Title: Cricket Shuttles
Post by: GeminiFan1991 on June 14, 2016, 01:34:21 PM
Do we know which garages will be contributing to the Cricket Shuttles ?!

I believe it will be the same as last year, so BC and AG, I'd imagine.

BC normally help to cover these

BC have exclusively covered the last three weeks' T20 matches. The other garages normally come on board on the more busier days ie one day international/five day test. During the Ashes last year even office staff from BY were driving buses!

I always thought it was a collection of garages just lending a spare vehicle in.

Office Staff  :D Im assuming drivers aren't obliged to take up duties on these shuttle type services ?

No you volunteer via a pink report. During the ashes it was so busy a couple of 'graduates' lent a hand driving.

Look out on Friday 24th  (I think) one day international maybe some loan buses on there. I know some of the lads that do it so I'll ask about if I see them.

I think the buses come from different garages if required but it's run by one garage, in this case BC. V Festival is run by AG (well the AG/YW General Manager) but the buses come from allover.

WN and WA run vehicles from their own depots with vehicles from other garages vehicles loaned too.

Yeah, because they're closer to the location. The event is run by general manager at AG.

I know they draft in drivers from all over as I know some Perry Barr drivers who did it last time. They were based out of WA for V Festival.

Could be anything from any garage. Big match these next five days. Maybe 17 buses. They will be parked strategically around Town. But will all pass SBQ! More buses maybe added for the evening return journeys...

I noticed a cricket shuttle numbered 501, presume reference to Brian Lara's 501 at edgbaston many moons ago.

I think I might have assumed it was 4802 at a glance in that case. I probably saw it more than once without realising.

Does anyone know if the 501 actually make any stops en route? Probably a question for the Cricket Shuttle thread. ???
Not as far as I know @CL. I'm 99% sure that the buses run direct from the Ringway into the cricket ground's private car park.

To quote myself from the Photo Links thread; surely if that's the case, then 'direct shuttle', or 'non-stop' would've been a better choice of words ???

I recall the 701 shuttle for Bus Bash, back in 2017, displayed 'non-stop'.

But why would anyone get on the cricket shuttle to get off halfway?

Precisely what I was thinking! 😂 I tried to rationalise it by thinking it could be locals who'd want to board along the route, but surely they'd know to use the 45/47, instead...

Having said that, I don't even know if the 501 follows a single route! Most, that I saw, came from Bristol Road - accessing the Cricket Ground, via Priory Road - however, I think it may have been 4367(?) which I saw arrive from down the Pershore Road.

There was a chap on the Ringway yesterday who was adamant that the 501 ran all day as he reckoned he'd read this on the website. This was approx 1150, 10 mins before the match started (after a delay - the booked start time was 1030) I think he might have missed the first few overs!

Why does it need anything extra on the display?  Inspectors board passengers and if it is not on the bus stop then it doesn't  stop

And 61/63 which only need a short walk from Bristol Road down Sir Harry's Road to the entrance.  You also find that traffic flows better on Bristol Road than on Pershore Road.

It is planned for every garage except YW to be helping out.

First two buses I have seen marked to be used for this test match are
