Looking at NX website it says that passengers can only pay by cash for tickets. Why is this when ticket machines are able to take electronic payments?

Probably contactless wouldn't be valid as its not a regular service, you need a special ticket for it and normal daysaver not valid. With the ticket machines you can only purchase a standard NX adult daysaver using contactless.

Is NX's Tap & Go faster than the rival ticket machines (Ticketer)? 

If not, it doesn't seem very capable. Surely you could apply a different fare on certain services..?
