Title: Birmingham BusBash - Sunday 10th September 2017.
Post by: 2206 on August 26, 2017, 10:57:01 PM
A free 701 shuttle service will operate between Smallbrook Queensway and Cannon Hill Park, every 30 minutes.
Other services to the park include the 1, 45, 47 and 35. Plus theres the 63, 144 and X61 a bit further away on the Bristol Road. If you are using the Harborne or Hagley Road service, you can change at Five Ways for the 1 to the park.

Should be a good event this and hoping it's well attended! Credit to all involved with organising it! There's also the On the Buses event at SVR so a busy weekend for enthusiasts! Plus Showbus the week after!

I should be able to make it to this one, had to miss the Pensnett open day since it clashed with a WBA fixture. I likely won't use the shuttle though, as it's easier for me to go 126 > 11A/C > Bristol Road.

Just seen a new post on the NX Historic Society and Yardley Wood Bus Club facebook page that says a shuttle bus service will also be operating from Bristol.
QuoteWe have had a request from the 1910 Group.
We're bringing R910 BOU, and will be running a shuttle from Bristol. It'll be departing Bristol fashion (outside Beefeater), time tbc, but it'll be around 7:00am so we can arrive in Birmingham around 9:00am. Asking for donations for fuel, around £10 if possible, as without it we can't afford to do these events. If you are interested please contact:-
info@bh1910.co.uk
https://www.facebook.com/1910Group/
PLEASE show these guys some love and SHARE the post!!
Anyone living in or around Bristol and are interested in coming to our event, drop them an email.
Thanks everyone :)

I (hopefully!) should be able to attend. I'll catch the 35 to Willows Road and walk down. When done I will catch the 1 to Five Ways.

I'm hoping to use two reserve fleet Tridents on the shuttle, so it may be the last time they are ever used in service

A mk2 B7RLE
An E200MMC
A Trident
A Volvo B7/ALX400
A Volvo B7/Gemini
A Scania Omnicity
An E400 (crimson)
An E400 (new Coventry)
A StreetDeck
An E400MMC Crimson
An E400MMC Platinum
A Daimler CVG6
A Mercedes Citaro
A Volvo B5LH/Gemini
An E400H

So at least one of every type of vehicle currently in passenger use in the West Midlands fleet

Will any of the training trident's be getting a conversion similar to the Metrobuses, where the staircase is removed and replaced with a window?

Steady on chap, not everybody has the time or inclination to read every post on this forum. I myself tend to avoid the training buses thread as far as possible as I have no desire to know that a Mercedes trainer has been seen on Bloxwich High Street.

There's adequate space on modern buses to fit the training seat without completely blocking the aisle where there wasn't on Metrobuses. This is because DDA buses have to have a certain width entrance and aisle for wheelchairs

If all goes to plan the company line up of vehicles will be (in this order)
6832
61xx (from YW exact number not known yet)
477x (from CV exact number not know yet)
4738
5416
55xx (from BC exact number not know yet)
4527
3301
428x (from PB exact number not know yet)
4125
478x (from PB exact number not know yet)
18xx (from BY exact number not know yet)
2026
17xx (from WA exact number not know yet)
22xx (from AG exact number not know yet)
831
6020

As well as being a unique line up of all 16 types of bus currently in passenger service with NX individual parts of the line up will include E400s side by side in three different liveries, all three types of Wrights DD body side by side. double and single deck Scanias together, rare chance for both types of E200 side by side, both types of Hybrid together, and bith types of ALX400 together.
3225 will also be attending as the control point as will new training livery trident 4131 as a recruitment vehicle.

The shuttle service will hopefully be reserve 4181 & 4183 so possibly last chance to ride on those two vehicles. 4181 hasn't moved for two weeks, so not definite on that one!

Where else do you want it publicised?
NX themselves keep putting it on facebook & Twitter. It is on their website as well. They got the Express & Star to run a story about it this week. The Yardley Wood Bus Club (co-organisers) took an advert out in buses magazine. A lot of buses have passenger information notices on advertising it.

I'm fairly impressed with this turnout and kudos for NX for making this happen. I hope to be their and I reckon this will make for quite the sight. I sense a new banner for the site !  ;)

Is PN's limited space a factor for why this didn't happen at the open day or with this happening on a Sunday (Extra vehicles can afford to go), and/ or this such an occasion why NX have decided to almost go all out ?

Aston Manor have mentioned on their Facebook that they wont be sending a vehicle as they will have their own event on.
A pity as JOJ 222 would have been very welcome, I am sure!

Managed to pop down for an hour or so. I was hovering around 4527. Got the electrics on and was dabbling with the destination, Outer Circle and JLR displays I put on. Also put V Festival on the Streetdeck.

I think I may have seen @John, not sure though.

First event I've gone to since YW in 2008. I'll definitely be attending more. Very nostalgic with the Gemini as a former driver and of course the Metrobuses. First time I've been on board 3225 as well. Not sure if it was someone on here who was manning 3225.

Met Mr Walcott after a while an all.

