They were
002 Weoley to Merry Hill
004 Harborne to Merry Hill
006 Halesowen circular
007 Bromsgrove to Merry Hill (which got split to be 217 Merry Hill to Halesowen and 007 Halesowen to Bromsgrove)

Some of you may also remember that back in the early 90s there was the

003 Halesowen to Hayley Green (direct via Hagley Road)
005 Halesowen to Cradley Heath via Belle Vale and Timbertree

They later used the 003 number again around 2003/4 time when one 002 an hour was diverted via Woodgate Valley South.

Diamond initially took on all ludlow routes but quickly withdrew the bits that didn't work for them.  004 was cut to run Halesowen to Harborne only which couldn't compete with the 636 which was extended to halesowen around the same time so was withdrawn.

The 006 was withdrawn but as this interworked with the 230 caused a number of reliability issues when the 230 was ran as a standalone route.  This was also withdrawn and

I also recall the 002 being reduced to every 30 minutes. This was  later doubled in frequency to every 15 mins and still continues to be a success.

Wasn't the 004 resurrected by Hanson's for a while?

Yeah and was probably part of Hansons downfall, takings on it were terrible. Why Hansons stuck with the route as long as they did I'll never know. I've done complete round trips on the 004 in Hansons days and not put a single cash fare in the vault. The 002 used to kill it between Halesowen and Merry Hill as well.

what routes are not long and complicated?
example: the 50 is pretty straight forward and a straight easy route down to Maypole

At a guess the 231 from Blackheath to Halesowen is quite simple there are a few left and rights from Long Lane Libary to the Picture House but over the years the route has been run equally sucessfully by West Midlands Travel, Hansons & currently Rotala.
