Title: Least elusive buses
Post by: nitromatt1 on June 03, 2013, 02:02:14 PM
Basically the opposite of the most elusive buses thread, which buses seem to be 'stalker' buses to you - buses you always seem to see, photo or ride more than any others?

4821 is my stalker Enviro, having ridden it the most (it always seems to be the one that turns up!)

555 was similar before its fire :(

2083 is by far my most ridden B7RLE

4114 I feel like I have seen practically every day since its introduction, except for its periods in works or off the road.  For at least a fortnight back in its PB days it was the first bus I saw every day on the way to work.

These days I can't seem to move for 4500 leering over my shoulder.

When it was at Hockley, 1666 was like $hit to a blanket, as well as off a shovel.  For about six months 4737 was everywhere I went too - maybe it was just more noticeable as the only PB Enviro in the silly livery...

Ok My story...The last WN B7RLE I needed to 'go on' was 2076. I would see it nearly everyday for months, everywhere I went there was 2076 but I never seamed to be able or be in a situation to 'go on it' On the occasions I did have time to go on it I would wait at a 6 stand as long as I could (several times I waited over an hour but it didn't show) and still didn't get to go on it. Then a freak incident occurred one day when I actually needed to catch a 6 not so long ago shock horror.....2076 turns up so that was my last 'tick'
Funnily enough and contradictory to the normal rule of thumb this bus has not disappeared and I still keep seeing it everywhere!!

4006, Its the exact situation with 5417 with me atm and its the last WN hybrid (Rode all B5's and all E400H but 5417).

Keep seeing it everywhere. I was close to catching it yesterday but didn't get time to catch the 1!

Better luck today hopefully ;)

Been a bit of a mix so far, a few have been on all day boards but one or two also appear to have crept on either as peak extras or maybe replacement buses. 4913 was on the 24 this morning.

I still think its stupid that they're so against these buses going on all decker routes anyway. Seems a bit unfair. All roads had new buses once, and give it till January and they'll be all over the place anyway! You seen the B7rle's & E200's, they had the same "Strictly Only on ... routes" when to date they've been on everything.

For a route that only sees one or two Tridents a day (and even these are becoming scarcer now new E400s frequently appear), and from a garage with so many Tridents, 4171 has been on the 22/23 four times in the last couple of weeks. Then today, I found myself behind it driving along the Bristol Road. It's everywhere I go.

PB 4726 has been my bus home for the past three City - Sutton trips I've made (the only bus trips I've made recently in the West Midlands in fact), plus it (4726) has been the first bus I've seen when driving into town on the past five occasions.  Strange.

I'd say my 2 stalkers are easily 4742 and 4389, they follow me everywhere! Everything else varies I suppose I see 4042 a fair bit but I wouldn't say it was one of my stalker buses, 4389 is easily my least elusive bus but I like it so that isn't a bad thing!

I use the 900 a lot and I must say that Gabriella is top contender for me.
I'm getting good at predicting what will turn up: Last Saturday If I remember correctly the first Coventry-Birmingham journey was Molly.
In Coventry any of them are contenders really. 4224  (I've nicknamed it the 'palindrome' bus) seems to be a good one, although I narrowly avoided it yesterday yesterday because it went past me fully loaded on the 12.  What larks!

I worked at PB for a couple of months when they were short of drivers, I did the 11 a few times (PB did mainly the 11C and AG the 11A).

It was strange for me being a 45 / 47 driver turning right at Cotteridge island instead of the normal left!  :)

One of the buses I was lucky to have on the 11 was 3124.

I also drove 1481 on the 7.

Did the 11 run from there then? Or was it of a similar split with AG etc?

