My bit of helping BC over their current driver shortage involved a 97 duty this morning, didn't see anybody about anywhere!

Back to 22/23 and nice newer buses tomorrow afternoon

Driver shortages? Again?

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

Haha. Nice usage of onomatopoeia there!  Don't forget my offer via PM Tony if you've worked out how to do it yet  :) it'll use some of my time for a worthwhile task.

Sorry to be pedantic, but I think you mean alliteration, not onomatopoeia? Well done on spelling it correctly, though ;)

Hi Tone,

Just out of interest how many routes do you reckon you could comfortably drive in service around without getting lost or missing out any stops etc... Obviously there's the 97, 22/23 and 14

If there is a show up (spare) driver available they'll give them the duty. Some garages will move you up one on the duties. In some cases you'll get someone from the traffic offices out on the road, or garage driver training officers, or inspectors. I've even seen the training school instructors out on the road covering duties.

Saw one of WN's inspectors driving the 59 (WN) the other week so either short of drivers or he covered when a relief driver never turned up to take up on that journey

People like me or even directors like Simon can end up driving. I have just finished 17 Harborne.  Got the same duty again tomorrow

Hi Tone,

Good question. I have driven over 300 different routes but a lot were over 20 years ago, so I may be a bit rusty on them. Birmingham routes I reckon I could just jump in a bus and drive are

1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 11, 14, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 28, 33, 37, 46, 50, 51, 55, 56, 60, 65, 67, 71, 74, 75, 82, 87, 90, 94, 97, 101, 126, 900, 934, 997, X51.
Many other routes I would just need a quick look at a map to refresh my brain on where they go because it is either too long since I dove them or they have had changes.
These would be the
2, 5, 9, 27, 29, 31, 35, 45, 47, 58, 59, 61, 63, X64, 66, 72, 73
Some others I would need formal route training on would be the
49, 98, 99.
