Quote from: 2206 on June 18, 2022, 11:12:00 AMYW 3, 7 12, 16A, X12, 14 , 94 101, X2, X21 and 67 have new later 01:00 journeys. City Centre to Chelmsley only on the X12.

There is a 100 minute gap between the 23:20 and 01:00 journey on the X12 as well.

The final ex - Solihull X12 service currently terminates at Chelmsley, that is being extended to City Centre by the look of it and then back to Chelmsley. Could be CG related would be a useful link for evening workers - the last full service from NEC is currently 11pm which is early. Volunteers are being encouraged to use public transport, no parking being provided at venues.

The timetable also suggests the X12 is Acocks Green operated.

Potential HS2 works causing a diversion under a low bridge.

The X13 isn't very useful for shoppers - the first "major" supermarket served directly would be Morrisons in Coleshill.
The X12 isn't much better - serving Chelmsley Wood and adding the walk to Arden Hall is quite significant from some areas of Parkfield Estate.

The 96 served Chelmsley Wood as directly as the X12, without the walk. It also provided a near link to Sainsbury's Castle Vale.

I wondered whether the 53 could be re-routed from Hurst Lane North down to Parkfield and either doing a circuit or terminating at Park Hall School, given the Lanchester Way section was covered by the revised 96...I don't think it would be possible though without adding a vehicle or trimming the route somewhere else. At the time, the 53 served both major shopping centres in Castle Bromwich (Morrisons - Hurst Lane & Timberley Lane area) - the revised 93 no longer serves Timberley Lane.

But as others have said...if it was profitable then NX would have done it!

96 after Smiths Wood is serving Timberley Lane, Brownfield Road, Heathway, Brookmeadow Road, Buckland End and Heathland Avenue to Castle Bromwich then as normal to Warren Farm Road a complicated route via Kingstanding Road and Old Oscott

X12 and X13 both every 30 minutes on Saturdays (combined every 15 minutes)

That's quite a big cut in the Saturday service in the Green Lane, Arden Hall, Water Orton Road area, 5 services per hour down to 2. Castle Bromwich Old Village also has quite a big cut, albeit less due to X70 / X13

Not sure it would be much quicker. An off peak 11A is 4mins from Fox and Goose to Bromford. X12 is 14 mins from Bromford to City Centre...94 is 20 mins from Fox and Goose to City Centre.

Taking my suggestion of Bromford Road and Heathland Avenue (assuming 4 mins from Hunters Moon to Bromford and 4 mins from HeathWay shops to Hunters Moon), would save 7/8 mins on current timings.

Would a X55 running from City Centre as X12 / X70 to Bromford Lane, then Bromford Road to Hunters Moon, then Coleshill Road, Heathland Avenue to the 55 route. Would take some of the longer distance Shard End / Kingshurst <> City Centre passengers, freeing capacity nearing the city centre?

The 99 and nowadays the 53 provides a link to Heartlands Hospital - that may be why it is subsidised?

I think Smith's Wood is 'overserved'. I wonder whether every other 94 could run directly along Chester Road between Hurst Lane and Bacon's End Island - I imagine it would be a fair bit quicker. Under normal timetable that would give 4 buses per hour along Auckland Drive, 3 along Windward Way (X12) and 4 along Chester Road...+ The Claribels service.

I can't recall the route number, but the origin of the route was in a minibus route from Fox & Goose to Poolway. The child fare from Bromford Road to Fox and Goose was 8p - if that helps to age it. It ran a very convoluted route, originally via brockhurst road, Bromford road, collingbourne avenue, chipperfield road, Firs Estate, Heathway, middle Leaford and through to the Pool Way.

It wa extended at both ends through to Asda Small Heath, and the Wheatsheaf. I suppose parts of the route are now the 25, 53 & 58

The X12 city bound through Castle Brom around 7:45pm was missing, leaving a 90 min gap in service

For the Washwood Heath Road i'd like to see:

55 - as current route, every 10mins
93 - Birmingham to Chelmsley Wood via Kingshurst (as 94 to Morrison's, then Chester Road, Kingshurst Estate, Cooks Lane and Chelmsley Road), every 10 mins
94 - as current route, every 10 mins

I'd also add 70, Birmingham to Castle Bromwich Morrisons (as 94 to Drews Lane, then as X70 to Parkfield Estate, Water Orton Road, green Lane, hurst lane North to Morrisons) every 30 mins.

In turn I would accelerate X70 by operating along Bromford Road (currently unserved, between Bromford and Hunters Moon) and directly along Water Orton Road (avoiding Parkfield Estate) to Water Orton.

Have just read that Hurst Lane North is closed for the next 4 weeks. Does anyone know the diversion for the 94?

I'd assume either Green Lane, Water Orton Road and Hall Road OR Windward Way, Buckingham Road and Chester Road

In the late 80's the Birmingham - Saltley corridor was served by 8 routes, 4 continued along Alun Rock Road (14, 26, 55, 56) and 4 served Washwood Heath Road (90, 92, 93, 94), maybe the peak only 95 as well.

Today is is down to just 3 - 14, 55 (now Washwood Heath) and 94. There ha been plenty of tinkering with the 14 non city terminus but the 94 iis virtually unchanged.
