They have gone to South Lancs Travel, I think they are also owned by D&G

Yes the MCV's are still with D&G, see this pic taken on Thursday.

The second one is on the next picture.

South Lancs Travel's livery is white, blue and yellow (http://www.flickr.com/photos/68628359@N04/8589704805/)
So I would think the OmniCity's will get repainted into fleet livery soon.

Good to see D and G back expanding again.

Bakerbus are part of King Long Group iirc?

Wonder what will happen to the Volvo B5LH's?

Will be interesting as I don't know what happens when GBF buses come to be sold when an operator is defunct. Guess they'd be popular if they ever came up for sale though!

I wonder if they might have had to pay the GBF money back when the route they were purchased for ceased?
;
Reported they have gone to Bullock's - who as far as I am aware only have one public service, which is already B5H operated and appears to operate solely for people who can't walk from Piccadilly station to Piccadilly Gardens.

I get the feeling that the farewell tribute to Bakerbus will be either much less elaborate compared to others or just non existent...

Thanks for the info on that one!

It's interesting though that D and G are back in the area in which they previously sold their operations to Wardle Transport/Arriva. They've got a new depot, operations are building back up after it did look as if D and G was just being gradually sold off bit by bit. Good news though as they're a good quality operator.

A solo, a cadet and streetlites acquired, at least the solo looks to have come from Tates Travel

Now DDA is met, D & G have a very modern operational fleet, even if some of it could well be leased. It's interesting some of the ex Arriva DAF deckers have already been withdrawn.

Sales of the MetroCity appear to have picked up quite well, with a few loyal customers building up, like GHA, Richards Coaches, Manchester Airport etc. Ironically it's proved more popular outside London than in London where it was actually designed for. Wonder if it's just come at the expense of the Versa though, like the Versa finished off the Tempo back in 2008/9 ish.

Apparently the Versa is now being billed as a premium product for very specific applications, the MetroCity is the bog standard product. Looks good though!

@DiamondDart - Yes the Optare Metrocity seems to have become a very popular vehicle. So far 73 of them have been built with many more on order. Also as you say it is now more popular outside of London than it is within London. It is certainly a very nice and smart looking vehicle. It would be nice if they made an 8.8m version. I wonder if D&G will order anymore. The Optate Tempo and Optare Tempo SR do not seem to be very popular anymore which is a shame.

@DiamondDart - Yes i see what you mean. But some operators might want to buy an 8.8m Door Forward bus (as the Optare Solo and Optare Solo SR are Wheel Forward buses). I think that if they did introduce an 8.8m version of the Optare Metrocity it could really help them compete with other manufacturers such as Alexander Dennis.
Title: Re: D&G Bus
Post by: PM on January 03, 2016, 05:20:57 PM
Optare with its lower volumes will always struggle to compete against ADL and Wright except in niche areas. The Solo was a niche that served Optare well until Wright made the WF StreetLite, the Tempo did ok as a relatively lightweight product but got outdated quickly despite looking nice. The Versa was lengthened and it's USP was low weight, Wrights took that on with the StreetLite MAX.

EV buses were a niche they did well on, hybrids likewise. They're obviously hoping the lower weight of their decker vs other manufacturers is enough to win them some orders!
Title: Re: D&G Bus
Post by: countryliner on January 03, 2016, 05:55:41 PM
@DiamondDart - Yes the fully 100% electric EV buses do seem to be quite popular recently. It would be great if more bus operators bought these electric buses.

Look what happened to DeCourcey once the funding for PRS ended, they finished up struggling to find work for electric buses. The technology's still really in test-phase and works in very specific applications, Arriva in Milton Keynes I believe have made it work with the charging points installed.

16s looked to be two Solos however did see a MetroCity leaving Hanley in the evening out of service and it looks like the PVR of the 16 is actually 3.

22 March 2018
Press release

To all our Customers and passengers.

Services may be retained but 8 week gap.  Councillors please think again.

