On Saturday 28th February 2015, at 2359 hrs Rotala Plc completed the acquisition of the entire share capital of Green Triangle Buses Ltd.
Upon acquisition the current Directors will resign; Simon Dunn, Kim Taylor, Bob Dunn and Antony Goozee will be appointed Directors of the new acquisition. The legal entity name will be changed to Diamond Bus (North West Ltd) and over the medium term the intention is to rebrand the business.
The new acquisition will form part of the Rotala Plc North West Division. Consequently it will be supported by the Preston Bus business and Bob Dunn will become the Managing Director.
Rotala Plc sees this opportunity as an entrance route into the Greater Manchester market, and it leaves the group well positioned for future market developments and potential opportunities.
Although the acquisition does not represent a material transaction to Rotala, it will be notified to the London Stock Exchange before the market opens on Monday.
Nice to see diamond expanding into the north, good luck to them.
Wasn't Green Triangle part of D&G Group? Wonder if they'll sell next
Yes it was owned by D&G. The 2 E200s they use on the 877/8 were given by Ensign as sold to Green Triangle.
;
They have recently registered a route into Manchester , presumably on re-tender.
Fleetlist here, for anyone interested. The fleetlist currently shows 45 buses on fleet strength.
It's good to see Rotala making an acquisition, however, from the statement 'Although the acquisition does not represent a material transaction to Rotala' that suggests that little or no money has changed hands due to the business either being loss making or carrying a large amount of debt
Absoutely brilliant great to see Rotala expand and hopefully see the Diamond brand expand into the north west. I think it will be an excellent opportunity for expansion into the Manchester market!!
Seem to have a good fleet for me personally nice to see scanias and optare tempo's hopefully some of the tempos and wright bodied buses move to other parts of Rotala and maybe some darts send to SLT!!

There may be a bit more opportunity in NW Manchester to expand, but Rotala will be flanked by Stagecoach in Wigan & both Arriva & First in Bolton. Stagecoach Manchester have gobbled up quite a few Manchester independents of late. Jim Stones of Leigh might be a useful bolt-on acquisition to add to the newly acquired network of routes or if Rosso or Warrington BT were ever put up for sale.
Don't forget Rotala sold the ex Ludlows Scania/Wright Access-Ultralows & Solars

Rotala are either very brave or very foolish to go into that area, never a huge money spinner in the past.
Good luck to them, but they could ,if they make much progress, find themselves overwhelmed by Stagecoach or First the former particularly don't pussyfoot about if they ever feel threatened.
Suppose it all depends on what they paid (if anything) and how carefully they tread............still,best of luck Rotala.

Wonder no more, it is confirmed in the statement Tony originally posted:
The legal entity name will be changed to Diamond Bus (North West Ltd)
and over the medium term the intention is to rebrand the business. From Yahoo Groups:
Two ex D&G red liveried scanias have made the return journey from Crewe, 130 YN04GMV and 131 YN04GMX, these should see service today
Dave F--------------------------------------------------
Added to this is that the recent batch of E200s that SLT had for their 635 service were yesterday outputted on various services including Leigh Circulars and were back in depot for 18:30 and have now or are in the process of being transferred to D&G Crewe
Andrew
Looks as though at least two 64 plate SLT E200's have been swapped for 2 x 04 plate Scania Omnicities from D&G
And all 4 E200s are listed as added to the D&G fleet on their website

Really? Those still have the racking from airport work I believe... Not a fan of OmniCity's-dark, gloomy, bad quality interior with a pretty poor layout as well that lacks space vs a B7RLE.

Why Redditch, Preston already has WF variation we don't. And I'm sure Wessex would have first pickings for the same reason. Tho then again 30806 would have been better off staying at Redditch but that's another story.

Hardly likely to be going to Preston is it? It has only just been painted in Diamond livery.
I wonder if this might turn out to be a better deal for D&G/JP than Rotala. Surely one of the first actions of an elected mayor is going to be to eliminate the competition on Cross-Manchester services, giving both Stagecoach and First the resources to throw at other routes.

