How come from 1560-1594 these buses are all S reg buses and then from 1595-1606 is goes back to R reg mercs then from 1607-1627 back to S reg. Was this down to when the buses were actually delivered and impacted on how they were registered.
The engines on the R reg series of mercs sound different to the ones that are in the S/T/V reg vehicles just wondered why that is, perhaps there nothing mechanically but the S/T/V reg mercs seem to accelerate more smoothly and less banging into gears not that im complaining as i think there great buses with lots of character

How many more years do we think the mercs are going to last?

I can see PE keeping them till the end, although at the moment i can't see what will replace them.

Well evidently it'll be Volvo B7RLE's surely? Prefer 0405N's but like the metros they don't last.

The Metros do last! If they hadn't been scrapped en masse, who knows how many would still be going today? The ones at Green Bus are a prime example. I doubt many of the Tridents will still be going so strong at age 25

The Metro's only lasted as long as they did due to the major rebuilds they had at Marshall's which included rear end strengthening etc
Rode on 1702 on the WB42 today, sounded like a tank, so noisy and rattling like a good one.

Ever seen a low floor one? I have, a few years ago. It was one of them student engineering aprentice group things, anyway, the task was to convert the Metro to low floor. I didn't think the engine turned over so thats why they used it as a practice thing. Anyway, it was quite a slope they had, and funky seating arrangements. It looked good though. I'm sure the thing has gone for scrap now anyway, and I had really no interest back in those days regarding fleet numbers and the like. I guess it would've cost too much to convert the whole NX fleet anyway. Not sure how they overcame the axle issue... wish I went into engineering.
