re. 11 branded Gemini's
It seems like 4672/9 are keeping their names given to them before branding (Graham Green/Steve Widdows) rather than getting a girls name. 4672 had when I saw it last week anyway
@P419 EJWI have found out that
5419 is Penny
5420 is Ruby
so it looks like we only need 5416 and 5418

Personally, I love this. To me this is why buses should be named, something genuinely personal instead of driver's children's names. No offence to said drivers but this example actually means something

That's true I agree as I have seen a few buses with name plaques for different people but didn't realise some of the names had such heartfelt meanings to them like with Iris or people like Ronnie Morgan for instance who a lot of people have had the pleasure. For all the names that mean a lot it is great that NXWM are allowing them to name their buses after them

2001-2010 have been named for a long time
According to flickr xplore dundee 4717 is called Christopher
6802 is named 'Laura Emily', the same as 4917. So it looks like the names of the current Sutton buses are been transferred over to the MMCs, suggesting they are transferring away
When are 3302/3/4/5 being named
More to the point, why must all WM buses have to be given girls names, I wrote to NE suggesting a name for a bus and was told no because it was a mans name.
If it's true that one of Dundees 47xx has the name Christopher, why can't NE follow suit?
I think it's to do that crafts/ vehicles/ vessels and so on are often referred to be being female. Like the mothership and people refer to their cars as a she.
I can see the argument for male names as it's mostly males driving them but then again drivers who have buses named after their daughters/ wives would testify against it. Tricky 1

I understand your point, but when all of this naming started, wasn't it some PN buses that were named after Dave Healey, Duncan Edwards etc, but after a few WN ones were done, they changed the policy to girls names. Am sure that drivers would also like buses named after there sons, and for female drivers after there husbands and as we are in 2016, gay drivers have a bus named after there partner. To me it's only fair!

I'm not familiar with how the naming system started off but my personal viewpoint is that if buses have to be named, they should be named after long serving employees be it male or female.
I'd quite like Tony to have a bus named after him for all his hard work for the company heck I'd even work NX just to have a Gemini named after me !

Are the Platinum buses at Acocks Green, and 4928-39 at Central going to get new names or the old names removed, as the names are duplicated on the newer buses?
Do female drivers get buses named after them or is it the same naming system as the males as in buses are named after loved ones ?
2091 has now been named after the late Paul Cockin, a Pensnett driver who sadly passed away.
1795 is now named 'Alan Spofford'

not as up-to-date, but for the most part it'll show you the name; albeit by alphabetical order, which I find the least practical, as an enthusiast at least.

6945 would have been on the X2 (Birmingham to Solihull - The more Direct route). As that's the route BC operate into Solihull.
The X12 takes a longer less direct route via Airport, Chelmsley, Castle Bromwich and Bromford route to Birmingham City Centre. Its operated by AG, so 6945 wouldn't have been on there.
4503 is named Sadie (not seen it mentioned yet).

My niece's name. Just took a pic of it today to share it with her. Only 6 years old, She was quite happy but would've liked it on the pink branding as it her favourite colour. Got lucky to have her name picked.

Not sure how to describe this. 1914 has now been named Grace Christine (thats the name on the front now) but it still has its old name Grace Isobel on the back. I thought I was seeing things when I first saw it, then after seeing the bus again in Solihull, I found I wasn't. Got photos to prove it.

About time to, I sent them an email last year saying a bus should be named after Tony for everything he does for the bus enthusiast community and they came back with the limp excuse, they were only naming buses with girls names. Thank goodness they have come to there senses.
Only girls names? I've already seen a few buses named after men, but all are dedications painted on the sides, usually as golden handshakes, or memoriams. I have seen ones for enthusiasts too.

So, will there be another bus for Steve Widdows? Often saw 4679 on the 11 (live on the route).
It's a shame, from the photo I saw on Facebook, there's an advertising frame & advert on 4679!
Surely there's enough buses in the fleet, to allow the heritage fleet to shine in it's full glory?
I agree wish all the heritage Vechiles was Advert free.
The metrobuses was back in 1996.
I remember 3000 gaining Advert frames towards the end of heritage buses around 2002.
All was slowly repainted into fleet livery. I think 2989 was the last one until 2004.

Evening, im not sure if many of you will know but an ex yw driver who moved down south to take up freelance coaching was involved in a RTC on Saturday (14/09/19). Dave Baker was out riding his bike when a 4x4/jeep came round the corner on the wrong side of the road and hit him and he died instantly in Sussex. Maybe in his memory YW could have one of the new platinum's named after him. Although I think the next new batch are due in the new year for the 6.

