I travelled on KXZ 4299 on the 24th December on the72. This may have been the last day RKT and Discount operated the 72 as I didn't see any out on the 30th or 31st. KXZ 4299 was the only one I saw on the 24th.

I shall miss them on the 72. They seem to have been performing better recently and at least provide a bit of variation on the route, which otherwise seems to be all crimson Geminis.

If I understand these things correctly I believe the Volvos being parallel hybrids can operate with the batteries in a much poorer state because the engine can power the bus by itself without help from the batteries.

2202, 2229, 2225, 2226, 2219 and 2203 all on the 58 this morning so I assume it is still interworking with the 31. All seem to be running on time.

KXZ 4299 and KV03ZFS have been the vehicles used on the 72 recently with NA52AWZ being the Social contribution to the service.

I have been interested in the Birmingham areas buses for over 60 years now and, in my opinion the Tridents and Volvo B7TLs now being withdrawn are in the best condition of any withdrawn buses I can remember.

In an article about Wrightbus hydrogen deckers being supplied to First Aberdeen later this year in Coach and Bus week it says that they will be coming to Birmingham later. This should make the Birmingham to Solihull corridor very interesting if they run on the 4 with electric buses on the 6, Platinums on the X2 and 18 year old Volvos on the 5. Also for rail enthusiasts both loco hauled and multiple units.

The June issue of "Buses" had an article about the new Perry Barr garage stating that it would have provision for servicing 20 electric buses. Could this be a change of plan with the electrics going there and 7508 et seq going on the 6 at YW.
