Four Mercs used today on 5 and 18/A.
A driver said he expected they would be used next week as more vehicles are required with University term Earlsdon peak hour shorts on 11U starting. Obviously it depends how quickly the ex Walsall Enviros enter service.

Withdrawn mercs 1570 / 1572 / 1703 parked at front of depot on Fairfax Street side presumably awaiting their last journey!

1703 must be a fairly recent withdrawal, just 4 left in service at Coventry (and in the West Mids as a whole). Can't be that long before they all disappear.

Am I right in thinking that with 1703s withdrawal, there are now only 'early spec' Mercs left in the NX fleet?

I believe so.  Sad times.
Don't you start.

Think I am right in saying only the four remaining Mercs [at the time of writing] and any remaining Plaxton Presidents in the 4023-4124 number range carry matching fleet number & registrations, in the older style. It would appear all other vehicles are either stored/withdrawn, acting as driver trainers or preserved. There are no others in front-line active service as far as I can remember.

I'd actually forgotten about the earlier batch of Tridents 4125-4224 which have Y-prefix registrations - but are without the matching numbers.

On the flip side - there hasn't been too many withdrawals of buses carrying the later two-letter area code [followed by two numbers to represent the time period of issue] registrations. Fire victims 4336/41 are obvious ones (and 4355 at some point I assume) plus demonstrators that have moved on. Whether stored Scania's 6022-32 will ever see NX service again is debatable I suppose.

If you want, you can count 4171-4174! Those are Y771-Y774 TOH

Ha, yes there are a few other unintended match-ups to be found, a-la 1756, 4302 etc. But alas only the last two digits.

Sad to read of 1703s demise, it was one of 8 or 10 Mercs to be allocated to PE back in April of 2006 lasting a couple of years until they were transferred to CV, have to say 1703 was one of my favourites from the later batch!
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).
