Title: The Risk Business - The Clash of The Titans [BBC, 1980]
Post by: Isle of Stroma on February 13, 2025, 10:16:42 PM
This has recently appeared on Youtube (I remember watching this as a teen when first screened back in 1980). 'The Risk Business - The Clash of The Titans', a brief BBC resume of the Double Deck market of the time. There's footage of Metrobus production and shots of Ailsas & Titan FHG592S carrying the WMPTE logo, & plenty else of interest to see - & listen to in hindsight - if you've not seen it before.

I clocked this myself on Youtube - a fascinating insight into a very different bus war. I thought there was an air of arrogance from British Leyland in the video who clearly underestimated the tenacity of MCW.

I can't help thinking that if the DMS had have been more of a success in London, then they may not have turned to an alternative in MCW, even with the supply issues of the Titan once produced.

I loved the attitude of the MCW general manager who was quietly optimistic, again, knowing he'd made inroads into London Tranasport and WMPTE, he genuinely believed in the product, and the rest, as they say, is history!