They wouldn't go in to Diamond, as Diamond don't operate Scania's.
That Scania/Wright does have history with the Dunn family, as it was purchased new for Dunn Line

Visited Wigan yesterday - must say I was incredibly unimpressed.
;
First seen was anonymous ex D&G Scania YN04GMY ( followed by Wigan Buses T439EDB), then when I got to the bus station
Streetlite 20981 was failed on the first stand and an SLT-liveried Solo pulled up behind it, seemingly to assist, blocking the entrance to the whole platform and buses that run down it to access the south facing stands!
;
Hardly seems to be the way to go about impressing any future quality contract regime with some vehicles carrying Diamond names, some South Lancs and some none at all.
anyone know when they will start to paint the fleet into diamond livery aslo what buses are used on what service

I was under the impression the next five due this month were doing to Tividale (3) & Kidderminster (2) for TfWM contracts, the final five weren't originally due until May or June IIRC - Plans must have changed.

I see, Thanks for sharing that picture. It makes sense sending the Scania's to Preston as they have other various scania vehicles. I guess we will also be seeing lots of swaps in preparation for the Bolton take-over!
Not that many moves, only approx. 25 buses going in to Bolton from within Rotala / acquired. The First Manchester fleet on hire will be replaced by new Euro 6 buses over a two year period.
ex Tividale Volvo's 30851/2/5 & 60 are already in DBNW two tone livery & up North.
Redditch Volvo 30857 (ex Monopoly livery) is in two tone livery and vinyled up for DBNW as well, this had gone back to Redditch initially.

So we know so far that of the approx. 25 buses, there will be 14 B7RLE's from Tividale/Redditch + 6 Streetlite's from Preston. Maybe Redditch's Signature Streetlite's (32307-10) will join Preston's StreetLites in the move to Bolton - this will make 24 in total.
First Bolton has an allocation of approx. 203 buses. However 28 are used on the Vantage network which is to be kept under First operation (presumably operation of this will be kept at Bolton - just ran by First)
From my calculations, this means DBNW will require 175 vehicles for operations at Bolton. With the 25 brought in from around the group - this means that they will have about 150 vehicles on hire from First.

Your numbers are a bit on the high side. The Bolton allocation on takeover day will be circa 160 buses. Bolton will loose both the Vantage allocation & the school bus allocation (contract expired)
125 buses are being hired from First Manchester (for up to two years)
Approx. 25 buses sourced from within Rotala which includes B9TL/Gemini 40625.
There's a possibility that 10 further used buses could be sourced externally, but not confirmed. So the 25 is still fluid at present.

Thank you for the correction on the numbers - I was going off an allocation from before First Bus sold Queens Road to GNW so the allocation has most probably changed since then or there were excess vehicles at Bolton which were then transferred to Queens Road/Go-Ahead NW.
I can imagine 40625 being the odd one out as I'm sure that Rotala will probably go for low emission StreetDecks to replace the First double decks considering they tend to go for StreetLite's which would match the trend.

The numbers quoted *shouldn't* change too much, but are not cast in stone. 40625 will be a bit of an odd ball, with 40626 remaining at Hallmark Connections.
Also, bare in mind DBNW Atherton depot is now been closed from the end of the August, with it's routes & allocation being split between Bolton & Eccles.
I understand a new bus order for Rotala Group may not now be too far off from being finalised / announced. As a side note, Preston Bus had a Wrightbus Streetdeck Micro hybrid demonstrator for a good few weeks which was used in service during March/April, so may well be correct.
The 10 x single deckers mentioned 'potentially' being acquired externally for DBNW, Bolton in the Kidderminster thread (posts since moved here) can now be confirmed as 10 x 64 plate ex Yourbus Citaro's. The first two, BD64NBX & NCC are already in DBNW two tone blue base colours, they are being repainted by Yourbus, at their Heanor depot (pictures below) - should look really smart once fully vinyled up.
Fleet numbers to be confirmed.

There's a few more Citaro's from elsewhere that have been for sale for sometime in the trade press. Not much demand for heavy weight full size singles. Even the 2013 WF & DF Streetlites Rotala returned off lease have remained unsold, same with the ex Yourbus ones at Plaxton Coach Sales.

