Has anybody got a list of services that Midland Red north ran in the Cannock area in the 1980s??? Im sure it was a hell of a lot more than Arriva do now! The only area they didnt run to back then was Walsall. I can remember a 154/ and an 874/875 but dont know where they went

From memory, the main Stafford route was 838. On the odd occasion I went there, it went up the Pye Green Road, diverting via Clarion Way, then cutting across somewhere to join the A34.

Was Rugeley X31 or 831, or both?

Cannock to Brum was 156, as I remember seeing one in Brownhills, but wasnt there a 154 too?

Wolves was 870/871/872.

Lichfield was 860 & 862.

WMT would have still been the 301/302 mainly into Walsall. When did the 951 group of services start

Bob

X31 was Handsacre-Rugeley-Cannock-Brum, till the mid 90s but around 1990 it went via A34 rather than the m6 ( why Arriva brought it back via the motorway ill never know, it was a total & utter disaster, despite being pretty well used) Dont know about 831. Im sure the 870 used to go to Hednesford ( similar to the sunday version now, but everyday), there definetly was an 874/875 the 875 usually had Leyland Leopard/Duple WCK-V coaches on it. There was a lot of minibus services too. Im sure there was an 863 as well, it went past the fire station but i seem to have a memory if WMT/WMPTE running that, with Nationals.

From an old timetable dated June 1984, MRN operated the following services from the cannock area
X60  Wellington-Wolverhampton-Cannock-Lichfield-Nottingham
X30/31 Rugeley-Cannock-M6-Birmingham
X55/56 Cannock-Boney Hay-Birmingham
154/156 Cannock-Aldridge-Birmingham
833/6/7/8 Cannock-Stafford
845 Cannock-Rugeley-Abbots Bromley
860 Cannock-Burntwood-Lichfield
862 Cannock-Rawnsley
866 Cannock-Wimblebury
867 Cannock-Norton Canes
870/1/2 Cannock-Wolverhampton

Thanks. There were a lot of Brum routes! I wonder if theyll run the X56 back to Cannock when they properly take it over from Midland? Itll probably run from Delta Way. Less dead running. The 866 is prob equivalent of the midland 23/a now. Fancy running a Cannock to Abbots Bromley service...

Bob

What was the difference btwn X30 & X31? Later still around deregulation there was an X1 between Cannock & Brum via Walsall also. I bet that X60 was handy for a fast bus btwn Cannock & Telford

As I was born in the 90's the only old routes I remember are
4 Cannock - Stafford - Stafford D.G.H
19 wich was Cannock - Hednesford via Wimbulebury
22 Cannock - Huntington
23 Cannock - Heath Hayes
24 Cannock - Norton Canes
25/26 Pye Green Circular (The Branded Mercs)
27 Cannock - Delta Way
29 Cannock - Rawnsley
31 Cannock - Rugeley
32 Cannock - Shoal Hill
33 Hednesford - Brownhills
35 Hedmesford - Cannock via Rose Hill
36 Brownhills - Norton Canes
156 Cannock - Birmingham
860 Cannock - Lichfield
862 Cannock - Lichfield
863 Lichfield - Prospect Village
870 Cannock - Wolverhampton
873 Cannock - Brindsford
878 Cannock - Featherstone

I think the 951 group of routes started around late 1987/ early 1988, what was the difference between the 301 and 302?

301 was mainly the a34, apart from the Bridgtown diversion.

302 is the same as the current Sunday 2 except the route between Bloxwich & Walsall.

Did both routes get to Hednesford via Pye Green or just the 301?

Did the other route operate via Huntingdon Terrace Road, or am I confusing that with the later 345/349?

Bob

I remember the 345, between walsall and cannock it was similar to a 33 today!
