Title: 94 Garage Change ??
Post by: monkeyjoe on June 18, 2012, 03:55:32 PM
I was just reading about the Brum changes 22nd. I noticed that it said on the 94 route that ex garage journeys (Sundays) would be starting from Saltley instead of Fox & Goose.

Does this mean that another garage i.e not Perry Barr might be taking over this route??

I would not think so, as what garage has the space to take the 94 unless there are going to be route swops.

I would think that it is due to passengers requesting that it starts in Saltley rather in Ward End more though. It is not hard for Perry Barr Buses to reach Saltley with the overpasses on the Birchfield Road.

Or possibly to do with BY & PB being ran together and BY might be operating on Sundays or gaining some boards?

I think this sounds the more plausibe, i'm not for one minute suggesting that NXWM would not listen to their passengers, but why only Sunday morn's ??......... anyway.

We will see. I really must get on with some work now. ;D

All it means is that the first journeys that normally start from the Fox & Goose (Ward End) will start from Saltley instead. It doesn't mean the route is changing garage.  :D

On a side note, I notice that the 120 is being rerouted to terminate on Colmore Row, yet when I checked the map on the Connected City website (before they took it off), the plan was the 120 would follow the same new route as the 127 & 128 and terminate at the Markets. I thought the whole idea of rearranging the routes was that services that served similar locations would all be grouped together? The 120, 127 & 128 all currently stop at the same stop on Corporation Street ('Buses for Warley'), and barring some minor deviations, are all used by people to get to Five Ways and Bearwood.

It was always, and still is, the 126 that is going around to the markets, so that a regular 5 min frequency is operated from Five Ways to the markets

I'm aware of that cheers, i guess i was just questioning why only on Sunday mornings, just seems a bit odd to me.  I had too much time on my hands earlier.

Ive just read the list of changes and to be honest, its nothing but service cuts in most cases

I'm assuming that most of the service cuts are just for the summer hoilday period, it doesn't make that clear in the write up's though.

I'm guessing the total PVR will reduced by September though just because of the reduced mileage required to get in and out of the City Centre.

Plus I noted that there are a few peak frequency reductions

This dont make no sense, In the Summer wont you need more buses, to cater for all the people that are out of work & school

No...

You don't wake up in the morning peak to catch a bus.

You don't do the same in the afternoon peak.

That really is a bit of a silly point to make, why do the majority of people in the West Midlands, Great Britain and world catch a bus?

Either to get to work and school is the answer, and with the schools obviously closed and people scheduling their holiday to fit in with school holidays then demand for buses drops incredibly.

All you have to do is take one look at Stourbridge at the moment, out of the three colleges, the Year 13's or A2 level students have now left meaning that the colleges are around half empty, this means that routes like the 246 at the moment are just about manageable and come the summer will be fairly empty meaning the PVR can be reduced, this pattern is the same across all the network.

Actually answering my own question the distance between Perry Barr and Saltley is less than the distance between Perry Barr and Fox & Goose, so I guess the answer is "No".

On another note of course their is less demand in the summer months, in the same way you have reduced traffic on the roads during summer peaks hour periods.

The 9 performs well in the summer with a reduction of 4 peak cards but in the term time it carries more students to halesowen and stourbridge than it does into city for an hour in am and pm
