Title: Wolverhampton B6LEs
Post by: Ashley 4569 on July 18, 2013, 11:17:12 PM
So what im gathering is that 554 555 and 581 have come to wolves and im wondering why, are the not so good ones being withdrawn or is it mercs for the chop?

Still find it odd that WN garage hasnt ever really had any B6s before but now has the lions share of whats left

Wouldn't surprise me if the likes of 632 were withdrawn.

Hope Wolverhampton look after my B6s :( still, I'm glad to hear 581 isn't being scrapped and look forward to riding it on the 27 at some point

632 would be fine if they took off every panel and tightly screwed them back on

598 - is ok
600 - i like, few others on here like it, has some umph
601 - needs all the etching removed
620 - im told its not a nice one to drive
626 - never had anything bad to say
632 - already given a critique
633 - not too bad
634 - decent bus
638 - bit of a snail but its ok
639 - my favourite of the remaining crusaders
640 - has a wider turning circle so struggles on the 62A in tettenhall plus has suddenly become a total snail

554 - i like
555 - the screaming cat
581 - good on a flat road, send it back to WA and do a swap

Thats my opinion

No they don't, the training fleet already has it's 6 Mercs. Work has started on converting one to a full training vehicle at Perry Barr (1688 I think it is). Much more comprehensive conversion than previous vehicles with the inside being converted to a classroom as well as the front being converted for driver training. It looks like it may end up with a couple of windows panelled over so will look quite different

I'm getting used to 6013's style of posting, Tony.  I think he/ she meant 'to replace the Mercs that have been withdrawn for conversion.'

But I could well be wrong.

They left months ago, replaced by brand new hybrids

Oh, we know that, but 6013's style of posting leaves oceans of room for misinterpretation...

554 is the worst B6 from Pensnett. 581 is a screamer and 581 and 555 are the best ones up a hill. 502 is the worst up the hill but the best for the screaming sound. 508 is also slow but has its own distinctive scream. 510 sounds like an elephant when it slows down to a stop. 544 is growly and 554 is just plain boring. 582 has quite a decent sound and reasonably fast but nothing particularly special.

Thanks for pointing that out John, 586 is good when it works and as with alot of coventry ex coventry vehicles has some poke but does sound rough still, 662 is a decent one. Still wish we could bring 655 back into service but i know that wont happen

To be completely honest, I've never liked the B6LEs, even as far back as when I lived with my parents and caught them on the 401/402 and 447/448/449, and then when I moved to Acocks Green and regularly caught the 30 (as well as those that appeared on the 166/S9 and the 37). Horrible buses, cramped in the seating area at the back.

Was actually relieved when AG finally withdrew their last few.
