The 7 started running from Perry Common to Portland Road via Witton and City Centre on 26th Sep 1927 (It was numbered 5 in the other direction to Perry Common)

In February 1971, service 6 from City to Sandon Road was extended to start from Perry Common, buses were numbered as follows:
5 Sandon Road/Portland Road to Perry Common
6 Perry Common to Sandon Road
7 Perry Common to Portland Road
In the mid 1970's buses showed 6 or 7 in both directions with 5 used for Perry Common to City only. Then not long after the use of 5 was replaced by 7E.
In December 1980 service 6 was withdrawn (replaced by 120/128/129)
In October 1986 service 7 was cut back to run Perry Common to City. Portland Road was replaced by 128/428