Most city operators want either Euro6 or cheap. Expensive Euro 5 will be difficult to move at the moment. Vehicle type will also make a difference depending on whether the trap fitting companies have developed kit for that vehicle type yet. If you ask for conversions on a type they haven't you will get walloped with a big development cost as well

The shift to everything Euro 6 is going to kill demand in the used market for the foreseeable, even B7RLE / Eclipse 2's don't seem to be selling for quick, Xelabus have had two 60 plates for sale for a while.
I thought Euro 5 to Euro 6 upgrades were more straightforward / cheaper than Euro 3 to 6 etc?

Only connected as far as surnames & being brothers, not business connections with Rotala.
Scott Dunn still owns Yourbus, but he's lived in Australia for a good while & now has more Australian interests including building buses through Custom Coaches.

The new livery is leaps ahead of the previous all-over blue, it seems to suit most vehicles. Still fairly simple to apply, but effective.

The bus alliance is looking at every bus in the WM being Euro 6 in 2020. There's capacity problems getting kit because of so many places wanting it. NX alone are looking at 1000 upgrades in 12 months

I presume most of the bus builders should be at fully capacity for the foreseeable with long lead times now for new orders. Plus rarely any Euro 6 buses on the used market.

Can anyone explain why DBNW don't amend the VH1 and VH2 so that they can run a figure of 8 of Walkden and Boothstown on a 30 minute frequency (Each way so 15 mins combined). The current situation means the VH1 is basically just linking people into Boothstown to change buses and the VH2 links that housing development into Walkden. If the VH1 and VH2 were combined, they could link Boothstown and Walkden making more sense. You are almost guaranteed to get more passengers running the suggested way compared to the 2 very small circulars which look as if they run around empty all day.

They are run using S106 housing development funding, private contracts (I think) for Bellway Homes. The VH1 was specifically designed to link the development with the Busway, hence why it runs over to Mosley Common as passengers can transfer at Newearth Road.

Isn't this way off topic I am not aware West Midlands Travel Limited operate bus services in Bolton? I am the king of Diamond Bus fires and are very proud of the 3 I have been on they all ended up totally destroyed but went out in style well the style of Diamond Bus Limited thanks to Diamonds Bus excellent Health & Safety training we were all evacuated from the burning buses professionally by the driver. Thursdays B7 fire was good for the people of the North West to experience the excellent health and safety procedures Diamond Bus operate which we know so well in the West Midlands is second to none, the driver evacuated the bus excellently and should be congratulated for his actions. The over arching point here is a very simple one. None of us in the industry should poke fun or gloat at others' adversity, as we never know when our turn may come.

That would have been 2151 on NXC service 16 on 20/5/18 and 4401 on the same service on 7/11/17. Older Tridents 4203 were lost to fire too, on 17/10/18 and 4224 was damaged by fire on 1/8/17 and eventually sold for scrap. While four CV vehicles sounds bad, the period before, stretching back many years, saw hardly any serious fires at all (I can only think of the arson damage 4218 sustained back in 2001).

Nothing is as good as Diamond Bus fire I was with my partner at the Blackstone Picnic Area outside Bewdley on 15th June 2015 when the bus was NIS and exploded & at Callow Hill on 23rd May 2017 when the 292 was engulfed in a fireball.

Ta - don't do Twitter, forgot to check DBNW Facebook page.
Yes, should make a big difference + significantly increase carrying capacity.
There's 12 Streetdecks due during April, 50 in June, followed by 66 during December 2020.
There's also a WF Streetlite due in March which was part complete Wrightbus dealer stock (with another 2 due for Birmingham)
No probs Winston. Took me by surprise and had to read it twice!!

No, the 128 Streetdecks are all for Bolton. I assume they will replace older DBNW single deckers, the 13 plate Volvo B7RLE/Wright (575 branded) are due to return off lease as per Diamond WM examples in the not too distant future.
Preston are due 4 Streetdecks of their own in April, it was 8, but Volvo B5LH 40606-9 having since been purchased instead of returning off lease, 4 x Streetdecks destined for Preston were thus diverted to Bolton instead.
Cheers Winston. Great chance to standardise and remove some of the oddbods at Bolton. 👍

But at the cost of having a large proportion of vehicles of the same age in one place, and the potential issues that might bring. However I guess they have little choice. I'm curious how such a large order has been possible - I was wondering if it's some sort of leasing set up?

