Why sell 30013 Y3NBB to Select, then take 30384 V384SVV. If 30013 was surplus to requirements, surely that would have fitted well in the KR fleet with the JNF's.

Have any repainted B7RLE's re-appeared at Redditch yet, haven't seen any reports on here and your sighting is the first of the VDL's, looking at the fleet changes there are 4 now at RH
Appears to.be a second VDL on the 60 or 61.

It will be good to finally get all of the RH fleet in Diamond allover blue. Pity the allover red couldn't have been retained for the Worcestershire operations though.....
30850 has been pressed into service on MPD route 64 ... With the amount of buses dropping out of service there are massive gaps appearing on track with several mpds floating about on it

Presumably as the 64 starts after most 57/8 duties would come out so perhaps 30850 was not then ready for service.
Do the repainted VDL/centro's and 30850 look smart? Are all logos etc applied or have they been rushed into service?
They do look smart and all have logos (VDL/Centro body has different glazing to the Man/Centros so do stand out compared to them)

Just caught the 146 into town due to London Midland being useless on the X City again, and hadn't appreciated the fares have been reduced into Birmingham, only £1.80 from Cotteridge. Like it was when First ran it as their fares were cheaper. Shame it wasn't a Citybus though!

The thing is, they come in different sizes. Larger solos are fine though I do agree they feel more cramped than for example a Dart. Maybe not the 10 with a solo but I have been on a busy 3 service operated by YG02 DJZ. I think solos are fine when used on appropriate routes, for example I have had many pleasant journeys on both First and Western Greyhound vehicles in cornwall. Tiny solos run the 6 service to Mousehole and these are great vehicles for the service, from a passenger point of view I sadly find them better than S526 RWP which also runs that route. However a tiny slimline WG Solo on a full and standing 524 to St Austell is absolute hell!
Apart from the seats being so tired you hurt your back on the frame I can't really think of anything wrong with the V-HEC darts from a passenger point of view.

Only I was over in Redditch for an hour and a half yesterday and didn't see a single one. Usually, in that time at least 1/2 are in and out on the 51/5/6.

247 seems to be mostly Streetlite now a days, 51's booked all day bus tends to be a Centro, 55, 56 interwork with the 70 too, did you pop your head over the wall and look into the depot?

The 247 I saw was 30801 and the 70/55/6 looked to be solid MAN and VDL centros. I did look into the depot and couldn't see much but MPDs and the odd decker.
Maybe it's just bad luck, only I was surprised as last time I went over there, they all seemed to be on short town routes so most could easily be seen within an hour.
The 146 looked to be b7rle's with loads busier than before the timetable was sorted out. The 57/8 was enviro300s, b7rle's, the odd VDL centro, 1 dart but didn't see any SJ04 eclipses either.

I had said that in the highlighted bold screaming red section above. The reason for leaving off the 3/X3 as the are only Redditch routes due to First having KR closed on Sunday and at the moment Rotala West Midlands has no plans to open it just yet on a Sunday. So barring that in mind Monday - Saturday a Streetlite in KR is rare so the 3/X3 would be excluded. But by say what I did it got included.

Tho that E300 is jumpy and bangs, when I got off I saw why there was banging, the back of the bus needs new suspension. Not a surprise to me as it was worked hard at the Eden Project in St Austell in a former China Clay Pit as a park and ride bus.

Just sitting in Redditch Bus Station while my car is having work done and just looking at the fleet operating round here its no wonder Diamond have been banned from bidding for Worcestershire council work

I saw those, but I read it are fire dropping out the back window. It does say the bus had only just pulled up at school empty. So you may well be right.

Forget NXWM this is a Stagecoach job they have the resources and buses spare for this with there depot in Statford on Avon they could turn it round and make Redditch a nice little earner without even having a depot in the town at first.

If Stagecoach were interested in Redditch, they would have acquired it from First instead of Rotala. Stagecoach have bought the majority of all businesses sold off by First. Stagecoach weren't even interested in taking on Hereford

I seen one on the M40 yesterday near Banbury. I was heading towards London and it was heading towards the Midlands. Couldn't ID it but it looked fresh. Wrightbus deliver up North though don't they, so it wouldn't make sense.

