If you read the article, it says that the buses are safe to use, but the HVAC system should be turned off when the vehicle is not in use as a precaution, until a permanent solution can be applied.

It is typical of the Daily Mail though to 'over-egg' the seriousness of this.

In short: a potential issue with the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) system has been identified which could cause a fire risk.

Nothing to do with the battery or electric drivetrain.

Lets hope there are no more of this.

What are trying to achieve with this ?
There have been other comments (most of them irrelevant about this subject and unsubstantiated) about electric buses on this forum, please think again and do some research before you post things like this.

Wouldn't it make sense to have them at a closer garage like AG or BC because of tyseley?

I'm afraid that your comment is untrue Stu.

I would point you in the direction of the press release issued on behalf of Waseem Zaffar in 2021 when these vehicles were first used, where a breakdown of the funding was given.
The buses were paid for by a combination of....  OLEV funding, the GBSLEP,  FCH JU (a European Union project) funding and the rest made up by Birmingham City Council themselves.
Last time I checked it was indeed taxpayers who gave BCC their spending money, where they choose to waste it is out of ours hands sadly.
You will also find reference in recent newspaper articles on the council going bankrupt that they have to date spent £50million on both the Hydrogen Bus project and Cycle lanes combined although the exact amount spent on each isn't disclosed.
Why would buses funded wholly by the UK government carry EU flags?
The only money that came from the UK government was the OLEV funding. If the government paid in full for buses, especially such high cost zero emission buses, every operator and authority would be at their door with a begging bowl and the country would be bankrupt within a year!

So please do forgive people for showing an interest in these buses, especially those of us who are now looking at fortnightly bin collections!

This has nothing to do with Council Tax Payers

The clue to when they can be fueled is you'll see them in service.

Exactly, that's my point, there is no news, we all want to see the Hydrogens and Electrics in service but we're all going to have to wait !

Are we seriously going this road again, it's been documented on this forum many times about the Hydrogen situation, yes it's frustrating but not as frustrating as it is for NX. This will be sorted in time, we are all going to have to be patient

Nice to see 2104 on loan, mainly used on the FD service and also a short stint on the 28. I hope PB gets some if these in the future to replace those horrible Scanias

What part you don't understand that these routes can't be Decker operated I don't understand.

Whenever I have been at Bradford Place, WA buses run dead via Caldmore Road, Upper Hall Lane and Dudley Street. Also the B7RLEs can't go under the Bridgeman Street bridge either (as they're never on 39) but they're at Bradford Place every day.... are they meant to run dead down Bridgeman Street?

B7RLE's have been on the 39:
9/02/24 - 2133 was on there on the 1039 and 1209 Walsall - Stowlawn and 1124 Stowlawn - Walsall

A YW told me back in November that the routes going Electric are going to be 2, 3 and 18, I asked him about the 50 and he said that "the 50 was too intense to full time Electric".
I took all this with a pinch of salt, or maybe a bowl full !

Couldn't a swap round be done with Pensnett, Wolverhampton and Walsall (eg 529 to Walsall), a route from WB to Pensnett and Pensnett to WN? Yes, agree re the diversion to avoid the bridge at Sandwell and Dudley Parkway.

The only way could be WA continuing running the 4 to West Bromwich only. PN and WB using double deckers to run 4M (using a different route number) PN from West Brom to Merry Hill with WB running shorts West Brom to Blackheath.
The biggest problem with this is it would be very unpopular with passengers.

If you mean because of Bridgeman Street bridge, buses could use Pleck Road and The Broadway or direct in towards Bradford Place from Pleck Road. In any case, even if the Scanias at Walsall were replaced by B7RLEs can those get under the bridge? And any electric single decker would be hard pressed so the route to/from depot issue surely has to be dealt with in the near future. Could the route swap to WB anyway as part of a switch around of routes?

Your looking at approximately 16 buses used on 4/4E/4M. I can't think of a route at WB using that amount of buses which would we able to run from WA.

The diversion currently on the 4 service seems to be good and no one complaining about it. I wonder if this could be made permanent route to enable deckers to run the route again. And just so Sandwell and Dudley station has a bus run the 3 or 3A down and send the 3 down the same way as 4s.

You haven't thought this through have you:
Where would you get the double deckers from ? With single deckers already appearing on double decker routes in Birmingham, especially YW services 2 and 3, also frequently appearing on PB services 7, 33, 65, 67 and 907. Which routes would have to lose it's double deckers to put on to the 4s ?

Yes exactly, it's amazing where some of these ideas come from, if it was as easy as that it would of been done long before now!

When is all this going to stop ?
Some of these newer members really need to think before they put things on this forum.
