Quote from: Sandy Lane on April 17, 2024, 07:22:27 PMThere is a piece on this bus in today's Coventry paper. In it they say "The museum had acquired the bus in 1986 and, due to damage, the roof was removed to convert it to an open top".

Could they simply have repaired the roof damage rather than go at it with a tin opener?

Does anyone know what was the original roof damage?
Was the declared roof damage just a spoof to chop the full roof off 125?

Quote from: Justin Tyme on April 06, 2024, 09:42:09 PMThe open top Fleetline, PDU 125M, was the very last Daimler bus built, and therefore the last full-size bus chassis built in Coventry.  Because of its history, West Midlands PTE donated it to the Coventry Motor Museum when it was withdrawn.

Then, when Coventry City won the FA cup in 1987, the museum ignored its history and controversially converted it to open top.  It was along time ago but even so I would hope that any operator donating a bus would include a clause requiring the vehicle to be kept complete.

Quote from: Westy on April 13, 2024, 11:28:04 AMThen if A-Line disappears for any reason, the process starts again.

What about the street name, that should always be the priority for the stop?
Exactly and that's my point!
Trouble is there is not much around that location to come up with a geographic name but suggestions always welcome.

The stops are on Brandon Rd, Coventry
Use what 3 words = parts.then.bonus

Also note the entrance to the A-line depot is off the Brandon Rd not Herald Way.

Quote from: Westy on April 12, 2024, 03:26:29 PMThere's probably quite a few like that, that have had to change over the years.
Similar in Coventry.

Before they lifted and shifted overseas the HSBC bank had a suite of big offices in Coventry and the nearest stops (outwards & into town) are still called HSBC today - quite meaningless today.

There seems to be no real local name nearby that could be used instead except for other businesses including a local bus/coach operator. So how about changing the stop names to A-Line? It would make more sense to people locally.

Quote from: Sandy Lane on February 13, 2024, 05:24:58 PMTfWM online bus disruptions list/map. A great idea if it works.
Checking for Coventry today seems to show a perfect world - no disruptions from what I read.
https://disruptions.tfwm.org.uk/?isMapVisible=true

But hang on isn't there a major divert in place for New Union St affecting both SC and NXC?

If TfWM can't manage this detail in Coventry why don't they say Coventry is excluded?

Quote from: Tony on April 06, 2024, 04:12:06 PMHave you thought the Museum might not a more modern bus. Where would they put it?
Good point but their Collecting Policy says - We still collect actively. Our collection policy focuses on significant material relevant to the history of Coventry road transport ..........

Aren't Coventry buses therefore quite relevant? It would be a nice gesture for one of NXC's last remaining diesel vehicles to be offered before the whole fleet goes electric. Agree on the vehicle not being 'chopped' by the museum later on - make it a condition of handover.

Popped in there and see they still have the open top decker on display as used by the CCFC cup final celebrations way back in time.

Got me thinking about buses used in Coventry and what looks like a lack of more recent ex Coventry buses.
Does NXC ever offer a retired Coventry bus to the museum?
Would be good to see a more modern donation and a link to NXC who have been running Coventry services for quite some time now.

Anyone remember De Courcey's 360A & 360C 31 mile circular route around Coventry?
Not sure what the journey time was though but reckon it ran every 30 mins?

According to TfWM upcoming bus service changes the Coventry SC 60 will no longer call at the Jaguar plant from 06 April.
https://www.tfwm.org.uk/plan-your-journey/ways-to-travel/buses-in-the-west-midlands/upcoming-bus-service-changes/

It's is good to see TfWM covering Coventry changes although so far not found this mentioned on the SC service changes site?

Following on from Stu's post in the SC Birmingham thread. It is worth showing some of the detail in the Warks thread.

The Department for Transport (DfT) announced today (Friday 21 March 2024) that it would be awarding Warwickshire County Council £4.3 million from its Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas 2 (ZEBRA 2) funding stream to aid with the rollout of electric vehicles in the County.

The funding will see the Council working with key delivery partner, Stagecoach Midlands and Warwick District Council to roll out 27 all electric buses that will serve routes and settlements across Warwickshire.

Thanks to this important funding, the following services will operate electric vehicles:

1 – Warwick Town Centre - Woodloes Park -, Spinney Hill - Leamington Town Centre – Whitnash - South Farm.
4 – Brownsover - Elliotts Field Retail Park - Rugby Rail Station - Rugby Town Centre - Bilton - Admirals Estate - Cawston Grange.
5/5A – Nuneaton Town Centre - Chapel End - Camp Hill - Nuneaton Town Centre.
9 – Nuneaton Town Centre – Stockingford – Nuneaton Town Centre.
10 – Nuneaton Town Centre – Stockingford – Grove Farm.
48A – Nuneaton - Hartshill - Mancetter - Atherstone (extending to Grendon - Dordon - Polesworth - Tamworth on Sundays and Bank Holidays only).

In addition, on Sundays when the Peak Vehicle Requirement (PVR) is reduced on other routes, Stagecoach Midlands have identified Service 77/78 (serving rural settlements in the Stratford-upon-Avon District via Kineton) on which all-electric buses can be used.

Quote from: BBS on March 27, 2024, 06:44:02 PMRugby, Leamington and Nuneaton to get electrics, may see these Birmingham service get those too
Have you got any more gen?
If the funding is from ZEBRA 2 I believe it may only be intended for bus routes in Warwickshire so may not cover Birmingham as well?

........ and the uncertainty continues.....

A Very Light Rail (VLR) passenger service in Coventry is not expected to be up and running until at least 2026, a councillor said.

There is a lot to read here

BBC News - Coventry's Very Light Rail not due for years - councillor
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-68544171

So delayed at least until 2026, also subject to planning permission and more funding. Hmmmmmm sounds like the public is being prepared not to expect too much, if anything at all. Not good PR with an election due soon!