Yeah I've not got a clue what the plate was. It did say Diamond Bus on the display as well. I was doing like 120mph so didn't really see it properly.

Well according to Simon Dunn it's 32214 that's what he told me in a email on Monday. But I did see SO65LRZ last week in Redditch and it still didn't have any fleet numbers on it neither did SO65LRU which Simon says is 32217.

They've recently hired a new General Manager for Redditch so I suspect he is having his impact on the garage.
That will be why all of a sudden I started seeing the same buses on the 146 every day! I suspect other routes will get an allocation too then. Another route that now has an allocation that didn't before is the 57/8 that now have the newish Streetlites.

Hopefully he can turn Redditch around, it has the potential to be a decent operation, cheap fares, low car ownership area & bus friendly with numerous bus lanes etc. He just needs to get the travelling public back on side by providing a higher quality / reliable service, then hopefully patronage will grow as a result. It will definitely be a challenge, but will also look good on his CV if he can pull it off, KR seems much better. I just hope he sticks around longer than David Squire

That's all well & good, but what about Tividale? It has the largest allocation, is home to Rotala HQ etc etc. The average age of the Redditch fleet was already way above Tividale & Kidderminster even before these transfers

True, but if it is your operation in Redditch that is getting all the attention for the wrong reasons, whether it is from social media users, or journalists from the local press, it makes sense to concentrate on that operation.

Having a modern fleet only at Redditch is not going to solve the various issues, they are deeper rooted and involve operational & engineering. Operating an older fleet can equally present a good image, as long as vehicle presentation both internal/external is high, accident repairs are completed to a high standard & they are well maintained to ensure they perform reliably. Preston Bus is a good example, standards of presentation are consistently high no matter the age of the vehicle.
Tividale is losing its newest buses with the next newest buses being the 4 x 13 plate B7RLE's, even these are starting to look a little battle scared of late.

Ex Wessex Streetlite WF 20974 MX60BWU is now in Diamond blue livery. It's on the Asda service today. Also the 2 ex Wessex DF Streetlites (30528-SK63KOA/30529-SK63KOB) are out today on the 57/58 (they are still in complete Wessex livery with fleetnames etc)
Diamond WM Hybrid Optare Versas are all due go off lease by April 2017 and I presume it includes exPreston 30131 as it was part of the 12 plate batch and not the 61 plate batch like the other 6 that were new to Preston. I have been told this info by Simon Dunn.
I didn't know the Versa's were leased k take it the Streetlites from wessex will replace them

32307 is out on the S2 today - so I assume that has now transferred.
I've also heard about the Versas moving on, with Streetlites likely for the Signature services. Will be glad to see the back of the Optares - been useless reliability wise.

They do look good the Metrocity, except having had the best part of 6 years with Optare products now I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. When they are working they are decent buses for passenger and driver alike - but the engines on the SRs have let them down badly, and the electrics/suspension on the Hybrids has caused problems in the past. MFY has had its cooling fan running constantly for a couple of years now and had black smoke enter the passenger compartment the once (couple of years ago) and had to be taken out of service immediately. MFV had to have a transplant engine from a Solo; MFZ and MFX are the best two. Wrights are far better, although I prefer the Volvo B7RLE/B8RLE chassis to the Streetlite; just more refined.

I've seen a Dennis Dart front bumper basically made out of newspaper on one of these guys buses. You could literally put your hand through it. It was used as some sort of filler.
There was actually a Solo with a load of duct tape all over one of the seat backs, wasn't there?
Anyway, my point is, maintenance and Diamond don't go hand in hand, so to call any of these buses unreliable isn't a fair statement.

It's called improvisation😂. To be honest I haven't seen a diamond dart broke down in ages, in fact the more recent buses are looking worse than those. 002 branded buses are destroyed.
Look how many companies have optare products, they surely must be doing something right making them. Haven't sampled diamonds Sr for ages.

I can see where you are coming from. The maintenance maybe hasn't helped the buses in that case; upon further reflection Johnsons' Optares are pretty good and Silverline's were as well actually. So perhaps I'm being a bit harsh on Optare.

Now most of the internal lights on them are a useless dim yellow variant and even those are failing. Looks a mess.

