Title: Last journey you made on public transport
Post by: Sh4318 on April 14, 2014, 07:32:19 PM
What's the last journey you made by public transport
Mine is:
1923 New Street - Smethwick Galton Bridge 158839 + 158821
Still in pursuit of 1588823 to complete my set, but it seems to be eluding me

Not as much as it should!
When I got on the train at Water Orton, which is unmanned and doesn't have a ticket machine the conductor couldn't be bothered to come out his back cab to sell tickets to the couple of us that got on there.

£10.30 return Nuneaton to Leicester
£6.30 single Nuneaton to Rugeley.

What was baffling was when I went to the ticket machine at Nuneaton to buy the ticket to Rugeley it gave me 3 options

£8.50 any permitted (valid via Birmingham)
£6.50 'not Birmingham'
£6.30 'via Tamworth'

Not quite sure why there are both of the bottom two as I cannot think of a route you can take 'not Birmingham' that isn't 'via Tamworth'

Didn't like the look of all the traffic queuing up on Camp Hill when I left work this evening, so got the 50 from Moseley Road/Bradford Street into Moseley, then luckily managed to get straight on a 1. Got held up coming through Springfield, but still arrived in Acocks Green village before the 31 did, that was just behind the 50 I got on!  :D

Amazing how buses can be driven "fast" and get there actually after a bus which left the same time and drove "Slow".

Took a bit of a long way home yesterday after work; got a 900 from Bordesley station to the Airport, then a 966 to Solihull, and finally a 37 back to Acocks Green.

Still think that the 900 would have benefited more from the new bus only road if it went to the airport terminal before the rail station, on journeys towards Coventry.

The gear shifts are due to the mechanical transmission  ;D. I take it you didn't go on 79336 (the non-toilet carriage of 172 336/DMSO (whatever it's called)), basically it sounds like it's over-revving:

120 (2103, ex AG!) from Broad Street to Langley

then the return journey this evening:
120 from Langley to Broad Street
9 from Broad Street to Colmore Row (after RTI showed the 1 was running near half hour late!)
37 from Carrs Lane to Acocks Green

Going to start a totally random guessing game now of wild speculation - are you picking up a coach to be used as a shuttle vehicle during the Commonwealth games?

SR102?

That's great. Hopefully there's a Sunday service on it's way, even though I can't see it being more than 5 trains a day (as current Blakedown Sunday service)

London Midland have rejected a request to provide a 2-hourly Sunday service from the December timetable.  I think that the Stourbridge Line User Group are going to resubmit this request when Monday to Saturday figures are published showing an increase in footfall at Hartlebury.

Incidentally, London Midland have agreed to one extra train per hour in each direction (off-peak Monday to Saturday) at Hagley from December, reinstating through trains from there to Worcester.

@Roy that would be great for Hartlebury, it would receive the same level of service as Small Heath (2tph). Presumably the Whitlock's End terminators would need more time on journeys to call at Hartlebury, so hopefully the Worcester xx:51s to Whitlock's End, will be retimed to leave at xx:46 to allow time to call at Hartlebury. Hopefully Hartlebury will receive some form of a Sunday service by December

@Sh4318 You misunderstood me - by 2-hourly, I meant that a train every 2 hours.  That has been rejected by LM as not being cost-effective.  The proposal was to stop the hourly Worcester - Stratford Sunday service alternately at Hartlebury and Blakedown, giving each a train every 2 hours.  The Stourbridge Line User Group believes that this could be done as the timetables still allow the same running times as they were when run by Class 150's.  The 172's have greater acceleration which means that extra stops could be fitted into the existing schedule.  For instance, the extra off-peak Mon-Sat Hagley stop from December is achieved by reducing the wait time at Kidderminster.

Thus Hartlebury will not be getting a Sunday service from December 2014 - but the campaign to get one will continue, with success hopefully in 2015.  When you consider that Hartlebury only got off-peak services in December 2013 and evening services in May 2014, a lot has been achieved.  If the people of Hartlebury and Stourport support the services they have gained in the past 6 months, then not only is a Sunday service in the future a possibility, but also a half-hourly weekday off-peak service.

@Roy, oh yeah, I mistook Hartlebury for Hagley when you mentioned an extra weekday service, lol. I knew what you meant by 2 hourly (2tp2h) ;). I can't imagine people who Hagley station would've been best pleased to lose their direct service to Worcester. Will this mean Hagley will be 3 trains per hour from December in each direction, or will one of the Kidderminster terminators elude Hagley?

@Sh4318 Yes it means 3 tph off-peak Monday to Saturday.  Hagley are getting extra stops at xx12 (from 1012 to 1512) southbound, and at xx44 (from 1044 to 1444) northbound.  Details are at http://www.stourbridgelineusergroup.info/news%20and%20comment.html (http://www.stourbridgelineusergroup.info/news%20and%20comment.html)

Yes, if the infrastructure on the WCML allows - which sadly it doesn't, and probably will never do. The days of running trains at 140mph in the UK are over after it was possible with the 91+MK4 sets on the ECML a few years ago.

It appears that Mr Branson wants his new trains for the ECML to run at 140mph eventually!!

It appears that Mr Branson wants his new trains for the ECML to run at 140mph eventually!!

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/first-look-inside-new-virgin-7584498

And of course we already have trains running at 186mph

and of course, thinking about it, don't HS1 trains do 140mph? Although when I travelled from St Pancras to Gravesend on it, I found the speed slightly uncomfortable.

Think the 395s on HS1 do 140 (top speed) and E* is at 186mph - but either way HS1 is relatively self contained and is designed specifically for high speed travel, unlike the ECML/WCML.

Not sure of the vehicle travelled on but it was between Bromsgrove bus and train stations courtesy of Diamond Bus's 42 service and cost £1.80.  I guess I should have asked for a return ticket as later in the evening with less buses from all operators running, the first bus back to the bus station that turned up was a Diamond 43 service  -  still working between train and bus stations - but going via Charford - but would have cost me £2.70 for a single . . . . . . . . I decided to walk !

Still slightly perplexes me that the short 48s don't at least serve Harborne High St. Nice journey, the ALX400/B7s have served my local routes very well for the past 10-15 years, they helped fill the void that the Metrobuses left, they will be missed when they're withdrawn - at least by me

4273, NXWM, 12E, Colmore Row to home. A trip down memory lane, you forget how bumpy these ALX400s can be on the upper saloon, guess it's a case of "use them while you can", as they'll be withdrawn before I know it

Something for history file rode the last 998 from Pheasey deers leap 1904 to Perry Barr on bus 2944 Saturday 15 January 2000.

The route was withdrawn on the date and replaced by 34 the next day 16 January 2000 using former BC Volvo B10Ls 1456-1462.

Daytime 34 was replaced by 934 May 2006 the 34 survived evenings Sundays until 2008/2009.

What was used on the 934 before 1844-1847 were bought for the 934? Was it B10's? The 34 went eventually in 2008.

From 2003 34 used Volvo Geminis then scanias 1844-1847 took over January 2008 with the 934 extension to Foley Arms.

1944 - 12A: home to city centre

I forgot how bad the legroom was on the Omnilinks, I thought we were over this when the B6LEs were withdrawn.

There's at least 2 of these on the 12/A & 13/As today.

I thought 4687-4696 were back now?
