Quote from: Stu on February 18, 2024, 09:34:07 AMSo perhaps there is something wrong with the way that Coventry CC are reporting disruptions to TfWM?
Why bother with Cov CC?
Wouldn't it be better if TfWM talked direct with the local bus operators who know their patch quite well?

Quote from: Stu on February 18, 2024, 12:09:45 PMAs far as I can make out from the timetable, WMR only operate a couple of journeys to/from Coventry, so presumably it would be London Northwestern (LNR) that would call at any Coventry East station.

As LNR journeys are already pathed to avoid clashing with the faster services, it might just require a small timetable tweak to factor in this additional stop.

Agree as there are less Avanti trains today and also the more recent LNWR units have better acceleration rates so time in section is less than it would have been 25 to 30 years ago.

Wasn't there a call from Warwickshire to reopen the nearby Brandon & Wolston station as well? If so the LNWR trains could require two additional stops in this section?

Quote from: the trainbasher on February 18, 2024, 03:15:21 AMWell couldn't platform loops work for the Binley station (I can't see them calling it Willenhall as there is the new Willenhall station opening soon in Wolvo, and two in the Midlands sounds like a job lot!) so if Avanti do reinstate the third train, WMR services can stop at the Coventry East Station and be out of the way of fast running services running in the through lines?
IMO, assuming the mayor's 'New' (ho ho) plan is for a station in the cutting at St James Lane. Then he should stick with the local Coventry council original plan and call it Binley & Willenhall as Binley is on one side of the line and Willenhall on the other.  Best ask the Mayor what the heck does Coventry East mean?

Stations are built as cheap as possible. Again IMO putting extra tracks sounds a good idea but there isn't the money to do it? Also there isn't space to do this in a cutting.

Just maybe the Mayor's plan will be to plonk the platforms somewhere else. We will have wait and see unless anyone has more info? IMO Binley & Willenhall station should have been built years ago.

Don't forget election time is coming soon and many promised vote catching ideas just don't happen!. If 'Coventry East' ever gets built it will be a long wait until the first train is able to call there,

Let's see how this station idea rolls on.

Quote from: Stu on February 17, 2024, 08:52:22 AMYes, I saw this story the other day.

Looking on Google Maps, I think I can make out where the Castle Bromwich station used to be, where the Chester Road crosses the line.

Can't see any obvious place where the other two stations would go.
Coventry East!
This is a fascinating Mayoral political spin on a very long standing plan (25 to 30 years ago) to get Binley & Willenhall served by train. The original local Coventry council plan (well before the Mayor's office was dreamed up) was to have the station in the cutting below St James Lane. What stopped the idea was the introduction of Virgin's high frequency train service to London  - the train paths for a Binley/ Willenhall stopper could not be fitted in. Someone has recently realised that now Avanti run less trains that hey presto Binley & Willenhall could be back on the agenda.

To note that it was also Virgin's high speed train services on the WCML through Nuneaton killed off the direct Coventry to Leicester and Nottingham / Skegness that was quite a successful service. They used to reverse at Nuneaton and cross the WCML on the then flat junction. Even today Coventry passengers still have to change at Nuneaton to get to Leicester.

Progress eh?

Quote from: ellspurs on February 16, 2024, 02:21:38 PMAgain, there is a link at the top of the page to leave feedback. I have just done this, if you do it as well then it may trigger something in their heads to look at.
As I said earlier the TfWM online bus disruptions list/map is a great idea if it works.

It seems to report a lot of detail for Birmingham which is good but current reporting of Coventry disruptions just isn't working. Another current Coventry reporting failure example is NXC 21 affected by Bell Green Rd closure this weekend.

This is a TfWM system issue that the professional people in their organisation need to sort out. IMO this system should be proactive and report these events as / before they happen and not rely on ad-hoc feedback from others.

Until TfWM can get to grips on all the bus disruptions why don't they admit that Coventry is excluded from the system at the moment?

As I said if they can sort this out it will be a very useful source of info for everyone but they are not there yet.

Maybe Coventry should just take control of its own patch?
Hello TfWM, Coventry calling, over.