Todays allocations for the 3 and 42 seem to be Wessex liveried Streetlites with no destination blinds set. Luckily these are the only Sunday buses in Kidderminster so it's not as confusing as it could have been had there of been other buses running! :(

Maybe they are just being stored there, I've seen at least two advertised for sale in the trade press & not by Rotala. The picture was taken at Tividale.

Yes, all of the Preston Bus Hybrid's are still at Tividale. I'm told this is due to the leasing company not having enough room at the moment or something like that.

If practice is like it was 24-12 months ago because of its age the lid would be opened and cold water sprayed onto the engine and fans and rad to cool it down then put back into service. Not sorting out the problem. Now before people start saying this never happens, it did I saw it with my own eyes when walking past Church Road West Garage with another bus a few years ago.
Simons response to why they are moving buses out of Redditch was a little daft and Im sorry Simon it is. Redditch does need spare workable buses so they are not all over worked and under serviced in the garage as the pollution of some of the fleet is high. I am sure buses with red lights on the dashboard should not be in service at all.

Confusion in Evesham Road, Redditch this morning due to road works. The signs at the bus stops and details on the Diamond website say that today school buses will be allowed on Evesham Road before 9.30am. Unfortunately the people operating the road access barriers didn't seem to know about this. I saw one vehicle just before 8am - I think it was the 70S to Ridgeway School - being diverted off Evesham Road and down Yvonne Road. As a result, about 10 children waiting at the Crabbs Cross post office stop on Evesham Road were left behind.
20850 was broken down in Acocks Green on Westley Road by the bowling alley at 15:15 this afternoon, blocking half of the road, half on the pavement, half on the road, it was on the 36.

11522 (Volvo B12B/Plaxton Panther) has been operating in Redditch since at least the beginning of May, although it still appears to be allocated to Tividale. When I saw it at the beginning of May it was registered Y40 HMC but at the end of May I noticed it had been re-registered YU04 XFB - a return to its original registration.
11520 (Y20 HMC), another Panther, continues to operate in Redditch as well.

I boarded 20850 this afternoon at 15:15 in Acocks Green Village, on a 36 to Heartlands Hospital, the bus then drove up to Fox Hollies Road in Acocks Green, where I had to get of, because the driver apparentlly had no more fuel to carry on, another passenger waiting there trying to board was complaining because he'd apparently been waiting nearly 2 hours there for a 36.
A scruffy looking bus, with tatty handle bars partly purple where the paint has been peeling of and partly yellow.
Saw the two MX11 Streetlites driving down Alcester Road between Kings Heath & Maypole. Both NIS. It was at approximately 17:00.

247 is a nice run - plus you get the two beastly E300's on it - 30933 and 30945. (247 is Redditch to Evesham). The 82 isn't bad either, the Citaro's were great when they were the allocation, now it's given boring Streetlites.

The Church Rd garage was opened by Midland Red in July 1931. An overflow parking lot opened at Plymouth Rd in June 1978. Both passed to Midland Red West in Sep 1981 and First Midland Red in March 1999.
In January 2004 First Midland Red closed the Church Road depot and moved all RH operations to Plymouth Rd with maintenance taking place at Worcester or Kiddereminster. From 2005 maintenance was also carried out at Plymouth Rd.
Meanwhile First Midland Red sold the Church Rd garage to a property developer who leased it later in 2004 to Pete's Travel, trading as People's Express. People's Express closed the depot in June 2005.
Church Rd reopened again in February 2007 by Diamond Bus (during the Go-Ahead era). Depot passed from Go-Ahead to Rotala in March 2008 along with the rest of Diamond Bus.
In March 2013 Diamond bus tookover First Midland Red services in Redditch and Kidderminster along with the Plymouth Rd site and now operates from both sites.
20027 (YJ10 MFZ) Optare Solo in Signature livery was broken down and blocking 50% of the road at the junction of Headless Cross Drive and Coldfield Drive in Redditch this lunch time.

Looking at these pictures from today, there seems to be a distinct lack of the 65 plate Streetites on the 57/58 these days, with a WF Streetlite / Signature Solo & B7L appearing

20015 was a horrible bus today on the S2. Really struggled up hills and was extremely slow. It made a terrible screeching sound.

