B6s were absolute beast. Some people may differ, but 7164 ( R164 RSN ) was the best.
I also liked the Excels, 7211 the best. But of course that was back when the "better" Dundee routes existed.

I always loved B6s and still do. I had a ride on 680 earlier, every time the driver used kickdown it went like excrement off a shovel, so to speak. Great bus.

B6s do not have kickdown

This one did!

Kick down is where a driver can push the pedal just past the normal maximum and the bus will change down as long as it does not mean the engine over-revving. It is not fitted to B6s

Yeah, I know exactly what it is, this one really felt like it had it, but you know best!

I think your driver Matt just timed the gear changes correctly so the auto box dropped down

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

Bob

Anyone remember the kick the metrobus gearbox used to have when going into top gear, even more so when not accelerating eg going downhill?  More noticeable on mk1 & earlier mk2

Love it! I remember when 2811 was on the 49 of a late evening many years ago, when the driver used to spin it around on Callowbrook Bridge feathering the throttle, the gearbox didn't know what to do, even from 1st to 2nd it was shaking the body like mad. Good times!
