No trains running between Leamington Spa and Banbury, due to a landslip on the line following the bad weather.

Chiltern passengers travelling from Birmingham to Marylebone (and vice versa) are advised to use London Midlands service to/from Euston instead.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

The recommendation at New Street this morning was for XC passengers to Oxford and Reading to travel via Euston and Paddington, and for Basingstoke to Bournemouth passengers to travel via Euston and Waterloo.  VT, GW and SW were accepting XC tickets.

Yes, I heard that yesterday too.  A bit hard on passengers for Oxford, I thought.  It probably would have been quicker to have gone by Johnsons X20 to Stratford, Stagecoach 50 to Chipping Norton then Stagecoach Gold S3 to Oxford!

The landslip caused alot of lost mileage.  I went by train to Derby yesterday (via Lichfield as it happens, due to scheduled engineering works).  The train should have started at Guildford - it actually started at New Street.

It is the same area!  I went past there on Thursday morning on a Chiltern 168, and saw excavators at work.  My thought at that time was "it looks close to the edge - I trust they know what they're doing"

At least the slip hasn't gone on the tracks, but removing it will be a huge job.

I had a feeling it was Justin, I think it is a bigger job than first thought, at first they said the line would reopen on Tuesday but that's now been changed to the 8th!

Thanks for posting about this. I am due to travel to London on Saturday, returning on Sunday. With a little shopping around and a couple of restrictions, I've now got first class travel in both directions for just £11 more than the price I would have paid. 😃

trident4370

Haha no worries, glad you managed to get a better deal in time, demand will no doubt shoot up now along with the prices!

Gareth

It was worth paying for the upgrade. If I have to be forced into a cramped tube with questionable wifi, that will be even more cramped this week, I at least deserve a little extra leg room and free coffee and bag of crisps!

I think come Saturday you'll realise you made the right decision, I just hope Cattle class isn't as bad as we think it'll be!
