I suspected that may have been the case with numerous members of the LH reserve fleet moving to Pensnett & a handful to Miller St.

It will be interesting to see where the rest of the contents of LH move to, as there are still must be a few B6LE & larger number of B10L still stored in LH. Pensentt can't really take many more without loosing the staff car park, so unless NX are planning a clear out of scrappers I wonder where they'll end up?

Problem is Winston, PE car park is rather full at the moment. they need to get some buses sold ASAP.

Why do they even keep so many? Surely they are just unused assets sat around depreciating and there must surely be a limit to how many spares they need? Especially when the number of vehicles of those types is going down? More could be stored in the west brom outstation just off the ringway though?

I presume you have never been past there between 1&4am? That yard is full to the gates.

Stu,

The reserve fleet parking area is pretty full, I was referring to the top part of that land where the staff park their cars. You could probably squeeze a few more buses in at a push at the opposite end nearest the trees / the boundary line of the main garage where the portacabins are?

WMT used to keep a large reserve fleet for strategic reasons and also rented some the reserve fleet to other operators.

It always useful to keep a reserve fleet in case of un-expected situation / opportunity should arise. In the main, I expect the vehicles on NXWM's books are worth more currently than the price they could be sold on for or scrap value. Hence they are stored depreciating to a value that it wouldn't have a negative impact of the accounts

Sorry, I haven't. I didn't realise it was so full so thanks for the info on that

That seems like a sensible reason: I understand the need to keep some vehicles in case of an un-expected situation however the number they have seems slightly unnecessary. Surely though Winston if some b6s/mercs have been sold of the same age as those in reserve their book value would be the same so they could be sold on like the ones before?

But that's the point. No B6LE or Mercs have been sold on further service with other operators, there was little or no interest in them at the auction at LH & when they were advertised for sale through Volant, therefore the only like future for them is coke cans...... I assume the book value is still higher than their scrap values hence why they are being stored.

Unfortunately for NX, they're stuck with vehicles that everyone else wants shot of i.e. Excel, B6LE's & TWM were the only operator to buy Merc 0405N's in any quantity in the UK, also spare parts are now harder to source & more expensive. Even B10L's weren't very popular with other operators even though they seem to be a good bus & have served the Midlands well & still continue to do so in smaller numbers after 17 years service.

does anybody know when all the buses left at LH will be moved out?

But if some P reg B6s were sold and some are currently withdrawn, presumably they would have the same book value. The former were sold for scrap and the latter are sat there with the same book value unsold, depreciating. In other words, they were able to sell b6s that had depreciated less, so I doubt that book value is preventing them being scrapped.

Refurbished vehicles have a higher book value than untouched ones

I've forgot..... the only NX B6LE's to be sold were the former Hotel Hoppa's P2--AAP & a handful of T-reg examples, they went mainly to McColl's, but these were un-refurbished / low mileage & airport spec

Maybe now they plough the investment back into East Brum routes. That seem to happen when Quinton closed down all the West Brum routes were upgraded, but can't see it happening for East Brum.

Thanks! Are there any other outstations NX have as I naively never knew about them having any?

Are you sure that's what you want, as WB hasn't been upgraded since....

It's not really an 'outstation' as such, more a storage yard.

Went past Lea Hall garage today. The garage itself is now empty and the new owners have started work on it. There were quite a lot of buses parked round the back.

I assume those buses will be moved elsewhere in the next couple of weeks, no idea where though as I don't think Miller St or Pensnett could take many more

When I was over last October I took a lot of detailed photos of the outside of Lea Hall, so glad I did. Hope the new owners don't do anything drastic to the building.

Does anyone know if the whole of the Lea Hall site was sold, or just the garage building? There are still many buses parked outside.
