On the side of some of the class 323 trains there seems to be an orange box which i dont think is a light as some have been removed i just wondered if this was an electronic destination display in the past and dont get used now or if im totally wrong what was their purposes.

You're right the box was for destination display. The use of them stopped several years ago.
I heard that they had a lot of problems with rain water leaking into the box and
never solved the problem, so their use was discontinued.

Thanks for the Information JIM H yeah a side destination would have been quite useful especially at stations like Aston and Duddeston where the Walsall-Wolverhampton and cross city lines both call at and when running for the train not knowing which train it is.
