Title: End of the T69s
Post by: Stevo on March 18, 2015, 06:36:33 PM
Only T69 out today was 08. The last day of operation of these must be soon. Is there going to be any celebration?

According to the Express & Star, the line to Wolverhampton St Georges should open at the end of the month and, when that happens, the T69's will be withdrawn.

Are they still being mothballed in case of a future extension to the Merry Hill Centre via Dudley?

Going to miss the T69s - prefer them to the new trams. Love the heating on them and seats are much better, and I like the platform at either end of the trams. The CAFs aren't that well built if you ask me - ride quality is poor at times and make as much noise as the T69s. Minor rattling coming from various panels and squeaking rubber gangways.

06/08-10 were out today. 10 terminated at Wednesbury Parkway about 1330 and went into the depot so if it is the last day of T69s I was 10's last passenger! But the conductor said they'd go on for some time yet. Just in case I went on 06/08/10.

Greetings.

The end of the T69s  were meant to end  way back back ,but have been put off a few times now .
the day after the opening of st Georges was one such day but did not happen.
Now the plan is the end of this month (may)  but still doubt full ?  because of on going Urbos 3 issues.

The remaining T69s now available for service are ( 06-08-10-16 )   on a good day all four can be out  or on a bad day just one ( like today ) over  the last three weeks there have been mainly three out in daily service ,  10  was out today but was taken off service around 14.00 hrs due to problems with the public PA system and was substituted  with 08 , thankfully another full Urbos 3 service did not happen.

T69  -04 which was withdrawn because of Tyre wear ( a common problem ) has now been made into a weed killing tram  and can be used at slow speed on the metro line murdering weeds!

31st may (Sunday) will be the 16th year of Metro T69 service  ,lets hope that T69 -16 is out even though there is normally a full Urbos 3 service .

An Illustrated History of the Midland Metro T69 Trams book is now out .

I believe so has only 16 was to kept but will have to wait and see .

The end of T69 service has come and gone at least twice now ! it is only because of reliability issues
with the new Urbos 3 that they have been patched together to keep going until the very  end,
which this time was  going to be just 2 days time sat 30th,possible 31st  .
But again because there should have been a few more Urbos 3 in service by now the date is now pushed forward again.

Urbos 30 -33 were out on there final acceptance  tests today  and may be in service  tomorrow.    Metro will then  have fourteen Urbos 3 trams to cover for a Ten  tram service .

It now seems That the T69s are a rare thing to see  in day time service :-\

06 was out Monday and taken off for no reason other than to replace it with an Urbos3 to make a full urbos3 service .

Tuesday was also a full Urbos service ,has is today Wednesday.

It now seems the only chance to see a  T69s is the  one round Trip in the morning and evening at peak times ,although  they are there if the need arises has standby trams  .
( 06 was outside the depot today resting )

The last i saw of 16  was Friday 29-05-15   not seen it out working since ?

08, 10 and 16 all out today. I travelled on 23 to Wolverhampton this morning and it had to shut down for a rest at Priestfield. I don't know if it was overheating, but a tram from Spain should be able to cope with a bit of hot weather.

The last two remaining T69s have been very rare to see at all over the last two weeks.
Full daytime urbos3 has been the order of the day.

Both 10-16 have had there very last exam  .   they will be withdrawn very soon before the
End of the month.

Urbos 20 is now a spares donor so will not be seen for so time.

Urbos 17 is in the shed  and is being made fit to be out on the mainline soon. With help of Some spares taken  from 20 .

I think with most rail vehicles the first one is always the last to enter service and is also the one to stripped of parts if needed
also used has test bed not only out on the rail but at the depot for staff /drivers/conductors and especially  maintenance
staff to take items off and seeing how they go back on again!

17 has been out driver training in summer 2013  but soon went back in the depot has faults started to surface on other trams out.
software problems have been the main problem and 17 was used to constantly test and upgrade the software and while while in the depot a few parts were  taken from it  for other trams needing bits .

The depot does have many spares for the urbos 3 ,there are a crate of pantographs ,several new spare bogies  but to have two or three of every main item that a trams is made up off would take up a large amount of space (not forgetting the depot is still full of T69 spares ,there are a few  T69 bogies in the main depot shed  alone)
There was a spate of windows broken not long ago & 23 was involved in an incidence with a vehicle on the road section  which didnt do the front end to good , these sudden items that have to needed to keep trams working a drastic decision  sometimes means A tram , is used has a spares doner while parts are ordered from spain .

At the moment a  team bought over from spain is now putting 17 back to working order (although this will only be to run has  mileage accumulation)  not in passenger service yet  :o   Urbos3   35 is currently out testing.

T69-  10 Was out today till 11.50am then was replaced by Urbos 19 at wed/prk while running north bound.

Very Last Official day for T69 in private passenger service .

The last run will be Friday 14th , This will now be a private run with centro, mayor,
Midland metro top big wigs etc.

no planned last day of normal passenger service now, it has been abandoned.

Thus.  Between now and The end of this week is now the last time you see or be able to run on a T69 !
And the bad news is  10-16 are now only for emergency service use ,so seeing one one
Working is going to be that bit harder.

Another rubies is due to start this week, either 32 or 35.

Going to miss the T69s - much prefer the seating on them. Also prefer the ride quality - the CAFs just seem to ride very rough. Probably been asked many a time before but what will be happening to them? Will they just be scrapped or will they be kept for future use either in the West Mids or elsewhere?

T69  10  is having Issues though !