D & G Bus Ltd feel it is important to inform our passengers with regard to the recent (last eight months or so) Bus Review which has been completed within Staffordshire by Staffordshire County Council.  As you may know the Council, like many others within the UK is 'strapped for cash'; and the Council needed to make significant budget cuts from 1st April 2018.  As part of the process the Council carried out a review of Bus Services across the County and from the 1st April 2018 some routes will face cuts or disappear altogether.  D&G has been very supportive of the Councils actions which, to date, have been well thought through.

As a business we understand that the Council needs to operate within its financial constraints and that savings needed to be made.  However, on Friday 16th March 2018 Staffordshire County Council have issued a relatively small tender - which is good news for D & G Bus Ltd as we may have more work.  But there is always a but!  Because the savings being made by Staffordshire are slightly better than they anticipated (presumably because of cuts to services on Saturdays and better prices from Bus Operators than they anticipated) they now have some money left to re-instate some of the bus services which were being cut.  Great news we hear you say.  Yes it is, well nearly!  Because of the bizarre procurement rules operated by the Council, whilst 'some' of these services may be retained there will be an eight week gap between when the services cease on the 1st April 2018 and may re-start on the 4th June 2018.

Perhaps Councillors do not realise that people rely on buses, and to have an 8 week gap will cause considerable inconvenience and distress. Why not extend the existing contracts to cover the gap and ensure that the maximum number of passengers are retained for the new services, which will help their longer term survival.

D & G Bus contacted Staffordshire County Council to ask if they could review the timing to ensure that there would be no gap in service we were told that: "The overall contract value mandates the council to procure in line with the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. These state a mandatory minimum time frame at which we have to advertise for. As this is a single stage invitation to tender (which has to advertise in Europe as well as the UK) we have no foresight as to who will bid and therefore the process does not unfortunately allow us to determine and agree alternative submission dates."

We do not agree with the above.  Bus Operators can provide tender prices quickly; the County can review and compare the prices; and then they can decide whether or not they can afford to retain the services or some of the services.  We accept that not all the routes on the list will benefit from a reprieve, but some might, and there is no reason why any gap in provision is required.  Staffordshire Councillors have turned what is a good news story into something else.

The routes under consideration which affect D&G Bus and our passengers are:
• 12 Longton – Barlaston
• 93 Biddulph Moor – Pennine Way

Common sense should prevail, not adherence to outdated rules.  Please contact your local councillor and local media to make your views known.

David Reeves and Julian Peddle, Directors of D&G Bus Ltd

Cadet 148 has been re-instated, presumably in connection with them taking on the Chester-Northwich 82 from tomorrow. I know 147 has been reported with Coastal Liner, but no disposals seem to have been reported by the PSVC for the others.

I believe there both commanders

Fleet list now updated, with 1 also returned to service - it is half-term in Cheshire this week, but I'm not sure if school work increases PVR or not.

31-3 show as branded for the 82.

Spotted a couple of Yellow Optare Versas from Bournemouth (including T20 TYB) in Longton this afternoon on delivery. Assuming they will be joining 26/27/28 at D&G in the weeks to come. On a somewhat similar note, 26 and 28 have been repainted into D&G red.

Now on website - one round trip plus a one way short in the afternoon to connect into the 841, which is now hourly following withdrawal of the 842.
At least 101 now has branding for the 841.

101 and 103 now carry route branding for the enhanced 841 service which started on 28th April. Use of Solo SRs on this service is a change from the 10.8m Enviro 200s which were the regular vehicles.

Does anyone who which of the IOM Streetlites 55 and 56 are in terms of previous reg? Probably too obvious to assume 55 is LMN331K and 56 is LMN332K? Saw 55 also on the 85 in Crewe today just before 2PM.

D&G have registered a 32 at short notice from 29 September to co-incide with Potteries latest round  of cuts, which sees their Cheadle shorts withdrawn, as well as the 101 reduced to half-hourly and early and late cuts on various routes.
.
However VOSA doesn't show any end points,  so perhaps they may have a go at running through to connect the 841 and Midland Classic?

