I seem to recall Acocks Greens B10L and B6LE both having destinations on the bottom before they left (although it was one blind rather than 2, they just printed the destinations underneath the via points).

Those blinds, for example on the 37 would say

Birmingham

Via points

Solihull station.

A 37 to Solihull would be in such a way that Birmingham is hidden. On the way backtheyd do it up a bit so Solihull is hidden and Birmingham showing.

That is not correct. The blinds were printed properly with via points above the final destinations in both directions

It is 'officially' ex BYX 108V a London Transport Mark 1 (hence new 1/10/79 on DVLA). The company who own it, Bus Business have been known to swop registration plate between vehicles before as most of the front is definately not BYX 108V.

Id be surprised if Diamond went into Cannock, as its a bit far from Smethwick.

The closest they get is Brownhills West & Bloxwich.

Didnt they operate extra 404s to position Walsall area vehicles?

If they have still got a decent price for the tender, dead mileage could well be accounted for.

Although it may seem a waste of resources, the cost of dead mileage obviously can't be that high, as for example at NXWM Walsall Garage several 40s & 39s commence in Wolverhampton, 10s run empty to Burntwood/Brownhills and some 51s & X51s run dead to Perry Barr or Birmingham.

In a coach sense, some National Express diagrams drive empty between Milton Keynes and Rugby, and DeCourcey vehicles drive empty to Coventry/Stratford to commence service.

The biggest issue Diamond would face though (and to an extent NXWM) is not so much the dead mileage of the vehicle, but the additional time taken for crew reliefs and travelling time for the driver at the end of shift (when it is half way through the day). This could prove quite costly and awkward (for instance if an extra car/van was required and getting necessary parking for the change to take place.  That said Blue Diamond operate several routes in the Solihull & Coventry areas and seem to be managing!   

I am just going off to drive the 22:15 A1 from Luton Airport to London Victoria, returning empty, just over 35 miles dead. Driver on the 22:45 also does the same

Some Staffordshire tendered Cannock operated routes have just been renewed and the winning operators should be announced soon. If rumours are true Arriva may no longer have a monopoly in Cannock. Unless of course Arriva suddenly decided they can now oeprated them commercially

According to the uk buses fleetlists 30038 (G762 XRE) , 1989 Leyland Olympian is withdrawn.  I cant say if this is the start of the curtain falling for the other four G-XREs.

30038 went to a private company for engine replacement, while parked there it was heavily vandalised. It is still not officially withdrawn. It will presumably depend on the engine company's insurance whether it gets repaired

One thing BC are very strict on is no-one drives their buses unless they have received and signed for both route training and type training on their vehicles. So no, nobody from Pensnett would suddenly turn up and be driving the 900

heard of a pe driver today, one of the possible reason for withdrawing the 289 to old hill is due to nx wanting rid of the tender when it goes up in two years, apparently withdrawing it to oldhill will make it look like its loosing even more money so they are able to chuck it back to centro.... any one heard anything else like this?

You cannot 'chuck' anything back to Centro easily

Not that I can tell. I know Andyr, where he works etc. Andy info appears to be completely different, certainly not posting from the same IP
