This is a worsening problem !
On matchdays the 7 is re-routed between Witton Island and College Road via Aston Lane, Wellhead Lane and Aldridge Road, sometimes the diversion starts at Six Ways Aston going via Birchfield Road and Perry Barr.
Even though this is unavoidable and in most cases not the fault of NX, it does cause problems for passengers who are not going to/from Villa Park, worse still is that when matches are played on weeknights the 7 is on the same running boards as the 65 and 67 so if the 7 is late and in most cases it is, sometimes very late, the 65 and 67 will be late as well.
In some cases a 7 will actually go on it's normal route.

I would suggest that the diverted buses should be numbered 7A, therefore passengers will then know whether there bus is going through Witton/Brookvale/The Ridgeway or not.

The main part of this problem needs to be dealt with by the City Council (god help us!) and Villa Park to stop cars parking on both sides of Brookvale Road which is biggest problem.
This can't go on !

I don't know about the 7.
But I believe when BCFC were playing on Tuesday the 60 did have somthing like football diversion on the front blinds.

Not sure if it still occurs but when Wolves are at home service 3 & 4 have diverted via Stafford Street. Does this still happen?

Surely the scheduling aspect where the 7 is on the same running board as the 65/67 is the fault of NX?

The problem isn't the diversion, but there dosen't seem to be any consistancy. Tonight (Saturday 15th February) our bus went via the diversion and the bus behind went via the normal route and got to College Road before us!

It's not just the 7, the 11A/C does sometimes have to divert as well when Aston Villa play at home.

But then again, for several years now, the 74, 17 and 60 are regularly diverted whenever West Brom or Birmingham City play at home.

While it is great that these football clubs do provide some shuttle services for fans attending these games, it is almost self-defeating when public bus services have to be diverted AWAY from these football grounds due to traffic congestion on surrounding roads.

My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Yes NX say due to large amounts of People they divert them.
Someone mentioned the 74 Didn't NX decide to have 74's parked down the road from the Albion Ground when the Metro was down so they could send a bus up, also not sure how long the diversion has existed, but my dad remembers the Birmingham Road only had 1 or 2 lanes closed usually the outer two of both directions so Buses and Cars could use the inside lanes to get up the Birmingham Road they usually stopped the closure just before the J1 Island so the Fans all had to walk on the pavement and the cars could then filter out, also briefly he remembers Halfords Lane being open, this around the early to mid 90's and possibly into the 2000's as then worked across the road from the Ground and remembers fans being able to access his Work Car Park blocking in his Works Veichles, that was opposite the ground in between the Bakery and the Old Thandi Depot, I now believe they close the inside Lane of the Brummie Road off in both directions, if not one way then they close the whole road, My dad remembers this happening as if he didn't get the Tram he lived in Moxley he could jump on either the 78 or 79 to get back home, if he didn't decide to stop of in town

Yes, as Waterloo Road is closed by semi-permanent barriers from Newhampton Road to Sir Jack Hayward Way - services are then diverted (unsure which direction). The diversions are normally in place 90 minutes either side of kick off times.

To add to this, I am so glad the 97/97A have finally got a regular football diverson when blues are at home.