Yes 10 Was out all day yesterday but had a few problems.
Both 10 & 16 were out today  ,but 10 had to come off at Wednsebury prk way  at 11.50am,  while heading south.
10 went back  in to the depot.  Urbos 21 took its place and carried onwards - still leaving 16 out there.

Both now have only days left .

Just a reminder that  A T69 (i wont say which or why, so has not to spoil it )  will leave snow hill this Friday 14th for the very last time at 12 midday ,THIS will be a private party  so don't expect to get on it .

It will head north and come off at wed,prk way then head in to the depot ,the rest you will have to watch the local news to find out   :)

See one ,ride it ,photo it , It may be your last......

;)

Tram 11 is long gone. Its dead donated serviceable parts long time ago, all of the trams dead in yard have been robbed of parts to keep the few still working.

Tram 10 came off at 10.15am  this morning at wed-prk way while heading south.
10 went back to rest at far end of depot yard  ,tram  24 took its place and headed for brum.

Something different about 16 have you noticed  ;) if you have photo of it from last year
Compare to one taken now.

It's in the Express and Star link above - 11.10 Wolverhampton St Georges to Snow Hill on Friday 14 August and, to head off the next question, it'll be tram 16.

I did post a while back that the last depart was NOT for passengers .

Twitter list
last passenger service you can ride on,  from snowhill 10.30am  &  from wolvs is 11.10am   (which is the same Tram for both runs)

But the last tram from snowhill will not carry passengers, and that is now at 12.15pm

Post by: Tara4352 on August 13, 2015, 03:45:01 PM
I spoke to Andy and the last run is at 11:24 for Wensbury Great Western Stteet to Snow hill for public and Andy is the driver who will be the last person to drive it
Title: Re: End of the T69s
Post by: MetroT69 on August 13, 2015, 05:14:14 PM
That would mean he takes over there from the driver who brings it in from wolves (11.10 am off wolvs )     Arriv brum 11.45 am
BUT Metro list no 11.50am depart from snow hill on there twitter site ,they say the last public tram from snow hill is 10.30 am .

BUT the last tram out of snow hill is STILL either at 12.midday or 12.15 has they now list  on twitter !
This is only FOR  People who have been invited on it and it will only go to wed prk way ,then head into the depot invites still on board .

;)

So did you all notice that Tram 16 yesterday was in reverse position ,it had been turned on the loop last week so has all could travel on it and get photos of the tram in reverse .this is the only T69 to be in such direction .

16 Left snowhill for the last time at 12.16 & 23 seconds ran non stop to Wednsebury parkway  Hot on the heels of urbos 33 , there were a few times we were  just  50 ft away from it .  After a quick driver Change end , 16 ran around the loop and 16 entered the new extension building  and was parked next to urbos 32 ,power off  Traction motors blowers winding down has every one  disembarked .

Having been filming The T69s for the last  four and half years  i have amassed a huge amount  of filming with some  fantastic opportunity's  at times   ,Tram 11 before its change of colours  ,and its first run in blue and cream , failed trams , filming in all four seasons even two foot of snow!
the Severn trams ( 01-02-07-10-13-14-15 )  taken away by lorry to long marston ,the arrival of a few urbos 3s  by lorry, testing of urbos 3s and first driver trainings runs the list goes on .    I have Tried to get a DVD publisher to make a video,s of the metro But all say there is not enough interest  to warrant making  one or Two !     Videoscene  has taken the most interest , But its up to the enthusiasts to ask - when will there  be a DVD on the Midland metro  T69s  , maybe then  he may take notice .

Some samples  of urbos3 Driver training when new ,Tram 17 is one of them   .

Look at any photo of aT69. Note were the pantograph is( which end its at) then look at any photo of 16 taken since Monday -yesterday you will see tha it's the other end, so for the first time in 16s year life it was running a week in service wrong way around.  But it has now been been turned around back to its normal position again after going around the loop again  Did no one notice?  It was done on purpose  for the enthusiasts. ;D

Check out next weeks RAIL magazine issue 781 ,due to wednsday.

Title: Re: End of the T69s
Post by: MetroT69 on August 17, 2015, 08:59:16 AM
Yes there is new loop ,it's on the South end of the depot.  Nearly all of the Urbos 3 trams have gone around it now and have been turned around. Before the information map inside each tram was the wrong way around, brum was at the the wolves end and wolves was at the brum end ,comments from passengers telling contuctors that some one had put them on the wrong way.  But little did they now that the trams  would go around the loop and  they were then in the correct way.
Last time looked only 18-22-25-31 in service had not been turned.

There are four T69s down at the far end of the depot ,04-10-12-16      There are only three more to be taken away 04-10-12

10-16 Have had there pantographs all week ,probably recharging there batteries.

Has you may be aware , The T69s will probably be going to the Isle of Wight  ,If they do they will run on third rail (pantographs removed)

Name plates have been scattered far and wide ,  most were given to family's associated with the names  although i think only one plate not both . sir frank has gone to a local air force museum  again only one name plate ,  many are still at the depot in the store room they are the property of Centro NOT metro.

Hopefully there will some if not all on show at the open day in a few weeks time .  you may see tram 16 with his plates back on again
for the day .    Ive made a suggestion that it would be good to line up old 16 and new 17 & 37  to let folks get  photoS of all three
would make a once in a lifetime opportunity shot :D

Night time testing has been taking place in the early hours of late Mon/tues down to grand central  BUT

If you're re about in brum tomorrow Daytime  you may see the start of Driver training down to Birmingham Grand central .

;) ;)

I'll go down on Friday to see trams on the new stretch. I'd like to go to the open day too.
