Title: University of Wolverhampton
Post by: Ashley 60171 on February 18, 2016, 05:14:47 PM
My sister informed me that her shuttle bus, one of the Optare Tempos had a faulty emergency exit door.
Apparently the driver was aware of the fault but just took photos of it and continued with his journey but told people not to sit by it, then it flipped open on the Black Country route.

Not sure. Just saw a post on Facebook. It did not indicate for how long.

Just to add, it was previously being evaluated by Ensign Bus. It has also been in use in First (believe Tony photographed it).

Ahhhh the former First 36301. Took ages to get ready for service, warranty twice, and the back end required a lot of filler. Spent about half a year with us, where it spent about half of that time in service, although when it was out it was pretty reliable, just a shame about the build quality better than a B7L anyroads.... We were only meant to have it three months too.

It is an Optare Metrodecker, appears to be the same one that was in use with Yorkshire Tiger and Reading Buses. The MCV bodied B5TL has moved on.

The demonstrator bus will be on the Walsall shuttle service until it goes back to the manufacturer.

If nothing has changed by the Transport and Travel Co-ordinator, then the demonstrator bus will do these departures:

Wolverhampton (Stafford Street outside the University towards Walsall): 07:30, 10:15, 12:15, 15:15, 17:15, 20:15.

Walsall (town centre towards Wolverhampton): 08:10, 11:15, 13:15, 16:15, 18:15, 21:15.

I'll be starting at the university in a couple of weeks, so I'll be able to use the shuttle buses, which is a bonus. I always see them around the city centre, but you tend to hear them first. Have Tempo's always been that loud or is it something with the ones at the UoW?

Just don't expect the buses to be on time or get a seat... Walsall Line is always full. Telford is dead. It used to annoy me was that sometimes they put an Optare Solo on the Walsall Line. ::)

I won't need to use them much, since I've got an mTicket from the uni too until April. I'd probably have better luck just getting the 529 if I needed to get to Walsall for whatever reason. Do they still have the Solo? It looked in bad shape from the picture on the main site.

Does it get used much these days? I've never seen it in the city centre but I haven't been to Wolverhampton too much in the past.

I believe that the Solo is owned by Wolverhampton Science Park (in which the University have a financial connection) and itappears to be used generally as a stand in for one of the regular buses if unavailable.
I have seen the Solo in use about a month ago.

Hmm, interesting, are there any specific details about which ones, and will they replace the Tempos?

Talking about the Tempos, if they are being replaced, I'll have to remember to catch one in the near future.

I would guess they may replace the Tempos. I'll ask the guy on Monday. Tbh, if I were you, I'd get the Tempos this month just to be on the safe side.

Ooh, they look nice to be honest. I would've guessed they'd be MetroDeckers, since they've gone with Optares in the past, but I guess not.

I was gonna pop up to Telford to grab some things from the CeX there sometime next week, so I'll check out the Tempos then.

UoW had 5 T reg Volvo B6BLEs before the Optare Tempos came in the fleet.

Was surprised because the demos they had were:

Do you know if the uni's only getting the two, or are there still more to follow?

If it's just them two, then I presume they could be keeping some or all of the Tempos too?

Ah, interesting, I can see them fully replacing the Tempos then, although that will mean it will be going from 4 active buses to 3. I guess the Solo could be used on occasion though, if it's needed.

Since there's 4 Tempo's right now, and they're likely gonna be replaced by the 3 B5TL's? Or do they only use 3 Tempos at the same time?
