except if any of the buses went onto the X51, which doesn't serve Perry Barr technically.

Technically it does now, the stop by the Alexander Stadium is closer to the historical centre of Perry Barr (st johns church) than Ome Stop..... technically... (being pedantic, sorry)

Copied from the WB garage thread, so it doesn't end up clogging it up with unrelated posts...

I wonder in time if the 4 will ever be upgraded to double decker operation

The reason the 4/H/M don't get deckers is something about the route back to garage has a low bridge or something if i correctly read on here?

This has been mentioned before and if I'm honest (and if it's true) i think it's a pathetic excuse. The buses are generally quite full every time i see them (apart from last Saturday to Merry Hill, which was weird) and could do with deckers, and nowhere on the route is stopping it. But because of a bridge between the garage and the start of the route, when there's a perfectly good alternative with no bridges, the service can only use single deckers? Even if there was an incident before, still sounds stupid.

It probably is true to an extent that Walsall don't want to increase the risk of a collision by sending double decks to Bradford Place. That said, the official route printed on running boards to get back to depot is via the ASDA, not along Bridgeman Street and I believe if they wanted to put double decks on permanently they would just have a push about using the correct route back to garage. On occasions before double decks have ventured into Bradford Place (and I'm sure at one point or other were probably the main allocation of some routes), in addition there is no bridge that would have restricted WB using double decks permanently.

I guess the main reason for it not being converted is that it would require 20 fairly new double deck vehicles, and on an overall six minute frequency is that sort of capacity increase needed on the route?

Ash

If 4/4H/4M was to be upgraded to double decker operation the frequency would probably be decreased to every 8/10 minutes with diamond at every 6 minutes it will allow more double buses to be on route compared to NXWM and the 4 service is usually the first bus at the stop gets the passengers so NXWM would lose out. Often though the 4 service is clogged up with 2/3 omnilinks stuck together. The same could be said with the 301 and even services like the 37 which people mentioned it was due to vandalism when actually blue diamond has a high frequency using the darts at the time so matched there service.

I have put this out there in the past, why cant the 4/4H/4M have deckers, nobodys ever said if it could or couldnt happen. Would ease the overcrowding and bunching issues and could possibly get a few new passengers using the bus,

Bob

Why cant deckers run from Bradford place?  The 404 was always metrobus/fleetline years ago as was the wolverhampton via stowlawn route!

Is there any deckers at WA to be used, without taking them off other routes I.e 77, 6 etc

Routes like the 10/A/40/1/69/70/A have spare deckers like the leather seated E400's so at least on sundays they could be used?

You mean a 48** Enviro400 ;)

Yes it was definitely 4869 as I remember thinking that was the same one that got onto the 69.
