Title: 949
Post by: monkeyjoe on October 27, 2014, 07:53:40 PM
I don't remember this service where did it go?? Or was it an error for the 979 on the bus stop.

A very short lived limited stop service if I recall correctly. Followed a similar or possibly the same route as the 49 from Frankley to Northfield then limited stop to city.

Thought so from the numbering but have no memory of that one at all, take it the 963 either stopped at a different stop or had been withdrawn.

I think the 963 might have gone by that time but my memory fails me. I have some strange recollection that the 949 might have been Saturday only or something bizarre like that (or maybe I'm losing my marbles).

Interestingly, there was an equally short lived 949 in the 1970s:

The 949 was a Saturday only Limited Stop service from Birmingham to Rubery, Great Park run by People's Express (the original People's Express before it was bought by Pete's Travel) using low floor Darts.

I wasn't aware it was a People's Express route. I never saw one in the flesh but thought I'd seen a TWM timetable for it but clearly not.

It was registered before pets travel takeover & kevin Jones ordered me to cancel it before it ever started (back when registration periods were 4 weeks). Therefore it only ever ran twice. It was a 2 bus working & the 2nd week Kevin only allocated one bus on the second week. So not surprised no one ever saw it or remembers it.
