Reducing the frequency was going to make things worse. Not only that but the main residents that use the service are from fatherless barn where the 13 coincidentally runs at exactly the same time. The 142 did work in my opinion on a 30 min frequency. It lasted long enough( 5 years!!)??

And don't forget the goodness knows how many years that section was covered by the 247/248.

As the route was cut down and frequencies amended passengers must have found alternative ways to travel.

I would also suggest that as frequencies have increased on other nearby routes this has been a factor too. For example the only NX bus on a Sunday round Hasbury used to be the 247/248 and later the 142. Now there is the Diamond 4H running every half hour.

And with four trains an hour how many non-pass holders would use it?

Years ago, the 192 did use to run between Kidderminster and Birmingham, but Diamond withdrew it as it wasn't commercially viable. I understand that Centro (at the time) wouldn't subsidise the route as there were already alternative services between Birmingham and Halesowen, as well as the train of course.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Back in the good old days the 192 used to be the X92 Birmingham - Kidderminster - Ludlow - Hereford before it was chopped into pieces.

I believe the reason for curtailing the full route was new EU legislation in the 1990s that would have required the buses used to be fitted with tachographs because of the distance. I also think the same reason applied to the 144 terminating in Worcester instead of Malvern where it had previously run to. Both MRW routes of course.

The 192 actually continued to run to Hereford until the early 2000's when it was reduced to running to Kidderminster only with some peak journeys continuing to Cleobury Mortimer.

At one point around 2000 First ran a 30 minute frequency between Kidderminster and Birmingham with the X93

Does make you wonder if it is worth tendering the 142 or just getting rid of it.
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

I wander what rout it will take between Perry Barr and Erdington? Will it go via the 11 route?

I have to agree unfortunately. From Fatherless Barn to Halesowen the route is covered adequately by the 13, and those needing Stourbridge it is only a short walk to the much more frequent 9.

From the Wynall to Stourbridge section the 276 covers the majority more frequently and so only Oldnall Road is uncovered which I believe there is only 2 or 3 stops max.

Perhaps it should be reduced to Peak only?
