National Express Coventry / Re: X30 Ansty Park

Quote from: Sandy Lane on January 04, 2024, 09:45:33 PMAgree fully but it's no good just sitting back to see what happens. Should TfWM be regularly setting up their marketing stall? There is more than one market to consider. Done right could see demand increase.

Bear in mind that Ansty Park is located outside the TfWM area - it is in Warwickshire.  While the X30 is aimed at and benefits residents in the WMCA area, so do (or have) bus services from the Birmingham area to places such as Amazon at Rugeley and Boots at Burton-on-Trent.

I believe that TfWM policy has, rightly or wrongly, been not to subsidise works (or schools) services for several years, and I cannot recall when Warwickshire County Council last subsidised a works service.  I'm sure both authorities would say that it is up to the owners or managers of Ansty Park - or employers there - to decide whether or not to fund a service.

LX17 is for the X17, which is run by (L) Leamington depot.

For most services, L=Leamington, N=Nuneaton and R=Rugby.  However, a few Nuneaton services (including the TfWM contracts) are E, and some services have no prefix letter at all.

No doubt there is a reason but I don't know what it is - must be for Stagecoach Midlands internal use.

Most (although not all) Stagecoach Midlands services appearing in Notices and Processings show a depot letter in front of the service number.  LX17 can be a bit confusing...

Quote from: Stu on January 03, 2024, 09:04:46 PMBBC 'ghouls'. :undecided:

Just had the following email from someone at the BBC:

Any interest in understanding the impacts of this 'anti-social behaviour' on innocent passengers being inconvenienced by this, or the bus operators facing bills to repair damaged vehicles?

No, just "got any videos or photos we can use?"

Disgusting. That's local journalism for you.

One can only hope that they are looking at the impact on passengers, drivers and bus operators, but I won't hold my breath on that.

Perhaps a response along the lines of "I haven't, but it would be worth you sending a camera crew there yourself"?

If what we read is accurate, they wouldn't have long to wait ...

Quote from: TheMidlandsTrident on December 27, 2023, 06:33:43 PMMake a new X1a service which is a super fast route from birmingham to coventry that bypasses all the stops as if it were a coach.

Run it every 20 minutes at the 10 minutes that the X1 doesnt run e.g

X1, 11:10
X1a, 11:20
X1, 11:30
and so on.

This would also help with the problem of having standees every journey pretty much.

I can understand this, but would a non-stop service would it meet its costs?  If the fare cap didn't exist, £2.70 for 20 miles would be a bargain.

My guess is that improving the X1 frequency is a more viable option for NXWM.  The X1 has alot of intermediate traffic which I expect makes a big difference to the bottom line.

Oh dear oh dear, as the Chuckle Brothers used to say.  I'm tempted to send Stagecoach a tweet about this.

There's one further error to come, as the Stagecoach notice advises "Birmingham routes 46 and 49  operating a normal Sunday timetable" on 1st January.  I presume "49" should be "A9", which runs on Sundays.

Bustimes shows that the 41 and 46 actually did operate on Boxing Day.

Although not included in the list on Diamond's website of services that would be running on Boxing Day, bustimes indicates that 50 Birmingham - Maypole actually operated yesterday.

Can anyone confirm?

I've just realised that today, Boxing Day, only NXWM have run to/in Stourbridge, Halesowen, Oldbury, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull - if I've got it right.

Also, like last year, NX Coventry has been the only operator running not only in Coventry but also Leamington and Nuneaton.  No doubt the lack of Stagecoach buses in Nuneaton has encouraged NXC to run the over full 20 route to Nuneaton today - on Sundays it only reaches Bedworth.

Good to see 4393 out on the 49 this Boxing Day morning.

I presume YW drivers still like Tridents? There are others out as well today.

Quote from: monkeyjoe on December 15, 2023, 08:33:37 PMI was just a Boxing Day timetables. Is it different rules for the Black Country garages not running late services out of brum city centre when the brum garages are? I thought bc pb and wa had the same management. Curious really.

I haven't gone through them all - there are alot (as the proof readers will know...), but the 9, 12, 51, 74, 87 and X8 at least will all be running into the late evening.

For Coventry last update looks like Motorfest in May 23?
https://www.stagecoachbus.com/regional-service-updates/midlands/coventry

I would have expected to see their Xmas service info up online by now?

Yes, I have noticed this for Coventry.  I suspect this is due to an error.

If you change the location to another town - such as Warwick - up-to-date updates appear, including Christmas services (the Birmingham services appear under Rugby - I know that garage operates them, but ...!).

Unfortunately, the only way of catching every update in Warwickshire is to change the town regularly between Warwick, Stratford, Nuneaton, Rugby and Coventry, as they often each have separate updates.

Saw E003 at Robin Hood Island on the 76 this afternoon heading for Northfield.  According to bustimes it did one round trip.

Two duties on the 60 and 703 were converted to double deck in September, at the request of TfWM, in order to cope with heavy schooltime loads.  This is when 10729, 10731 and 10733 were transferred to Nuneaton garage - the first DDs there for several years.

According to the Leicester Buses website (https://www.leicesterbuses.co.uk/electric) Stagecoach are expected to convert the 148 Coventry - Nuneaton - Leicester to electric buses in July/August 2024.

On service 85 and 85B, the Mon-Fri 1125 85 Coventry to Rugby and 1245 85B back to Coventry are currently normally double deck.  E066 was on them today.

Does anyone know if this round trip is scheduled to be double deck?