I quite like these Streetlites. I prefer the drive on these over the E200MMC. The seating position and the steering is a lot better on the Streetlites (DF). I always felt that the MMC position was too high. I've now also driven both the older and newer E200, and the MMC really is a big difference over the model before.

Yeah the 16 plates are better and faster. Annoyingly they're limited to 50mph though, but they get there quick! Only irritating thing with them is that as you move off, they jolt forwards. The 65 plates don't do this, but the counter to that is I find the 65 plates are quite juddery when braking. It's difficult to smoothly brake when you're stopping from around 20mph. The retarder can be quite abrupt when kicking in.
The older Streetlites are far more smoother. 30163 drives nice. 30167 & 30168 on the other hand, well I don't know which ones worse! (Probably 30168)

It seems to be mixed opinion's on the Streetlites, they were selling in decent numbers, but First seem to have switched from Streetlites to E200MMC's as have Arriva.
I suppose with 30168 being an ex Demo, it's took it's toll.

30168 was good up until a couple of months ago. 30167 has never been that good. The 65 plates when new were brilliant by now most of them are lacking power. As MW says they are hard to break smoothly due to the retarder. I'm not sure wether I prefer Streetlites or optare. Never been too keen on the Streetlites as it's hard to get a comfortable position, but when you do they're ok. Only driven an E200 a couple of times, hopefully on an ex Central one Wednesday all day so I'll see!
32214 was the accident damaged in Stratford, not sure what's happening with this.

Goodness calm down, I'm sure you know the SR's are terribly unreliable, they are from Redditch which is not a surprise to see them being slugs.
A 16 plate Streetlite would be a better option, they can go faster compared the SR's.

Also this morning - PO58 KPU, the newly acquired Volvo B7RLE/Optare Esteem, is on the 58 in Redditch. I couldn't see a fleet number anywhere on the outside of the vehicle.

The two Royales that are still going in black (30825/30826, more 30825) are looking horrendous now. 30825 has loads of dents and has no logos to say it's a Diamond bus. Why did Diamond stop repainting the Royales. It's a shame 30825/6 can't look as smart as Redditch's new Esteem.

I think that's the case without a side display.
It's always the case that new used acquisitions / transfers take priority for repainting i.e. all the influx of Euro 5 Solo's ex GHA / Regal Busways & others etc. The existing Diamond fleet then gets neglected, there are loads of buses with dented skirt panels / scrapes / long term missing / mismatched logo's etc. There are still buses with Blue Diamond & Green Diamond (DBNW) logo's

I haven't commented on the condition of Diamond vehicles before, but seeing 30404 today I felt I must say something. 30404 (YJ61 CHH) is an Optare Versa in Signature livery. I saw it twice today on the 70 service in Redditch. It looked a disgrace, really dirty and grubby with brown stains all along the side and low at the back as if there could be something amiss with the suspension.
32212's front display is still not working.

There is a bit of inter working- mainly in the afternoon
88/S11/S15 interwork between 9.30 and 15.00
Outside of those times there's a few buses that do some interwork. I'm fact there's only one all day bus on the 82.

It had X31 on the display when I saw it departing Ward End and going down the Alum Rock Road at about 12:30.
It departed a minute or 2 before NXWM 1867.
Perhaps it was put up by mistake and the driver maybe changed it shortly afterwards?

They are awful Buses. They do sometimes do the Signature routes I've noticed, but the Streetlites are better buses. Especially the 16 plates which sound like a washing machine on the S3 lol

These Volvos are far superior to the Streetlites, and they're 7-8 years older! I haven't seen any of the 30160-30164 batch in a week or so, so I'm guessing they've all gone to Tividale now.

Yes, I've seen a picture of 30503 as a recent arrival at Redditch earlier this week.

A visit to Redditch today provided 30501/3/4 all on the 58 with a Central Versa, and another on the 57. 30812 appeared just before I left at 1245 to operate the 70 - looks very smart with full Diamond logos. No sign of 30507 in service, but could see a Citaro in the depot from the Bus Station, and I can't find any photos of 507 with Diamond so
@MW was right about it not being in service. I suspect some will be used on the 50 tomorrow, at least I'm hoping they are ;)

The Citaro is 30019. The other (30030) is inside Church Road. I'm on the 50 tomorrow I think. I'd like to get 30812 but we shall see if it's available.

