Hello All,

I only realized the CV Open Day was happening on the actual day itself. I suppose that is somewhat down to myself for not paying enough attention to the forum as due to my working hours, whenever I do see the forum, I find myself having to sift through various posts just to keep up to date.

My suggestion is that seeing as this was an "event", is it possible to add these into the Calendar tab. As of now, only birthdays are populated in it but I feel as though it would more beneficial if enthusiast events were incorporated into the calendar so they become more easily accessible, especially at a glance.

Just a thought,

Its a good idea, forum members have always had the ability to post events to the Calendar here, but no-one seems to use it, whether its just a case of people not being aware of it or not is another matter.

In other words, Aston Manor & Wythall events could be flagged up by your average poster?

Must admit, never used it!

I also wasn't aware of this.

My view is that a moderator should post events as it may end up becoming a race at to see who posts an event first.

In an ideal world, it would be the organiser of any event who would post it to the calendar.

But really, there is nothing to stop anyone from posting events, they are created much in the same way as forum posts, just with the addition of an event title and date, then select a forum board for it to appear in as a topic.

I'd just advise anyone to provide as much detail as possible regarding any event, and also include a link to any 'official' website for that event (if available).

Just tried one, for the next Aston Manor event, but they only tend to update Facebook!

That's fine, as long as there's somewhere for people to go to get any additional information they need.

By default, posting events will create a new topic in the 'General Discussion, Questions & Route Suggestions' board, but you can always select a different more appropriate board to post in, for example an Arriva open-day could go in that board, likewise a train related event could go in the Locomotives area.

If there's sufficient demand for this feature, we can always create a dedicated board for Events, if that keeps things tidy.

By far the best site for finding out about bus events is the one linked below. Regularly updated and doesn't seem to miss any. Everything known is listed so you have to read through it to find the Midlands ones

I regularly email details of events that I discover to the person who maintains this site dick@classicbuses.co.uk

Perhaps when others discover events not listed or are the organiser of events they could do email the details to Dick so more people are aware.

Good to see a suggestion of mine is being well received.

I seen an event for next month has been added as well. I would add, it might be worth incorporating nationwide events but I can't help but think that it would clog up the calendar, especially considering the forum is generally geared towards public transport in the West Midlands.

GeminiFan1991 - As long as classic buses website http://www.classicbuses.co.uk/events.html is updated (which it is on a regular basis) there is no need to duplicate that website's content on this forum.

That is quite the comprehensive list ! I can concede that it would be pretty pointless for replicate the information on that site on our calendar but I still feel as though we should add NXWM events.

The list of events presented on that site is pretty comprehensive, and is well worth most bus enthusiasts keeping bookmarked, however my personal opinion is that it is not presented very well and can be difficult to find events of interest, especially as it covers events across the UK.

I agree, while there would be little point in replicating all those events here, as this is after all "West Midlands Buses In Photographs" there is no reason why events in our region cannot be listed in our own forum calendar here.

As I stated earlier, my preference would be for event organisers to post events to our calendar, and to provide further details on what's happening (location, admittance price etc).

Event organisers would also be welcome to contact myself and I will post details on my West Midlands Bus Users website which will be shared on its Facebook page also.

The forum calendar is full of people's birthdays so useful items get lost in all the birthdays, which I could imagine that 99.5% of the forum users have got no interest in.
Apart from those who may want to use someone's information for other purposes - GDPR comes to mind here, are forum users aware that this information is shown to all users?
