The above statement isn't strictly true, as Maggie will sell out eventually if she ever wants to retire.....

Pity someone couldn't take over from her when she finally retires, think Hansons is a fabulous firm, & would be really missed in the Stourbridge/Dudley area.
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

Yeah exactly-its just a difficult time at the moment in the bus industry generally and she could always sell the business and then open a new one on other routes?

Thanks Jon, it would be good to see Hanson's to continue as an independent, as I suspect if it were ever to be sold some of the more marginal routes that work for Hanson's current setup would end up being withdrawn in the hands of a larger operator

I agree Winston.  It was a shame what happened to Ludlows routes 004/006/007/230 since these services had run in Halesowen for 10-20 years.  I image in the case of the 006 and 230 possibly even longer.

I can remember watching the 006 go past our house when I was really little, so was quite sad when Diamond gave it the chop.

Sonic, wasn't the 006 Ludlows very first route, I used to use if back from school from 1990-93. I those times the services was very used & always carried good loads. I seem to remember Ludlows first national eventually ended up being re-registered NAT333A. At one time I seem to remember the 006 was a Hayley Green circular services going in one direction whilst another service went the opposite way around. I was sad to see Ludlows sell out, however it was funny watching BCC dramatically fail after launching on every Ludlows route 5 mins in front.

sonic84

It may well have been their first service.

I can remember that there used to be a 006 at 3.30pm which ran in the opposite direction for a while for Windsor High School.

Can you also remember the 003 Halesowen - Hayley Green service from the early 1990's which up the Hagley Road, then did the Portsdown Road - Lutley Lane loop, before heading back down the Hagley Road to Halesowen.  I seem to remember that the 003 used to interwork with the 002, when that ran Halesowen - Kitwell only.

Do you also remember the 005 which used to run Halesowen - Cradley Heath via Belle Vale and Timbertree.  Pretty much along the route which the extended 007 used to take.

BCC certainly failed spectacularly when they launched the attack on Ludlow's running 5 minutes ahead, with cheaper fares.... can you remember the week of free travel on all their services too.

nitromatt1

This is all a bit before my time, but I remember riding the 006 when it was operated by TGB, I assume it took the same route around Hayley Green/Hasbury when it was operated by Ludlows?

Yes I remember the 003, I can't remember the 005, my memory banks are struggling with everything else I have to remember...... The one am 006 also used to divert via Windsor Road and drop on the Windsor kids at the bottom before returning back to Halesowen BS.

Yes I remember BCC doing a week of free travel and the majority of passengers stayed loyal to Ludlow's and still paid a fare. Do you remember Ludlow's acquiring / operating the two white Metroriders on the 417 to combat BCC?