@darthdc meant no real harm.
On a footnote, the name Ires comes from the Ancient Greek for rainbow and Ines is believed to be a Latin derived name for Agnes (thanks to Google!)

Don't bother with crimson repaints as those are easy to identify and replacements have already been ordered. It is ones that have just got taken off at RTC repairs or the like we need to know.
There will be some additional names applied at the same time on WA B7RLEs and Scanias, and a few other random buses as well.
I've noticed the nxbus website is very outdated for this sort of stuff. Will it ever be updated or removed?

pretty pedantic way of thinking when for the most part the names were just for fun
But Trains aren't named Jessica Grace there either named after a City so City Of Birmingham which the operator serves, A Railway person who has given service for so long, someone killed in an accident, Charity ie Steven Sutton or something to do with the Railway. Buses should be named after maybe local people or legends for that area. So a West Brom bus should be named after Cyrllie Regis or one of the Three Degrees or Jeff Astle. You could also name after a long serving or former Member of staff or a local charity so for example the Albion Foundation or Good Sheppard in Wolverhampton or maybe Birmingham Children's Hospital. A link to the local area NX Serve. Names like Jessica Grace might be picked by say a driver called Steve who only drives that bus maybe once every few months but most drivers won't care. It works for Trucks as usually the Driver has to drive that same Truck for a few days and if it is named after his family he might be reminded of them. Buses Don't work like that

West Midlands metro have a metro branded up for Cyrille Regis, tram 31. I think it's nice they did that. Although because it's a old tram it's not out very often as they use the newer trams I would assume when the extension has opened to Dudley they will use them more.

Yeah I know they do but that's what I'm thinking for NX Buses named after local landmarks so in West Bromwich you could have Oak House, Sandwell Valley or local famous people, or legends, Tony Bomber Brown, Jeff Astle so on for the Baggies, Betty Boothroyd for MP's or so on Frank Skinner for Comedians. Walsall could have one named after Noddy Holder or The Abarotruem

i dont know if this is true or not but i remember reading somewhere that the buses are named after female relatives of the employees. dont quote me on that though https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1088838771367219243/1239683460537389108/image.png?ex=6643d0b1&is=66427f31&hm=e2fe26444c111d17b5fc932827d076fbebba1bef6344c45b81ce89357ad7cd04&=&format=webp&quality=lossless
NX E199 is going to be named Linda McCord
Quote from: Jay71 on June 12, 2024, 06:38:15 PMNX E199 is going to be named Linda McCord
No. It is named Linda McCord, presumably you have either just seen my photo on Facebook of it named, or seen on Bustimes where you will notice it is in service and listed with the name.
When a bus is named and subsequently withdrawn down the line, will the name transfer to a different vehicle, or is that it finished. Did 1834 get 4601's name? I can't remember.
I guess this would be thought of by a few on here in the coming weeks when one in particular is definitely going. Also for your own bus Tony. You've had the honour given to you, but the geminis probably haven't got all that long left themselves.

I believe 4653s name was transferred down from another Gemini that was transferred to Coventry

1834 did indeed inherit 4601's name. As did 4780 when 4781 was withdrawn. Another instance - albeit not a withdrawal - was 6832 gaining the name off 4884.
I do think it varies by circumstance. Equally, there has been occasions where name plaques have not transferred onto other vehicles on withdrawal.
Unless my eyes were bugging, I think I saw a new UID PB electric with the namebadge of "Anthony Smith" in the distance.

It's E164 that is named Anthony Smith.

2144 is the new Doreen Evelyn to replace 2126 (One off for sentimental reasons for a valued staff member)

When a long term employee gets some joy out of seeing their dead mothers name in the garage is pointless?

very kind, it was 4573 20 years ago
Noticed that 6722 had the name "Dave Lawrence" on the side in memory of Dapper.
I wonder if an electric bus will get the name of "Mick Byrne"? Whose name was on the sides of 4812 before it's departure.
This is something I've asked before - I know that NX don't have a standard naming policy, though given they renamed 1837 after 4601's demise for the late great Mark Gauden, do NX automatically transfer the names when they're withdrawn?
I think when the buses were first given these special name plates, it was said they would last the lifetime of the bus, but there has been a couple of occasions where the life of a bus has been shorter than expected, so they've had the names transferred to other vehicles.

It was 1834 they renamed and repainted into Walsall Corporation colours to replace 4601
I wonder if 4500's name will be transferred? As for 4651, she's the second bus to be called Steve Widdows.
