If I use my free travel pass (inc rail travel) how far could I travel from birmingham by train and/or bus
and still get back before midnight?
Mind the Gap.....?:-)

Interesting question.  ;D

It's certainly not the furthest you could go for free in a day, but my personal best is B'ham - Wolverhampton - Stafford - Cannock - Walsall - B'ham.  Might have been further if my Wolverhampton>Penkridge>Stafford Arriva hadn't been delayed 70 minutes on the approach to Gailey roundabout due to a massive tailback (crash on M6, apparently).  I suspect you could readily get to Stoke-on-Trent and back from Stafford, as I think the connecting Arriva service has a 30 minute frequency.

I still tend to use West Midlands Day Rangers for anything like Hereford or Shrewsbury .....

Would I be able to go to Rugeley T.V. using my nNetwork all zones pass

No the limit is Bloxwich North. An all zones NTrain pass in valid to Rugeley though which is why it is shaded on the nNetwork map

Sorry I've not seen this up to now.  It's easiest on Saturdays, but round trips you could do in a day include: -

  • Birmingham - Wolverhampton - Shrewsbury - Ludlow - Kidderminster - Bromsgrove - Birmingham
  • Birmingham - Burton - Derby - Hanley - Stafford - Wolverhampton - Birmingham
  • Birmingham - Coventry - Leicester - Coalville - Burton - Birmingham
  • Birmingham - Coventry - Northampton - Milton Keynes (and return)
  • Birmingham - Stratford - Banbury - Daventry - Rugby - Coventry - Birmingham
  • Birmingham - Worcester - Hereford - Ledbury - Malvern - Worcester - Birmingham
Not all of these use major operators, so it's worth checking County Council websites as well for times.