Yeah I see what you mean. The earlier ones have less power, bar 30167/168. 32217 is easily the best 65 plate one, in terms of acceleration.
But yeah, the Daimler ones can definitely take a beating and keep on going as opposed to the Cummins ones.

No the best of days for Redditch today as KU52RYK was broken down this morning outside The Alexandra Hospital and one of the 300xx DAF / Plaxtons was broken on Woodrow Drive early this afternoon. Guess the staff at Redditch are not too happy as the newish StreetLites have gone off lease and the new ones promised have gone elsewhere . . . . :-[

There is a consultation up for potential changes to the 55 and the 70 to make the services more commercially viable.

The proposal is for the 70 to Astwood Bank as now but on the return to Redditch divert to the Alexandra hospital and then go on to Redditch following the existing 55 route.
The 55 will then run the reverse of the above 70 route. Both services are reduced to hourly.

Mind this is also occurring right in front of ours eyes in the City Centre, some NX cross-city routes have routing in one direction which doesn't match the opposite direction. ::)

The Holloway Field removal was on the cards, around the time of the 2012 review, but didn't come to fruition.

That Mellor does a 50 (0806 from City I think) in the morning and then runs dead from Maypole to Coventry.
Before the 23rd February, that 0806 journey would be operated by a Solihull bus and then run dead from Maypole to Solihull to begin service on the S1.

More & more of their new buses are now taken on operating leases inc Strata's which are on year 7 leases.
3 of the new Streetlites broke down on their delivery runs from Wrightbus & didn't make it through Tividale depot gates under their own power.
I saw two Tividale Volvo B7RLE/ Plaxton Centro vehicles operating in Redditch today - 30502 (BX58 APF) and 30881 (BK10 MFY).

A bit of nostalgia in Redditch this morning as I travelled on 30856 (WX58 FSD) on route 70. This was one of the Volvo B7LRE/ Wright Eclipse Urban vehicles allocated to Redditch from new but transferred to Tividale in 2017.
Interestingly the ticket machine and the tracker showed it as 30857 which it certainly wasn't - that's the silver one with Monopoly adverts still allocated to Redditch.

When you log in on Ticketer machines, you select the vehicle (fleet number) yourself. The driver would have selected the depot first, and then you're shown all the allocated vehicles to that depot. 30856 will not have been listed as a Redditch vehicle, so the driver must have selected the closest number on the list which is obviously 30857.

This afternoon I followed 30897 (AE06 ZBR) (Dennis Dart SLF ex Central Buses) which was at the front of a queue of traffic on Coldfield Drive in Redditch. It couldn't manage more than 15mph although Coldfield Drive isn't particularly steep.

32214 is still in store, it was in Church Rd, Redditch it has recently been moved to Tividale, John's Lane (opp main depot) with all the other scrappers.
None of the ex Signature buses have left the company, they were surplus to requirement when Signature switched to Landflight, they were only 'VOR' some have been repainted in new Diamond Livery with 20015 now back at Redditch for TfWM 69 tender etc.

On Tony's Fleet Changes for July 2019 - 30011 (YJ07 JJO) VDL/Plaxton Centro is shown as now withdrawn. I haven't seen this vehicle for many months. Does anyone know if it has been off the road for a while?

32214 was off site immediately after the incident in Stratford in January 2018. Off site as in not in Redditch.

On paper it might have been at Redditch but the physical bus wasn't.
The 1st August Fleet Changes section of the website shows 30405 (YJ61 CHK) Optare Versa as a transfer from Redditch to Bolton. This morning it was working in Redditch so it looks as if the transfer hasn't happened (yet).
Reports on a Facebook group show that B9TL 40625 in new livery has moved from Bolton to Redditch. Presumably this is a replacement for Trident 40544, for the school working it did, as that is now parked up at Tividale I understand.
Citaro 30030 has moved the other way from Redditch to Bolton, and is already in base new brighter diamond livery

Apparently so. Does seem a bit strange to use something so new, but it has been mentioned that it will be used on the 247 to Evesham, which now has a school journey replacing the 301 which the Trident did.

