Silly question, but presumably Coventry have enough fleet capacity for this? Currently bustimes shows around 10 vehicles on the road at the moment.

Was this always factored into the electrics order, or will the cascade of SDs slow to free up more DDs for this route? I guess that this is also one of the highest mileage routes an electric would cover in one day, so be interesting to see range limitations (if any) here.

Quote from: Steve3229vp on September 16, 2023, 04:54:13 PMWell if that's the case why have they been ordered ?
I suspect if you look hard enough you'll find a similar reason to why BCC are essentially going bust.

Because the idea is nice, but the reality hasn't actually been thought through properly by anyone (or at least hasn't in the past.... Maybe this time will be different)

Quote from: Steve3229vp on September 16, 2023, 03:40:26 PMVery easy to make a silly comment like that. If what you stated was likely to happen then why would an order for Hydrogen buses be placed ?

To be fair to the quoted poster, BCC still spent however many millions on the current hydrogens despite the infrastructure being miles off and an EIS being virtually doomed from the start.

It's not at all a silly comment at all when those pushing the buttons in govt (local and national) are aimlessly spending taxpayer cash to hit environmental targets and have something they can claim credit for. The electric rollout in Coventry has worked seemingly wonderfully, hydrogen evidently isn't quite there yet, and to be fair might not be by the time this next batch arrive.

I was wondering what the current NX position is on route branding across its wider network, but specifically in Coventry.

With a new, totally unified fleet, the advantage of not needing to allocate buses for specific routes (based the lack of route branding) must be quite noticeable. And, with basically the entire fleet set to be identical BYD DD's, I guess this simplification advantage stretches even further.

Have route branding exercises in the past helped to noticeably increase passenger numbers/accessibility, and if so can we expect this to return to Coventry in future?

Great news. Do we have any indication on when the infrastructure, in terms of depot charging facilities for the 100+ buses, might be ready? I suppose NXWM are eagerly awaiting some of the cascades from CV.

Quote from: Tony on December 08, 2022, 11:56:45 AMIt is looking like the 10 original, plus the 47 new ones already there, the delay isn't the buses, but the charging points being fitted and working, along with the handover of Cox Street Car Park. There's 4 still at BC and another 39 built, inspected and stored at Bruntingthorpe airfield, ready to be delivered as soon as NX request them
Wow... ADL certainly not messing about by the sounds of things in terms of speed of production. Seems a shame to have so many great new buses essentially parked up, but I suppose the whole point of the electric bus city project from central government is to figure out all of these teething problems. Lot's of retirements and cascades when those all eventually filter in.

Agreed. I won't get too ahead of myself as ADL seem to be the statistical likelihood at NX for DDs, and Wrightbus for SDs, but who knows! Would look super stealthy in the new livery too.

I should add, whoever designed the temporary vinyl livery for the loan unit deserves plaudits. Looks fantastic for a temporary job! Really nice design to pop on it.

Quote from: Tony on November 20, 2022, 10:25:26 AMDon't know whether it will last all day, but at the moment Coventry don't have a single diesel double deck on the road. All duties are being operated by Electrics or B7RLEs

Driving around Coventry this morning and only seeing electric buses was quite the spectacle! I guess this will only become a more common thing to see as time progresses

Quote from: paulb1973 on September 25, 2022, 11:01:45 AMI took a few pics of E064 and E053 standing by the Ford St car park yesterday, there was another present with a '2' in its fleet number - E042 then.

Have you got a link to these photos please?

Quote from: Tony on September 18, 2022, 05:43:15 PME063 is out again this evening, doesn't look like E034 is coming out today

Where are these at with decals? Are they all going to have the Platinum extra legroom text add-ons or any route branding applied?

Additionally, how is the rollout of mirror cams looking for those that were delivered with the standard mirrors? Thanks

Quote from: BNH2004 on July 22, 2022, 06:03:23 PM6958 has now been debranded from the University routes and rebranded with NXWM generic platinum branding ready  to be transferred to the West Midlands fleet
Does this perhaps indicate the University routes may become some of the first to go electric? Interesting if true given the length of the routes...

Quote from: Tony on June 24, 2022, 07:13:06 PMThey have not been transferred into Coventry garage and won't for some time as there's quite a bit of stuff to do on them first. Not sure where you got that information from.
Here is E034  NXWM E034 (wmbusphotos.com)
Surprised to see these with regular mirrors, rather than the mirror cams on the other Electrics and Hydrogen buses. Is this a cost measure or to do with the tech not quite being there yet?
