Platform 4 was still out of use last night, LM trains that normally start from Platform 4 were using 2 instead. This was causing minor delays as Platform 2 is usually busy with southbound trains. From just checking the departure boards it looks like this is still the case.

All services using the Bham New St-Wton line are diverted via the Chase Line as far as Bescot Junction and up the Willenhall line (the one used by the parliamentary 0638 Wton-Walsall service). This means that Sandwell & Dudley won't be served due to a fatality at or near Dudley Port.

It's either someone has thrown themselves in front of a train or as and @Alex where old trespassers on the line!

It is due to sit at Exeter for 34 minutes and Plymouth for 29 though!

The sleeper is also only timed for 80 mph to give a smooth a ride as possible, but is allowed to run at 95mph when late, so some people may have had a few more rocks & bumps than normal.

It's not just about train crew knowledge. It's about the availability of paths that can be used to divert, and then the impact on other services if that is to happen.
Title: Re: Accidents/incidents on the railway
Post by: mikestone on September 18, 2016, 02:20:12 PM
It isn't about paths - they often go ECS which can only be because the guard isn't right. If paths over the grand junction were a problem then VT would be sitting at Rugby!
Title: Re: Accidents/incidents on the railway
Post by: Stuharris 6360 on September 18, 2016, 08:53:37 PM
It's more often, route knowledge, if there was a problem between Smethwich GB amd Snow Hill, the service would be scuppered because Snow Hill line drivers don't know the line between Smethwich & New Street.
Title: Re: Accidents/incidents on the railway
Post by: T840MAK on September 18, 2016, 10:44:18 PM
You seem to have misunderstood me - paths is an issue, as a line only has a certain amount of capacity - obviously if every service is diverted then there's not going to be enough paths to cope with it. That's why usually when a diversion is required, the bigger trains are diverted and the shorter ones are cut short.

With route knowledge...VT sign Bescot, ATW don't, LM Birmingham do, LM Crewe (who work most the Liverpool - Birmingham) don't.

I should hope ATW do sign Bescot as the 1921 Holyhead to New Street is booked that way...

Over the years ATW have gone to a great deal of trouble to maintain route knowledge via Bescot. LM Crewe guards not signing via Bescot is nothing short of ludicrous.
;
There shouldn't be any problem diverting via Bescot - if the WCML is blocked they don't thin the service and freights are diverted too

Some reports say body parts in bags found on railway. Lets not jump to conclusions...

No issues coming into New Street from Soho, so that side seems fine.

323216 reported going to Liverpool, presumably as a result of stock disruption - I believe Wolverhampton work all Sunday trains, even to the extent of going passenger to Crewe to work the Sunday starter, against all diagramming principles.

  mmmmmm.......TFL class 345 unit opened passenger doors on the wrong side at  Stratford on Friday morning (18th January) @ 09.30am   with the platform side locked. Fortunately no one leaning against it at the time as the consequences  could have been unimaginable . both platform and unit taken out of service pending investigations.
     Possible fault with ASDO  system  is there a similar system on the Midland metro? or are the doors operated by the driver? :-\

All doors are opened by the driver or guard except possibly on Thameslink core. As far as I am aware all ASDO does is confirms that the train is in the right place - some stations have reminder boards to open the doors on a particular side so presumably doesn't manage which side the platform is.
;
In any case I don't think CL.345 doors normally open automatically, although they may have the option for the tunnel section.

66057 through the buffer stop and in the dirt at the end of the bankers spur , Bromsgrove.  Ex-works 66175 was attempting to haul the offending loco back around 15.30 , still trying at 16.00 !!

I believe it may have clipped a cross country 170 as well

On a closer look at the photo I took on my mobile phone , 66057 looks to have slight damage to the rear drivers side cab pillar as well as a cracked windscreen. I would assume that by the time I saw the incident that 66057 had been slewed back over to get it in line with the tracks of the spur.

It seems that the bridge over the river Blyth for the Coleshill-Nuneaton line got damaged today. I'd guess through weathering, as there's no roads near to it.