Ex IOM Streetlites 57 and 58 are now in service from Crewe depot, as well as 55 and 56. Reg now are 55-58 DG55-58 BUS.
D & G have recently introduced an hourly route 38 shadowing the Arriva similar 38 from Crewe to Macclesfield running on the alternate half-hours. So we have a service roughly every 30 minutes. 55 and 56 at least are branded for this new 38. Not sure about 57 and 58. The four Streetlites were originally regulars on the 85 to Hanley but from observations we are now back to an assorted allocation.
Title: Re: D&G Bus
Post by: mikestone on September 18, 2019, 01:27:49 PM
Official fleetlist shows 57 also branded. 58 definitely isn't.
;
32 timetable now on website - most journeys are 32X omitting Kingsley, and inwards to Hanley are only six minutes in front of the Kingfisher (replacing Potteries 32) timings. Oddly they have a 36 minute layover at Tean, which seems just too short to run to Uttoxeter and back unless it interworked with the 841.

Sad news today. It was announced late last night that one of the former owners and founders of D&G Bus David Reeves, had passed away after suffering a heart attack.

I have known David for many years, and have always found him to be a complete Gentleman. It's not that long since he sold his part in D&G. He will be sadly missed.  This is from a post on Facebook

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. R.I.P David.

Staffordshire CC in their wisdom resurfaced the road under the bridges at Little Haywood which stopped the Arriva buses getting under them.  Arriva then re-routed the 825 from the Wolsey Bridge junction along the A51 to the top end of Great Haywood and then down through Gt Haywood, Little Haywood and Colwich to rejoin the A51 to Rugeley.  At the same time they reduced the frequency to hourly and introduced an 826 service that missed out the loop and went straight from Wolsey Bridge to Rugeley.
It was at this time that D & G re-routed their 841 to miss out Tixall and Great Haywood which now goes straight to Weston via the Tixall Road in Stafford and the new estates in that area.

Yes they did. It appears to have closed in 2015 along with a depot in Longton, maybe associated with the purchase of Arriva Wardle and returning to their Adderley Green base?

Stoke literally went full circle, with D&G's Adderley Green base being sold to Arriva/Wardles in 2011. Fast forward 4 years & D&G purchased the depot back when arriva decided to pull out of the Wardles operations. Talk about a comeback eh! On the topic of Spath, did Bakerbus ever use the site when they won the Uttoxeter 402/428 tender off Arriva in 2013? As Biddulph to Uttoxeter seems an awful long way to drive out of service!

May well be for Chaserider! It'd make sense for them to gain a few vehicles as they have had a fair amount of new work recently....

So by that you're suggesting they haven't got enough buses for the work they currently have? Don't forget they gave work away to Select Bus at the same time. Would hope they're going to replace Solos with these.

Chaserider have disposed of 2 darts today so the enviros could be a straight replacement.
*Just noticed that on quack77 they're saying they're on loan. Not that quack77 are reliable.

13/15 are 2 darts that have never been used since D&G took over Cannock, at least 1 of them has been raided for parts

Noted a D&G solo in Cannock yesterday with E2 on the blind. I have since discovered this is an Alton Towers employee service which serves Stafford, Cannock, Rugeley, and Uttoxeter

D&G doing Crewe-Stafford rail replacement with Versa.s - I hope this is sufficient as Avanti hve made no provision for West Midlands-Scotland passengers on the day before people are back at school.

I'd have hoped people wouldn't be relying on travelling at the last minute given all the disruption this summer.

Yes, I know I am expecting too much.

D & G Bus have registered replacement routes for three services threatened by the planned closure of Arriva North West's Winsford depot. They would replace the 31, 37 and 84 Arriva services.

Enviro YX16ODG appears to be the first addition to cover ex-Arriva work - 90 according to bustimes, which has ODJ as 91, but I didn't see that.

Looks as though Centrebus E200s 504, 505, 506, 530, 531 & 532 have transferred out of Leicester to D&G. Presumably as additional vehicle resources to deal with Arriva's retrenchment.

@Wba_lad 523 didn't break down it was the standby vehicle and wasn't needed all day hence why it didn't move from snow hill
