Title: Yardley Travel 28Y
Post by: vinh1000 on February 22, 2013, 11:22:26 AM
http://www.yardleytravel.co.uk/Home.html

Can see that from Sunday 7th April YTravel will operate a 28Y service
Anyone ever heard of them? (even wonder what buses they might use and service hopefully not as bad as some other operators)

As it says on their website:-

"Our company has always been a family run business and has successfully provided coach hire for over 80 years. "

For many years they provided duplicates for National Express. I can remember one journey to Bristol in an ex Midland Red HHA---L Leopard.

I had heard of them but going back many years - I seem to remember they had a livert similar to Den Caney / Browns. I thought they had long finished operating.

The 'Y' suffix takes me back to the good old days of Travel YourBus!  :)

I assume this will run the same as NX's 28 route

There was an operator - Airshuttle UK - I think that ran on a section of the 28 route from Heartlands Hospital to ? Can anybody else remember this?

Be very intresting to see what buses they use,  hopfully if they make a good impression it will open up the possibility of expansion and 1) open up new compitition in brum and 2) bring back the Y prefix to the streets.

There have been a few operators that have tried there luck on the 28. None of them lasted that long & none of them exist now!
Not including central buses of course who still operate a section.
I believe previous operators include
Tame Valley, Burman Travel, Frontline Buses, Airshuttle Uk,Shuttle Bus Uk (who used the ex Blackpool rebodied Atlanteans if memory serves), Petes Travel. I think even Midland Rider gave it a go.
I hope Yardley Travel have done their homework , it's certainly not a route I would have chosen.

Every time I've seen a small operator start services on the 28 I always hope they'd make the most of it and run the full route to Scott Arms, always seen that as too good an opportunity to miss out on when NX stop half the buses short.
But then again there's always hope that that will be a thing of the past with the North Bham review

Quite possibly, several ex Paragon darts don't seem to have found new homes yet, just cannot work out which one it would be

Unfortunately 1 or 2 good trips don't make a route profitable, it's how it performs all day every day.
I'm not surprised really, nothing against Yardley Travel but the 28 just isn't busy enough without some other work to support it, like what Central buses did run around a school.
If you're going teething into bus operations you need to do it on something busier or ideally contract based.
The question now is will Yardley give up on the idea & sell the buses or will they try again elsewhere?

Steve I'm aware 1 or 2 good trips wont make the route profitable, I can only go what's posted on here as really visit that side of B'ham

It does seem a bit early to be making a decision about whether a route will be profitable or not. It does take a while for an operator to get established on a route.

One went past me earlier while I was waiting for a real 28 ("real" being one to Scott Arms, not trying to say a non NX bus isn't real just in case people take it the wrong way), hadn't been a bus in a fair while so imagined it to be full, but no one caught it and only one person was on it

They're no longer operating any coaches. I clicked on the link to there website at the start of this thread and from the website they appear to be selling clothes instead @Solo1
So they appear to have had a change of approach.

Just because the whois uses a masking service, it doesn't mean it's fake. The one for this website shows something similar, unless Tony's based in Panama!

Actually Tony's website is .com, not .co.uk ;)

Whichever way you look at it, that 'Yardley Travel' website is fake, no reputable online store would fail to list a business address. There are no terms & conditions and the Delivery Information page looks like its been badly translated from another language. I can guarantee that if anybody was to buy anything from there, they would not receive their purchase!

I have checked on Companies House, and Yardley Travel Ltd is still shown as an 'Active' company, although their registered address is presumably with their accountants in Edgbaston. According to the DVSA website, their operating licence was surrendered in 2015:
https://www.vehicle-operator-licensing.service.gov.uk/search/publication/search/?search=yardley%20travel&security=e445d00374ff4018c45cace638b0484e-a74a67c4a0f7bb2b8eb8d652aee98c51&text%5Bsearch%5D=yardley%20travel

What has presumably happened with the website is that they have allowed the domain name to expire, which means that someone else has registered it for their own nefarious purposes.

That is where Tony's hosting provider is based, you'll also notice the use of Domain Privacy Service. Not everybody is happy to have their name and address publically available in domain registration records.