I was on 4527. But it was stuck on the 58.
Got aload of photos of 1415 displaying the 33. Very nostalgic. Played with 6832 and managed to get the 52 on it. Good day apart from the brats who were constantly beeping the horn on 5514.
Weirdly got told off for going on 4282 even though there wasn't any 'no entry' signs.

I wanted to get onto the MMCs and display X2 on the Platinum and X12 on the Crimson. Then I seen the no entry sign lol

When was you on 4527?

I was on 4527 most of the time. I left at 14:02.
When I was leaving they were putting no entry signs on the E400's. The wayfarers were constantly breaking. I thank that one brat who gave me a headache for beeping 2201 and 5514 to death.
I wanted to go on 6020 but it was a no entry. 2201s Hanover was in a weird place.

I went onto 1750 to display some Walsall routes up for a disabled person who wanted photos of them and couldn't put them up. I noticed people hogging around the back of the vehicles.

I did from the around 11am departure from Brum till around 1230, then had a mooch towards the Mac, getting a Bear code, then went to the Cricket Club, to get that Bear then caught a Pershore back into town, for a mooch round there.

I think I saw you @MW as I walked past one time. I took most of the ticket machines out of the buses to stop people constantly printing test tickets, and put them on the cab floor. Also saves ticket rolls been nicked

Really enjoyed been a part of it rather than just going to look around too

I was there from 11 and the turnout was good. The lineup was impressive and somewhat cleverly thought out, with types of buses grouped together. It was good seeing an Omnilink and Omnicity next to each other although imagine seeing a B7RLE Mk1 & a Gemini together or a B7RLE Mk2 & a B5 together ! The paint job on the training vehicle was immaculate. Many adults were seemingly reminiscing seeing the older vehicles there. The oldest bus I remember being in service was a Metrobus on the PB28 !

Kudos for NX for allowing their vehicles to attend. I look forward to the next event.

Yes a good line up, but for an old codger like me I was a little disapointd that there were no vehicles in the former municipal liveries, apart from the BCT vehicles, of course, and Walsall 116. Also nothing to represent Midland Red...

There are quite a few drivers who are enthusiasts at Worcester garage so I am sure if this happens again, First would send a bus (probably the Midland Red liveried Trident) to represent that area.

First Worcester were at the Bewdley rally today. Streetdeck 35158 was in attendence. Perhaps they couldn't make 2 different events on the same day

The only noise I heard was the NX driver trying to start the Arriva bus and instead finding the alarm

Really? Letting yourself in to 5514 to change all the destination boards, you did it at pensnett also. Don't see me getting into the cabs and beeping the horns.

Though ringing the garage by accident in 865 on pensnett was my bad....

No it wasn't. You constantly were on 5514 beeping the horn, you did the same once you entered 2201. Was it you who told me to 'have a good day' aswell? lol. I got into the cabs and put up some different Destination boards, but I didn't touch the horns. Thanks for giving me a head ache.

Beeping the horns was wrong.
I never sat in any cab, although I did sit on some buses (standing up all day did my legs in).

Im sure a driver sitting on one bus said it was ok to change the destinations, but people weren't allowed to beep horns.
I believe it was the driver on the E400H that said that, especially since he helped someone with the displays at least once.

I was allowed. But I think beeping the horns was just naughty. I sat in the cabs, but I never even wanted to touch the horns. I was more interested in getting photos of the interiors. 3301's cab is nice.

Yeah I agree, messing with the horns is wrong.

You're like me then, because I mostly wanted to get cab photos at Pensnett and also change a few displays.

You certainly were allowed to sit in them, I never said you werent. After all, it was a driver that said you're allowed.

Metrobus 2462 which is privately owned, when left unattended had a broom handle, used as a fuel dip stick across the doors to stop entry.

Someone pushed the doors so hard they snapped the broom stick in two.

Who do these people thing they are that they can force their way onto unattended private property?

Now that is completely inappropriate. People shouldnt even attempt to enter a bus if they don't have permission. It clearly said no entry on it.
I hope no one tried to enter using the emergency exit.

People were entering the Citaro and the Diamond, even though there was signs clearly saying, No Entry! It makes me wonder if some people were half asleep. People were pulling the Scania doors so they could enter them.
I'm starting to think Mr. Horn Beeper was to blame for forcing 2462's doors to open.

I know exactly who started 4407. He most certainly is 14.

The staff were alright with you entering the Citaro as long as they were there, because I had a discussion with one of the drivers. Explaining how the mirrors will go inwards in the case of a collision.

I only went on three NX buses, and all of them were when staff were on board. I never entered the cab area though, I just stood at the doors and also sat on the two front seats on the E400MMC.
Never went on 4282 or 4125, though.

The signs were on earlier, although someone came over to the Citaro and asked if they wanted it cable tied.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself at this event; it's sad to hear the minority of people who ruin it for the rest of us. :( Where has the respect for other people's property gone? I feel like there is an unspoken etiquette whenever these events take place that some people need to educate themselves on. I just hope it doesn't affect the chances of this becoming an annual event that I could look foward to!
