Transfer or loan?
Quote from: Ronnoc on May 16, 2024, 07:21:53 PMI pretty much agree with everything apart from this bit. Enhancing active travel does play a big part in reducing congestion if done correctly. A lot of car journeys that people take can usually be done via means of walking or cycling. The road system here is extremely hostile to cycling, we don't have to look very far to see the benefits of good cycling infrastructure (Paris, London, Netherlands). Bus lanes and cycle lanes please.I'm not averse to 'active travel', I just said there was 'too much focus', that's all.
Quote from: Ronnoc on May 16, 2024, 04:17:38 PMFranchising is a very very small piece of the puzzle in terms of transport improvements. As I have said many times before, franchising won't magically make bus services punctual and reliable overnight, you'll still have the same issues. What needs to be looked at is the 'infrastructure'. More bus lanes, and more bus priority measures, such as 'smart' traffic light signals that alter traffic flows to allow buses through quicker.
Quote from: ellspurs on May 15, 2024, 05:05:45 PMhttps://www.route-one.net/news/west-midlands-bus-franchising-process-set-to-start-in-2025-mayor/I note with interest from that article the following:
Go-Ahead'll be around soon, the saviours of everything and such other nonsense.
QuoteIn a bold statement, the Combined Authority claims that Transport for the West Midlands (TfWM) "is covering about half the running costs of bus services" already. Further detail on how that figure has been arrived at has been requested from TfWM.Now I'm under the impression that the main reason why bus services are being heavily subsidised (through central Government funding streams that are allocated to the WMCA/TfWM) is because the Government pretty much destroyed the bus industry in 2020 with the introduction of the Covid pandemic lockdown. (Whether you agree or disagree with the actions taken is a whole other kettle of fish)
WMCA says it has spent over £75 million on bus subsidies in 18 months. The current package is in place until the end of 2024. TfWM is currently in talks with the government and operators over a continuation to prevent service cuts or fare increases from that point.
Quote from: winston on May 15, 2024, 01:50:01 PMI'd say the closures are pretty certain, they're all over the Trade Press
Quote from: BBS on May 14, 2024, 05:23:37 AMwhat about the 75**? Did they come into service after 1st October? No, September 2019

Quote from: cardew on May 13, 2024, 02:30:25 PMI can't say I'm surprised, NX must have been so frustrated having 20 buses sitting idle for want of fuel.
So what of the WMCA's grand plans to generate hydrogen from canal water in Walsall I wonder?
The ZEBRA funding aspect is interesting, will the government allow that phase one funding to be re-specified as electric vehicles like they did for the Sprint bendis? I think the total grant was £30 million for 124 buses.
Quote from: Tony on May 13, 2024, 01:22:07 PMIt as nothing to do with the car speeding the car was actually going very slowly
Quote from: BlackCountryBusSpotter on May 13, 2024, 07:38:02 PMOh I didn't want to acuse the Bus Driver of Speeding either I know the car pulled out. There could ne numerous factors, Driver might not have seen the car reacted late as wba lad said, bus driver might have had his/her sight obstructed by something or someone. Could have been distracted by a Passenger. I also didn't want to blame the Car Driver but based on the way i interpreted it flew out the junction obviously it didn't. All that we do is 1846 is a write off further why I gathered speeding was a factor. Although the bus must have hit the car quite hard to be a write off unless it hit a Range Rover or something.I see far too many 'near-misses' where drivers fail to 'give-way' at junctions or roundabouts.
Quote from: Ingleboro261F on May 13, 2024, 02:53:55 PMAny chances the 11A/11C will get announcements any time soon?Probably not for a while. The current vehicles being used don't have the equipment installed.
Quote from: Mayfield on May 12, 2024, 10:39:54 PMWhy have all the long term out of use vehicles suddenly lost the last tracing data i.e.Because its only retained for a certain period.

Quote from: Ronnoc on May 12, 2024, 05:02:52 PMIt's so common on Facebook to see all of these low functioning doom and gloom people commenting nonsense about electric buses blowing up. They are everywhere and have nothing better to do. Your article was amazing, don't let them hinder your work. Thanks, I don't do this for kudos or recognition, just to try and inform bus users about what is going on. I wouldn't say that article was 'amazing' though, just concise and to the point.
Quote from: BK63 YWP on May 11, 2024, 04:58:49 PMI wouldn't be surprised if AG gets some platinums to make the 4/A double decker moving some of the e200mmc to West Bromwich. But that's all speculation. The priority at AG is going to be getting rid of the older non-Euro6 Geminis, before they even think about moving out their E200s.