The only depots I've worked at was Cotteridge (many, many, many years ago), left the Company for pastures new, and then came back in 2002? to Birmingham Central. I've done a stint at YW for when the 50 transferred and one other time but I can't remember why some BC drivers changed  :-[ . [Maybe Bham Central Driver can help me here] If I remember correctly. I'll have to get some more accurate dates from looking at an abundance of paperwork I've found in the loft. Even found some old WMT timetables and garage paperwork. Also a little late running book from WMT era. Probably worth selling that crap as I've no use for it; I'm sure I'll forget what paper is soon enough  >:(

Nice one! Always great to see stuff from days gone. I've got the Jubilee Line tie from then, and numerous ceremonial ties. Shame NX doesn't continue in the path of WMT/TWM. I think the two eras I've experienced were the best. And I'm surprised how I've missed the Cosmos font which was used on all TWM publicity [and every TWM piece of paper I've found] lovely. It isn't even a dated typeface so I wish it would make a return. National Express and all associated graphics and fonts, I think, makes it messy.

LS - You'd love browsing through my box full of old paperwork, newsletters etc. Still got my Bristol Rd Jubilee Line badge from 2002. And lots of other interesting bits and bobs from the 90s onwards.

I agree with the Cosmos font. I liked the font on anything, eg, destination blinds, timetables, stickers etc. To me, that was the TWM font. The font NX is using today is shit, basically. Maybe they were trying to "match" with the logo writing? Also, I have noticed a change of wording on the Welcome Aboard sticker - "Please don't bring foul-smelling food or drinks that may spill on the bus." (iirc) Foul-smelling? Okay. On the old TWM sticker, I only can remember "No food or drinks allowed". That is a clear and concise instruction.

I too preferred the TWM branding. Sounded better anyway but the font always looked good on the buses. Been looking at some of the BY Scania Omnilinks today in toothpaste and they looked much smarter with the TWM logo and brand on the front. The livery was also much more distinctive than the NX livery and I swear the Scanias in toothpaste's paint has barely faded compared to the NX vinyl on the 57 PB regs.

'Fare' play! Last time I did a full 11 was when 30XX Metro's were the norm! Happy days.

Was you a passenger or driver then? LS?

Sorry, I should've clarified. Passenger, Bham Central Driver, I've never worked at PB or AG.

Or Harborne?

The 11 was originally split equally 3 ways between Acocks Green, Harborne & Perry Barr, with lots of other garages doing peak extras on it. The 8 late night buses would run in batches as well, so you got AG, AG, AG. PB, PB, PB, HE, HE in that order, so between 11pm & midnight each garages buses would all terminate close to their own garages at about the same time!

Very clever. So that's how they reduced the dead mileage so much then in those days. Any other routes which were split as such? Maybe with Cotteridge garage for South Routes with Yardley Wood maybe? I can't remember.

I love the Cosmos Font. I only wish is to make it slightly narrower, like for the numbers on the rollerblind display. They seemed quite 'tall' and slightly narrower, and it made it look nicer.

4227 always seems to follow me, and 4249 - which is in two tones of red and needs a trip to the paintshop. 4506 is definitely the least elusive for me (saw it twice today on the 83, yesterday twice on the 82 and it was on the 127-9 on Friday), it's probably the Gemini with the most personality at WB. Red panel above the windscreen, black offside fleet number, rear dot matrix shows numbers in the same format as 4700-4717, as well as 4247, 4522 & 4524

4828/29 are also some top contenders... Always on the 101, when I see them - sometimes the 16, nevertheless, they seem all too powerful on these routes. No more speeding down the Hagley Road, but some laid-back cruising through Hockley, instead ;)

4544 for me when I'm in Darlaston waiting for either the 37 or 333X to show up last week I've seen 4544 three days in a row always on the 79 to West Bromwich yet again not a bad trident though.

Seems to be 4675 now. A good Gemini though.

Sorry to be reviving an old topic, but here's a funny one: 4698

What's more is that, being a training bus, it could be anywhere - so I'd have thought the chances of me bumping into it just anywhere is pretty slim. I reported it yesterday in the Training Bus Sightings thread; where it was in  New Invention. Today, it's followed me to somewhere off the Walsall Road. And last week, I saw it twice around Bordesley.

Nice to see it out and about, but a little annoying as I can never seem to get a decent photo of it! 😂

Likewise, the only photo I've managed to get of it was through one of the windows on C212 GTU while it was running the shuttle for the AG open day earlier in the year. Kinda annoying that I haven't seen it since, despite hanging around outside Walsall depot a few times to catch most of the training fleet.
