Question for those in the industry.

Is it a legal requirement that the drivers cab must have a direct or indirect view of the entire bus INCLUDING upstairs?

I.e should one of the monitors on a decker be showing the camera view upstairs and must this be constant and not "cycling" through different cameras?

Now as far as I'm aware and according to NX training at Walsall, this is the case. Is this a legal thing or is this simply company policy?

If you're not in the industry please do not comment.

Note: this is not NX related. I'm only quoting NX as I was trained by them. This is something another driver has asked me and I'm fairly sure that it is illegal to drive in service without a view of upstairs (including cycling cameras).

The Archive / To the moderators

To the moderators,

You introduced an 'ignore' function so that we could ignore this guys silly threads. What was the point if he just keeps making new ones.

You've messaged plenty of old standing members and named them saying that they're on their last warnings. Will you now message this guy to remove/discipline him? There's clearly an atmosphere on this forum down to your tolerance, which is an injustice to the members who actually contributed to making this forum a success over the years. Will you now finally remove him and this forum can continue how it was before?

Just been doing a bit of reading on the WMCA website. I've heard before about how child fares are subsidised by Centro/TfWM/WMCA, but I've never quite understood it. Perhaps some of those in the industry can shed some light on the subject.

https://www.wmca.org.uk/media/1360/201617-child-scheme-reimbursement.docx

https://www.wmca.org.uk/media/1361/201617-child-concessions-scheme.docx

So my understanding of this is that the scheme tells the operator to charge children between the age of 5-15 approximately half of the standard adult fare. The operator can then claim back the difference between child fare and full fare from TfWM.

The links go on to talk about the formula used to calculate reimbursement.

A lot of the information on there is basically jargon to me. Could anybody shed some light onto how the scheme actually works?

It was mentioned in another thread that operators receive around 96p per concessionary pass. Does that figure apply here too?

National Express West Midlands / Fare/coin chute
September 16, 2018, 12:00:44 AM
Does anyone know the manufacturer of the coin/fare chute system NXWM use and the vault, or are they bespoke? I'm sure Nottingham City Transport use a similar system too

What is the correct term for where you put the money?

Just out of interest this. I've always toyed with the idea of setting up a bus/coach company. It'll probably never happen, but I just wanted to know what people think of this, in terms of would it be viable in the West Midlands. I look around and smaller operators being swallow up by larger companies, such as Diamond.

Is this not a market worth competiting in? (I.e. are the margins THAT low, in reference to the death of Central Buses & Hanson's).

On the other hand, the lower quality smaller operators are still around (for now) such as the Social/DTS/Sunny group of companies and I'm sure there's one in Wolverhampton.

I just wanted to know what people on here think.

A white Dart with an LED number repeated on the rear. Also a red Abellio London dart with dual doors and still with Abellio logos and Cleaner Air for London logos with 'N90' on the destination... both of these spotted on Yardley Wood Road going towards Sparkhill a few moments ago.

The red Dart's number plate began with KP02 ???.

Whose are these?

Solihull Town Centre is a car (bus) park today. All buses waiting time in the Town due to the Station being closed for roadworks.

Elderly guy taking pictures of buses on Station Road today. Anyone on here?

Not sure if anyone has seen the above video. Basically a breakdown of how they fit the mods. Buses featured are 4524, 4525, 4526 from what I can see.

Some top passengers we get on the old Outer Circle. This is why it'll never get new buses again 😂

National Express West Midlands / Platinum Rant

Anyone seen this? At a guess it's a PN/WA/WN one due to the accent?

Seems to be a Internet outage in my area. So out of boredom, I started messing about with paperbuses.

Thought I'd share in case anyones interested. I used to be a lot better with graphics a few years ago, so excuse the cowboy job. There isn't a livery easier than Diamond lol.

I've noticed some of these around Birmingham now. How much would these guys have spent on these refurbs? They literally look brand new, yet they're 17 years old. One of the most extensive refurbs going it seems.

I remember seeing some Geminis with Gemini 2 fronts. Does anyone have a link to a photo of one of them Geminis before and after?

Admittedly, I'm not very knowledgeable on the coach network of NX. My question is, why doesn't NX run services that depart from Birmingham/Wolverhampton/Coventry through NXWM? I know they have a few boards run from Walsall already, but that was due to a contract loss wasn't it?

Surely it'd be more cost effective if more work was run in house as oppose to contracted out?

Wouldn't a garage such as BC be an ideal depot to take on NX work?

Apologies if I'm missing something

I've just noticed, LS or Liverpool Street hasn't been around for a while. Wasn't he an admin? What happened to him?

First / Midland Red (does Hereford come under MR?)
October 19, 2016, 10:46:37 PM
Hi,

Just having a look at the First Midland Red fleet list. The depot allocation isn't included in the list. I always thought First kept both Hereford and Worcester rather than just Worcester, or am I confusing this.

Can anyone confirm whether they are still one operation, and know the link to an up to date allocation list?

National Express West Midlands / Routes 58 & 59
September 16, 2016, 08:32:51 PM
Just a quick question.

Does anyone know if these routes are restricted to single decker (especially the 59). I can't remember if there's a low bridge. I can't remember seeing a decker on the 59 before (how similar is this route to the old 590?)

Also, how busy would people reckon these routes are (between Yardley and either Kingshurst / Solihull). Obviously those of you who use these routes regularly will know.