I doubt if there is one per cent of their customers in Redditch who know there are different version - I had to look at photos before I knew what was being alluded to.
The October 2019 "Fleet Changes" section of the website shows 30897 (AE06 ZBR) Dennis Dart SLF/Alexander as a transfer from Redditch to Tividale.
It is still operating in Redditch. This afternoon it was on the 70.

Yeah, 20870 was alright. 20913 aka the snow mobile was better though! I remember driving it when it was minus 6 outside in snowy/icy conditions on the 82, and passengers were opening the windows because it was too hot onboard!
20884 had brilliant heating too. The one thing I can't fault on with Optares is the heating!
20869 was another good one. This one has a Merc engine, but it was very nice to drive and not slow. I believe 20869 operated the last ever S2, I had it for a few trips on that day.

20541/30638 are transfers as far as I'm aware, not certain on that though.

The 34 Birmingham- kings heath Was running 40+ minutes late. In fact I hoped to catch the 14:25 from kings heath and looking at the tracker it was only just leaving the markets at 14:20. Is the route a car park?

Don't know. Shouldn't be. It serves the back roads of Sparkbrook, Balsall Heath and Moseley so I don't see how.

As far as I'm aware they have no plans for coventry. I don't think they run any other services in Coventry. The 1 is the last Diamond service in Coventry. Also this is a re-terdered service as far as I know. The tenders for service don't always finish on the last week of April or October. It just depends on when the service was register as a terdered service to when the tender is to be renewed.

You're right. Diamond doesn't have any other services in Coventry anymore. It's pretty hard to make a new service in Coventry; all the main corridors are taken by NXC and Stagecoach. Coventry in itself isn't a attractive place; The IKEA there is shutting down in the summer.

@Winston your quite right Diamond still do have the less frequent 89 and also the 42. I forgot about thouse two services. I wonder how long they'll last though. I wouldn't be suplrised if NXC are planning to take the 42 over so that'll just leave the 89 with Diamond.

538-542 wore one of the Worcester brandings (I think it was the 31) and there was a couple of the Crusaders that wore the 30 branding and the "nurse" style branding. One of the pointers also was route branded for a Worcester service (think it was the 39).
538/539 went straight from Worcester to "Stourbridge Shuttle" branding with 540-542 in the "Yew Tree Connection"
I believe they had to be redone before starting in service in Worcester as they were new to diamond in white (I remember seeing them on the 126E/56), then were painted in one version of the Worcester route branding before going into their 31 branding.

Nope, the fleet number it reports as can easily be changed I believe, on a Ticketer one, whereas NX, it's more permanent.

Ticketer machines can also have permanent fleet numbers. The issue is, Diamonds machines are set up for the driver to sign in, then select the fleet number, and then duty number. Other operators such as First have their machines set up so that the fleet number selection menu does not appear at all, and you only enter the duty number.
It sounds as if either the Ticket Machine was in fact removed and placed into another vehicle and then the next driver left the fleet number as it was before and didn't change it, or somebody has simply selected the wrong fleet number on another machine.

Whilst it is easy to change it, it probably hasn't been done otherwise it'd be tracking correctly.
40626 looks to have made it self at home on the 247 service . If I remember correctly , the last double decker allocated to Redditch was used a lot on this service as it carried quite a few students at various time of the day .

The Centrad displays in the fleet should be replaced in the near future with Mobitec ones, which is likely why it hasn't been replaced, as it'll be changed soon anyway.

The vehicle has been sold. Therefore I would imagine the ticket machine fleet number hasn't been updated

I can guarantee it didn't actually operate it. It's more than likely just a Mellor tracking as the wrong thing, otherwise it'd end up as a single decker as soon as it left Bradford Place!

Unfortunately we are going to see this happen across the West Midlands and the rest of the country around that time, as Covid funding comes to an end. While there may be exceptions, it seems doubtful that other operators will step in to take any of them on commercially. The big question now is: how much will the county councils try to save through funding?
In the case of the 247, I imagine usage was affected several years ago when Stagecoach improved what are now X19 (Redditch - Alcester section) and X18 (Bidford - Evesham section).