We are now 5 days into a fortnight's service disruption in east Coventry that is not shown by the TfWM system from what I can see.
Issue is that access from Willenhall Lane to St James Lane is not possible.
NXC 13 affected and well advertised by NXC. Bus destination blinds accurately showing Binley instead of Willenhall.
SC 60 on a major divert as well.

Surely this situation should be shown on the TfWM system or is it there and I have missed it?

Just a thought. Should this thread become a standalone topic as the project gets going?

The initial route will be quite short and maybe coming soon to Coventry if the money is there
https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/new-traffic-restrictions-cycle-path-28274128

From the map it looks like Phase 1 will run from the railway station to just a little further than the old IKEA store.
Phase 2 goes along Corporation St to just outside of Pool Meadow.

Initial roadworks are reported due to start Spring 2024.

Accuracy is key and then there is useful detail but this is expected as standard surely?

Maybe Coventry should just take control of its own patch?

TfWM online bus disruptions list/map. A great idea if it works.

Can someone give TfWM a nudge to tell them that NXWM Birmingham services 49 and 50 do not normally run through Coventry. The disruptions maps says differently at the moment. Bells Lane, Druids Heath ain't in Coventry AFAIK.

Stagecoach / Re: Stagecoach in Coventry & Warwickshire
February 12, 2024, 07:41:04 AM
Quote from: JPC on February 11, 2024, 07:31:49 PMIt'll most likely just be Langbank Avenue and Allard Way with passengers in or out of Willenhall probably advised to interchange at Whitley Asda to/from service 21.
Looks like you are quite right watching this morning
Willenhall could still be served if the SC 60 did a short hop along the A46 instead of using Allard Way.

Nothing found so far about the diversion on the SC web service updates page.

Wasn't sure where to post this so started a new thread. Hope this is OK?

SC 60 operates only across Coventry.

Interesting situation tomorrow morning as part of the SC 60 route is blocked for about 2 weeks at Willenhall Lane.
I've not found it mentioned in their Service Updates so do they know about it?

First bus tomorrow should reach there at about 0630. Will watch to see what happens.

Wonder what the detour will be to continue to serve both Willenhall shops and WSP - A46 bypass maybe?

Well done to NXC who have already reported their solution for the 13 service.

When St James Lane is closed next week how will the 13 return to City if terminating at Craigends Ave?
https://nxbus.co.uk/coventry/service-updates/st-james-lane-closure

Could not find out from the service update.

If a reversing move is to be avoided could it be a detour around Langbank Ave / Princethorpe Way / Quorn Way and back onto Willenhall Lane?

Stagecoach / Warwickshire fares change 18th February 2024
February 07, 2024, 06:54:40 PM
From 18th February we'll be making changes to our DayRider & MegaRider prices along with some fares which are less than £2. As with other businesses, we have seen our operational costs increase and we need to react.

The government £2 single 'Help for Households' scheme remains in place until at least 30th June and provides excellent value. This scheme is helping us make sure the maximum single fare continues to be £2.

Nuneaton MegaRider:
It's getting bigger! We're going to be including Atherstone, Hinckley, Arley & Ansley within the Nuneaton MegaRider zone from 18th February. you'll be able to travel further for less! Click here for the map

Nuneaton MegaRider Plus:
The Nuneaton Plus boundary has been moved. You will no longer be able to travel beyond Atherstone towards Tamworth or Mearsham, passengers will need to buy a Midlands Gold MegaRider or buy £2 single tickets if cheaper (any existing tickets will be honoured until expiry). Click here for the map

Tamworth 766Rider:
This ticket will no longer be available. Passengers should choose the ticket that covers the area they are travelling in or buy a £2 single

Below are details of the fare changes in each area:

The long shelter at University Hospital Coventry bus interchange at the 17 stop was reshaped in January. A couple of new large glass panels looked like they were being replaced. Whatever caused the reshape didn't seem to get a mention anywhere from what I can see? Hope no one was hurt?

Quote from: Sandy Lane on January 27, 2024, 01:18:27 PMThanks for the info. Defo a good move.
I ll check out the flag to see if the X30 number has been added.
The Hales St flag is not displaying the X30 service this morning.
Now the two week diversion has finished and back on the original route unless NXC has a local instruction I can't see the X30 picking  up there from tomorrow? Maybe TfWM will be updating the stop tonight JIT?
Let's see what happens.
