It depends? Look at Lothian, Blackpool, Cardiff, Nottingham? Im sure the Tories would want them all sold off though they hate the thought of anything belonging to the public

While there are good examples of municipal operators working successfully, I doubt there is the capital available to start up or take over services.

If the government had the money to spend on Sunday services, they maybe would whether running the service themselves or contracting it out. The trouble is THERE IS NO MONEY! Or at least at current, money doesn't want to be spent.

Considering the recent news on Rosso, I don't really see the argument being particularly strong... Costs are rising and councils are struggling... Just look at Northamptonshire County Council having to sell off their new headquarters to balance their books.

The former Union Rep at Nuneaton, will always remember a poster up in the garage about speed limit signs having the 30 changed with pen to show "36" with "Dicko" written next to it in a banterous jab at him being flashed by the Old Hinckley Road speed camera with former 34398!
There's a bench next to the bus stops in Bedworth Town Centre dedicated to him also.

Hello can anyone confirm when the gold buses are in service on the 48 route 26202-226 will the older buses that used to work this route be transferred or will they stay at Nuneaton for other routes info would be greatly appreciated

"More details have been made available to us of the fleet cascade plan which will be put into action when the new 11.8 metre Gold-spec Enviro 200MMCs enter service at Nuneaton at the end of this month. 11 Enviro 200s will transfer from Nuneaton to Leamington and Rugby with 13 MAN/Enviro 200s moving to Rugby and Kettering. The transfers will eliminate the Dart SLF type from Leamington and Kettering, leaving just Rugby and Corby operating them.
The transfers will also see the Optare Solo eliminated from the Corby allocation  with 47418 transferred to Kettering and others of the type at Corby withdrawn for disposal. The elimination of the Solos at Corby will leave just the Scania/East Lancs double decks 15401-05 operational in Corby Star livery. This is one of the longest surviving local identity brands within Stagecoach.
Once all the changes have taken place Corby will have Dart SLFs 35174/75/76/77/78/79, 35218/19/21/22/23/24/25/26 on its books with 35180-85 in the main fleet at Rugby and 34815-18 in the Reserve Fleet there. All other Dart SLFs will be for disposal."

Personally I believe that the routes which are most costly to the taxpayer, despite being deemed "socially necessary", should be reduced/withdrawn, or replaced by demand responsive solutions such as Uber or ArrivaClick.

I'm sorry but I totally disagree with this statement. Subsidised services can often maintain a steady network of commercial services as if someone using a subsidised service may go and use commercial services. If you drop the subsidy, you would lose the passenger on the commercial service too making that route also less viable.
I think you really need to look at the bigger picture with subsidy, at the impacts caused to other services around it and the social impacts caused by the withdrawal of a service.

Demand services such as the TaxiBus were clearly less cost effective, otherwise the 89 wouldn't have came into existence. As also mentioned in the Arriva Cannock thread by @Bob , Sunday and evening journeys are also important as someone who can't travel on a Sunday will just find an alternative method for all 7 days of the week and another customer has been lost...

Most of the population clearly does care about their bus service, otherwise there wouldn't be council U Turns such as here: http://www.bususers.org/news-events/news/norfolk-campaigners-save-bus-subsidies/

It is a very interesting debate to have though but I would really think it is more of a case by case basis. If they didn't need the money, it wouldn't have the money.

The Coventry Bus Magazine appears to show a pvr of 126 on the regular routes. Are there any other daily allocations not mentioned there as the number of buses at Coventry seems rather high to cover that.

The PVR in my magazine does not include Peak workings which is around 10 - 15 additional buses. It isn't included in my magazine as many of these buses do a school and or a few peak trips. It is very much a summarisation @Eric Shaw
