Problem is, it's not a good standalone route, when it was the 247/8 not only was it reliable but also offered people a wide variety of destinations.

Yes I agree. The changing of the 247/248 was one which hasn't really worked.

I remembered the 248C that used to drop me off at Halesowen ON TIME and before Birmingham Coach Company on the 9C

I think that there is too many concessionary passes used during the day on the 142.  However in the morning when kids have to go to school they pick up a fair bit of money. 142 is a long established route and was a shock to read the withdrawal. In my opinion they've took on too much work. They could have got a bus out early and done a few trips on the 142 before going onto the 17 for the rest of the day seeing as thought the 17 starts so late

That is definitely an option. Also with the 244 only being hourly between Halesoweb and the QE, and the 004 now out of Harborne there is the possibility that side of the route could have picked up.

On the news section for Tamworth changes it says 'Your Xpre55 (X55) is getting a makeover and continues to provide 2 buses each hour daytime Monday to Saturday to and from Lichfield and Tamworth fast along the A51, Lichfield Road via Hopwas' Maybe that makeover is some Eclipse 2s ?

According to Network West Midlands the 142 service is to be operated by Hansons??
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

Possibly. Combined Central and Hansons will maintain a rough 30 minute frequency.

I'm going off what Central Buses have published on their site

As far as I can find on VOSA, there is no Hansons registration for the 142
