Garage threads / Re: Birmingham Central Garage
May 11, 2015, 11:11:57 AM
I did look back through the thread but I can't find an answer...

It appears to me that at least one Enviro/(Possibly more) Enviro(s) have had 900 branding removed. Can somebody explain why please?

Thanks.

18/A - 873! (I went all wobbly when I saw it)

https://www.flickr.com/gp/92409298@N06/X7r8XE

I saw it too!!!  (Thanks for the pic)

EDIT: I did wonder if the vehicles would be useful for services like the 18A.   I'm expecting to see these on the 1 next.
(Did I post saying that somewhere or am I imaginging/dreaming I did?)

I caught 873 on the 2 today and agree entirely,

I also think that the short wheelbase is excellent for the routes they're operating.
I'm guessing eventually they'll find their way on to routes like the 18A or 1.

Only critisism is the fact that there are no front facing seats at the front, like the double deckers. :P

I CALLED IT!!

Apologies if it was mentioned before but I got lost with the thread; Why are 4616 etc in Coventry?

I had an unexpected trip on 4616 earlier today (Although I didn't manage a decent photo).

I'm going to have to do a double take when waiting for the 900 now...

Somebody in Pool Meadow (Coventry) photographing an Enviro I was waiting to get off at about 16:15 and  and there was a guy listing numbers by millennium place.

I personally found it noteworthy that a 13 branded enviro was on the 7 this morning (Tried to get a photo but failed).
Usually I thought morning peak 7's were Trident operated.

Then a 21 branded Enviro on the 7 this evening. (That itself is not unusual), however this is the first time I've seen two differently branded vehicles on the 7 on the same day!

1568 is now parked in front of 1656 on the Swanswell side of the depot.
Withdrawn then?

How many Merc's are left? When is 1678 likely to be withdrawn? (My favourite/best merc in the fleet).

Thanks

That's interesting! Take it you use Preston Bus a fair bit then? I'm surprised they'd pick a rock fm station...
True about checking emails etc on shorter journeys but it's far more likely on longer journeys.
I don't use the bus that much in Preston because for me most things are in walking distance (i.e being a student).
Rock fm isn't actually a rock station, its like Free radio here in the Midlands really, top 40 chart music and pop classics.

It surprises me that NX don't want to data harvest unlike a lot of other big companies... Perfect oppurtunity to with wifi.

I believe Preston Bus have even trialled music on buses, not sure how popular that has been though
I live in Preston when I'm not in Midlands...
Basically their system is just FM radio (Usually local station rock fm, played over a sound system. Ok quality, but not the same as having wifi).

Journey length to me seems unimportant, it takes merely seconds to load an important e-mail or check the news headlines.
Some people like myself have less data allowance.

More new buses is a good thing, but the lack of wifi is seriously putting NXWM behind in my opinion. Most of the routes are urban based so its not exactly difficult.

Can anybody answer the question of why new NXWM vehicles still dont have wifi?

Is it the additional cost?
Or is it for some other reason. Really its about time for it, its the only thing missing.

....Btw, I'm envisioning that in the future you'll be able to press the stop bell button from your smartphone.

This evening I managed to catch brand new enviro 200 874 on the 23 and I must say they're very nice buses indeed! They smell amazing and incredibly smooth! 9/10!

Yesterday I thought I saw a Gemini on the 4, and I'm certain I saw an 21 branded Enviro on the 23.

Joni got there first in the other thread. Sorry for wasting a post.

I love the Metrorider!

...am I a bad person?

Bit late in replying, but nope.

I used to love Blackpool Transport's service 2.
Lovely little bus ride into Lytham St Annes from where we used to stay in  B'Pool when I was younger.

Although, in the opposite direction, Knott End on Sea was not a wise idea haha!

I don't know what to think about the new vehicles since I havent travelled on them yet.

However, from the images I've noticed a few things.

Regarding the livery, I think the all over red looks smart, and I'm always in favour of route branding.

However, the style that has been used makes it appear cheap and tacky in my opinion, I think that's the real problem.
And also, NXWM seem to be branding every other route in green, sort of defeating the point.

As for the new vehicles, one thing stands out compared with the previous Enviro's; The frontmost upperdeck side window is no longer designed to be openable, although there's probably a reason for this change (Like cutting manufacturing costs)

Enviro's have much better upper deck ventilation than Tridents for example. And this seems like a small step backwards in the overall vehicle design.

I do like the vehicle styling though.

Mixed reviews from me based on the photos. When I'm back in the Midlands I might have an excursion out and see if the vehicles are actually better than I've probably made out here.