Thats pretty good communication to passengers though. I've never seen potential changes outlined like that before.
I can only comment on the section I see but I'm not surprised regarding the 002.
It maybe out lined well online, how ever since they have not long sent out route maps to homes in the area it seems like a backwards step to then cut the services you have just promoted.

DD12 it was one of the 14 plate Gemini's as I was waiting for the 303 from Worcester to take me to work. The reason it wasn't tracking was because it didn't have a ticket machine fitted to it.

Dead mileage doesn't appear to be a concern for Diamond let's be honest, otherwise they'd run the 50 from Redditch and extend journeys there
Potential for some of the Stratford services to transfer to Stagecoach West and run the out of Banbury depot (personal wish, obviously)
Stagecoach have a garage In Stratford unless it's closed.

True - that is possible. FWIW I see that a variation for the X20 service registration has not yet appeared on the Vehicle Operator Licensing website.

Unless there is an amendment made to the vehicle operator licensing thing, then it'll probably be X20. There's a possibility that Google data has seen the curtailed route and just applied the old number to it. I haven't seen anything mentioned anywhere about it being renumbered back to 82.
30507 (BX58 AON) Plaxton Centro was operating on Evesham Road in Redditch this morning. Not sure which route it was on because the destination display wasn't working and, what I think was supposed to be an A4 sheet of paper showing the destination, was curled up on the dashboard.
This is being looked at.

I had to ask the question as I had already posted an article on my website about the X20 changes, which I've now taken down (as it's factually incorrect now).
I knew the 89 was being withdrawn, but there was no mention of the 87/88 services previously.
I suppose the big question now is who takes them over?
Maybe Stagecoach will operate the full X20 between Stratford and Coventry after all.
Or maybe this is why the 82 route number has started appearing on stops in Solihull again?

I notice in the latest "Fleet Changes" that 30897 has been withdrawn. I think this was the last Dennis Dart at Redditch and I think it had been the last one for over two years. Should we be celebrating the end of an era?

Probably would depend on whether they are euro 6 or not as well. If they aren't the centros might be better deployed on Redditch local routes.
These services require euro 6 vehicles as will all services in the West Midlands in just a few months. The centros are not euro 6 so will not be allocated to the routes (although they would fit).
Redditch do not normally allocate type specific vehicles to routes although the A15 & A16 will probably be mainly Solo SR as streetlites will mainly be allocated to service 50. 32128 is currently temporarily at Redditch so award yourself 1million bonus points if you see a VDL on the A15 or A16 lol

The Euro 6 requirement only currently applies to buses entering Birmingham City Centre and on Partnership routes as far as I'm aware. However it is definitely the intention that all buses entering or used in the West Midlands will meet Euro 6 requirements in the long term.
Incidentally I've just read a report commissioned in 2018 by Centro (as it was then) stating that all buses entering Wolves City Centre would be Euro 6 by 2020. Three years later and this is still not the case.

My understanding is that all new TfWM tenders require Euro 6 vehicles, whether they enter Birmingham City Centre or not.

Just an FYI in case anybody else wasn't sure about the Stagecoach Enviro 200s, it appears that a quantity of them or perhaps all of them have indeed been upgraded to Euro 6.

I understand a few routes that operate beyond the West Midlands boundary are excluded from Euro requirement in 1st May.

Yes, Graysons were doing them at the same time NXWM were having their upgrades done. I saw several of them there.

41/46 they were used at the start. They eventually stopped and started using euro 6 E400MMCs and Scanias
20015 this morning on the A16. Destination display isn't working and displaying Diamond Bus.
Presumably as they've changed the bus from last week when it was 20884.

I am in Redditch today and seen this vehicle several times, I have not witnessed this with this bus.
I don't use the buses very often so what I am about to describe my well be usual practise. I got on a service 12 from Astwood Bank to Redditch this morning. There were only 2 or 3 people on the bus and it was running on time. At the next stop an elderly person got on but she hadn't got her Concessionary Travel Pass ready. There didn't seem to be any good reason for this as she had been waiting at the stop and could have been prepared. She said it was in her bag but the driver just waved her onto the bus. I presume that the value of this journey was lost to the company.
Given the number of passengers on the bus I assume this service can't be financially viable so why would a driver not collect the fare. After all, if the service is scrapped, he could loose his job.