The Bolton Streetdeck order was effectively the 2019 & 2020 orders combined due to Wrightbus woes.
Rotala have their sights on getting bigger, therefore, there may be opportunities to split the concentration of a large batch of similar aged buses up in the future.
And a good price because customers are thin on the ground?

Diamond has sadly lost a number of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) contracts from 11 April, which were operated by Eccles depot.

Are there still TFWM tender contract changes as well in April this year still as well, like previous years? If so which routes are up for tender/affected this year?

I see that Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Manchester is railroading ahead with his Bus Franchising.
I sincerely, hope that this doesn't means the end of Diamond in the Manchester area.

Why would it?
Did not they move into the area because they saw franchising as an opportunity.
At the time I thought it was a bad idea as whatever the posturing First and Stagecoach would stitch up the tendering, but now First is much less of a force perhaps not?

Depot and Streetdecks will both be purchased by TfGM and leased to GoAhead
Quote from: Tony on December 16, 2022, 06:11:32 AMDepot and Streetdecks will both be purchased by TfGM and leased to GoAhead
TfGM will only be acquiring the existing depots at the most. But there are no contractural or legal obligations for operators to either sell their depots to TfGM or their vehicles to new the operator.
Operators will own their own fleets & it's up to the incumbent operator what if anything they want to sell.
Also Diamond have won some work according to the article and presumably will bid for work for the second and third group of services. It depends upon whether there's enough to make the depot sustainable.
Noticed 33019 is back in service. Doesn't sound too healthy though. Can hear it a mile off hoovering along.
Last year Diamond Bus North West supported a TV series called 'No Place Like Home', One of our vehicles was used to travel along our 471 route for part of the programme. The episode will air on Channel 5 on Wednesday 11th January at 9pm, if you would like to watch.
It has been revealed in the press that Diamond North West are to cease operating a number of commercial services later this spring ahead of the takeover of Bolton depot by Go North West. GfWM has said it will look at whether the services can be subsidised to keep them running until the new franchise starts in September. Diamond have stated its unlikely they will accept a subsidy.

TfGM don't control those services yet, they are still commercial, therefore, operators can still do what they see fit as regards services changes. There's nothing stopping TfGM replacing them with subsidised services, that said how easy it will be to find another operator to provide them for only 5 months is debatable.
Vision Bus are also withdrawing their 527.

Unless Go North West are prepared to take over those or some of the services early, I agree that it's not going to be easy.

TfGM will be subsidising all the routes to be withdrawn by both Diamond Bus North West & Vision Bus, no confirmation of who will be operating them yet though. The DBNW 163 will continue on a reduced 15min frequency, 21 will also continue by DBNW.https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/...r-26269668 (https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/seven-bus-services-greater-manchester-26269668)
Curiously the Vehicle Operator Licensing website states the other services proposed to be withdrawn has them still registered with Diamond Bus North West from 16th April 2023.
To be fair to Diamond and Vision, I can see why they have done it. If the commercial routes aren't making money anymore (whether that be actually making money or smart accounting so that they make no money), why keep sustaining a loss when in a few months time, the routes get kind of seized. You'll get no thanks, no bonus or reward, you take all the losses and then TFGM turn up and say 'Goodbye, enjoy your new home'.
How long would you as a business take a loss when you know that in a matter of months, you lose a major part of your business. If franchising wasn't a think, smart accounting, some lucrative tenders wins and maybe working with the govt schemes could bring the routes back to profitability but what is the point in doing any of that when in a few months, no matter if you put billions into the route or zero, you'll end up with the exact same result, nothing.

Didn't the driver realise the height of the bus & the bridge height must have a route that take dead to depot
Apparently the bridge was in a drivers handbook to avoid because its claimed a few doubles before last being a GNE B9TL
