Should now be sorted.

As of Thursday (21/11/2019) 4200 was not sorted - it still had paper in the windscreen and was merrily trundling around routes 47/48.

Noted the same day, Solo 2571 was also in service, on route 49, with paper in the windscreen and a blank front sign.
The picture in the link below was snapped by me, at 1255 hours, on 22/11/2019, on Saffron Road and shows bus 4200, working the 1230 route 47 from the city centre, without working destination equipment and a paper in the windscreen:

Looks like someone at Wigston depot has been telling porkie pies with regard to the faulted being 'sorted'. Running a bus in service in this condition for 8 days is a massive failing.

3 fires since 2015, poorly looked after buses (mainly the B7L's), with 66319 having an engine failure. Oil leaks on 4 year old Streetlites, in the form of 63350. 32644 and 32645 both always have their fans on, 32646 had a strange noise going through the bus from the electrics.

If this isn't proof our maintenance isn't on point, I don't really know what is. What are you, a driver or something.

A bus is a vehicle is which is subject to an incredibly arduous working life in the form of long days and difficult conditions in stop/start traffic, particularly in a city like Leicester. Good preventative maintenance (which First Leicester has) and drivers being on the ball (with first use checks and being aware of how their bus is behaving whilst out on the road) are two factors which deal with many vehicle related faults. You will never be able to deal with everything though.

66319 is an old bus, which has worked hard and owes the company nothing. Full on engine failures are incredibly rare. Sometimes oil leaks happen; StreetLites and StreetDecks are a relatively new vehicle type. As such experience is still being gained with them. Gone are the days when there are years and years of testing before a vehicle enters normal use, as per London's Routemasters in the 1950s.

32644 and 32645 have worn fan drives - when they're at this point the fans work flat out and lose the ability to vary their speed. No, it isn't the best because the engine is put under increased load, which in turn increases fuel consumption. They're not in any way unsafe though. Someone will be looking at cost of a new unit versus the age of the vehicle. Like it or not, it's an accountancy led culture at the moment, particularly in these unpredictable times for First. 32646? Well - who knows; electricity is generally silent though.

Finally, no, I'm not a driver. I'm a realist who is a little bit informed and aware.

That's a Sheffield vehicle, I'm guessing it's here for repair. Strange considering we've never had B9's, plus Leicester hasn't got the perfect record for maintenance does it.

Go on then, spill the beans with facts and evidence rather than making wild statements or are you just an armchair expert?

In reality, Leicester's maintenance record is rather good.

Bus 4200 at Wigston depot - for the last three days, this vehicle has been in service without operational destination equipment. Tuesday (12/11) and Wednesday (13/11) on routes 47/48, and, Thursday (14/11) on route 85.

On all three days, it has carried a printed, A4 sized route number in the windscreen, within the swept area of the wipers.

This is a totally non-compliant way to operate and not only puts the company's O-Licence at risk but also puts an element of culpability onto the driver, especially if he or she was to be involved in an incident of some kind or other.

Thanks for the feedback.  I was in Wigston yesterday and passed this all on.

Many thanks.

A couple more destination defects, both involving vehicles allocated to Thurmaston depot:

3810 - rear sign is not working.
4746 - rear sign is not working & half of front sign is flickering.

Why is Sunday vehicle allocation a problem at Wigston depot? Yesterday (27/10/2019), buses 4511 and 4515 spent the entire day on routes 47A/48A; both vehicles are route branded for the 84/85. Since the repainting of the 4416 to 4425 batch of E400s, and the removal of their route branding, they tend to wander onto other routes more.

Also, destination faults seem to take a long time to remedy, despite being a requirement of PSVAR legislation. Thurmaston's 2406 has been running around for many months with side and rear signs which do not work (it has missing reflectors on the rear too) and 2948, also of Thurmaston, has a side sign that does not work. It's been like that for well over 6 months! The offside front third of Wigston's 4217 does not work either.

You hate a company with a passion who are coming in to provide a commercial service, without public subsidy, to an area that First are withdrawing from? That's one of the most irrational statements I've come across! I'm sure you armchair experts have all the facts at your disposal such as revenue / passengers per hour / mile.

Meanwhile, 69382 and 69384 have arrived at Leicester's Abbey Lane depot from Cymru.

StreetLite 3305 was noted working out of Wigston depot, on route 49, on 11/09/2019. Looks like it has had a fresh coat of light blue paint.

A couple of ex Leicester buses on the move. 32064 and 32629 have transferred from Eastern Counties to Essex and are both allocated to Colchester. (Yes, before anyone pipes up, I know 32629 was new to Northampton, but it was later reallocated to Leicester.)