@DMCL as a former bus worker, I would personally commend the driver for the way in which he has shown reasonable discretion allowing an elderly passenger to sit down without showing her pass.

Given that she is elderly, it is bitterly cold today and that she may not have felt comfortable searching through her bag in public, I don't see this as unreasonable. I'd be more concerned if the driver had made her feel even more uncomfortable by insisting she stand on the platform and search her bag for it. When i worked on the buses, it was common practice not to ask clearly elderly passengers to find their passes if they hadn't got them to hand.
I'm certain that the few pounds that the fare would have cost (even though she states she had a concessionary pass) is going to have any tangible impact on the financial viability of the service. I, for one, would be terribly grateful to the driver if this was my elderly mother or grandmother.

That's now how the world works. Because of that driver, the Conc pass wasn't recorded. How many others aren't being recorded? How much revenue is being lost on these already marginal services.
Customer service is out of the window if the service is loss making.

How do we know if the pass or others wasn't/haven't been recorded? Only the driver will know if they did or didn't.
Because of that driver, this passenger will go home with a positive opinion of the driver and company. Customer service isn't out of the window if the service is loss making - customer service levels should be at their optimum levels whether it's a loss making or profitable service.

Yes you can scan manually on Ticketer machines however this is only supposed to be used when there is a fault with the card or similar.
I believe too many manual entries can attract the attention of the local authority.
We don't know if in this case it was scanned manually.

I was about to ask if they have a manual override - thanks to those that have clarified this.
Even in the days of non-computerised ticket machines (Setrights/Gibsons etc) when we had to manually record them, if there were perceived abnormal patterns of concessionary passes recorded then it would still attract attention.
My opinion still stands - where the driver can provide a reason where the pass wasn't scanned/presented/requested from the passenger, I would always accept this account as reasonable.

I had the pleasure of riding on 30822 (BX09 SJO) Plaxton Centro from Astwood Bank to Redditch this morning. The interior still looked like the days when it was part of the Royale Black Diamond fleet with black leather seats, panelled timber-style vinyl flooring and even posters advertising the Royale Black Diamond service. Will be a sad day when these are all withdrawn. Best vehicles in the fleet by a mile. 30822 has always been a good one too.
Travelled on similar 30825 earlier today, as DMCL said , this batch of vehicles are still working hard and still in a tidy condition ,the bus also went well so apart from the customary rattles , a decent bus.
According to bustimes, apparently BU08 DCE is back on the track. Can anyone confirm this?

That's a shame, the good folk of Alvechurch will soon be without any buses at all , good job they have a decent rail service. I caught this service from Redditch a couple of weeks back , there were 8 of us aboard on departure and 2 of us actually travelled through to Bromsgrove. :huh: Mind you , getting through the various estate roads were quite a challenge as driver had a E200 instead of the usual Solo.On arrival at Bromsgrove I congratulated the driver on his skills and asked if a Solo gave better manoeuvrability ? He smiled , pointed and said those are even better - a Mercs/Mellor. :wink: :cheesy:

The 182/183 are operated by Kidderminster I think. Think they only have 1 solo (20058), the mellor is normally used on the Bewdley shuttle during the week except on Saturdays when its put on the 9A/9C. I think they might have moved over when Redditch gained extra Johnsons services.
Likewise I don't think Redditch Garage have any E200s anymore.
I also think the 247A to Alcester via Redditch on school days is open to public use, so its not completely unserved.

247A is one service a day on school days though, so keep in mind it is pretty inconvenient. It is open to the general public but from my experience the double deckers are usually full on the way back. (never been on the way there)

Both 182 and 183 run one journey in each direction a day, WCC have probably decided it's not worth funding this service, preferring to throw money at DRT schemes instead.

It used to have double deckers and there would be standees so single deckers are just stupid.

Redditch currently has less double deckers, as 40837 went on loan to DBNW & hasn't returned, its gone to Burton instead.
